Maybe Shroudedkit had given up in the moment, when Thundergleam so gently rejected his request for celestial knowledge. He accepted it at the time with only the vow that he would be 'chosen' like her, and he would show her. But as the time came to pass, erring closer and closer to his apprentice ceremony, Shroudedkit became restless and nervous. He knew not whether he was a gift or a curse upon the Clans - but he knew for sure, either way, an average warrior as a mentor would not unearth his glory.

Thundergleam had been in ThunderClan long enough, right? She was doing warrior things, and quickly became accustomed to their ways. Who says she can't mentor an apprentice soon, when Shroudedkit is ready? He'd never heard of any rules. Thusly, Howlingstar is sought out in camp by the orange and white kitten, who approaches with a high tail and determined gaze. He is not the type to beat around the bush - when he knows what he wants, he will see to it that he gets it.

Shroudedkit grabs her attention by clearing his throat, making his presence known. It is more than he gave Thundergleam when he demanded that she teach her how to read omens and discover the meaning behind his eclipsed birth. Howlingstar is the leader; he knew better than to forget his manners, whatever little he retained from his mostly absent parents. When Howlingstar pays him mind, he begins his request.

"I want Thundergleam to be my mentor." Less of a request, and more of a decision made that he would stick by. There is no other warrior that could answer his prayers, and no other apprentice would be so attuned to her gifts as himself. "She will teach me how to use my gift, just like she uses hers." What gift, one may ask? The kitten is painfully average and secluded; there seems nothing extraordinary about him besides his aloof nature. Shroudedkit doesn't quite know himself; that is precisely why he seeks out the white-furred warrior. But.. for now, that is not for others to know. He would have them know of his special circumstances, even if it is coated in lies.

I want Thundergleam to be my mentor.

The words come off as more of a statement than a question. It’s even more blunt than Fadingkit had dared to be, and for a moment Howlingstar is left staring at the kit in stunned silence. Thundergleam has certainly proven herself to be popular with the clan’s youth, that’s for sure. She’s now been requested by two kits!

Her eyes narrow slightly and she tips her chin up. This was more excusable when Fadingkit had been younger, but Shroudedkit is nearly six moons. She can’t help but be taken back by the disrespect of such a demand. “Shroudedkit,” She begins calmly, patiently. “Assigning a mentor is a decision that requires careful consideration. Consideration of what’s best for you, and therefore what is best for the clan. Thundergleam herself is still learning our ways and needs more time to prove herself.” The young trainee is due for her warrior ceremony very soon, but even then she is far too inexperienced to be trusted with an apprentice just yet. “Like every kit that’s been apprenticed before you, you must trust in my decision.” Naturally, like she always is when talking to kits, she is compassionate with her words, but the firmness is there. It is clear she expects there to be no argument. Though, to lessen the blow of what must be a massive disappointment, and flicks the kit’s shoulder with her tail and smiles. “Chin up, little one, and be open-minded. Your mentor will have your best interests at heart.”

[ ༻ ☼ ༺ ] Shroudedkit's words made Fadingkit pause in her spot before turning to look at her brother and Howlingstar, trying to hide the shock and... disappointment to hear that she wasn't the only one who wished to have Thundergleam as her mentor, but his reasoning was because he had 'gifts' and she tilted her head in confusion, since when? No, she quickly shook her head as she slowly approached wondering what their leader would say before the firm answer came from Howlingstar and a slight relief of a sigh parted from her lips.

"Have you decided on our mentors yet?" she piped curiously as she made her presence know, aiming to brush her fur against Shroudedkit, she won't make it obvious that it bugged her over her brother wanting to be trained by the strange molly himself, but she won't allow that to be known, besides, Fadingkit had asked first and so if anything were to happen she should be the one to get Thundergleam as her mentor, not because of some silly reason, but because Fadingkit liked Thundergleam because she was nice, strange but nice, and Fadingkit was also strange but nice, so... that was her small reason why she believed Thundergleam should be her mentor, but those thoughts were pushed back as she smiled at the two.
