Perhaps once a symptom of her fawning response after her loss, Junipermask now keeps up a fake persona of kindness and empathy. Deep down, truly, she cannot find the will to care for anyone but herself. Her entire self is essentially a lie. In an instance, if need be, she would turn on anyone she knows. It might seem cruel, but it is all she can do to protect herself from experiencing another loss. There is a sort of emptiness in her eyes that she carries everyday, a reflection of her true self that she so desperately tries to hide. To love is to hurt, and so, she can really only love herself, the only person she can trust to never leave.

    She never fully exposes her stomach. Not in battle, not around her clanmates, not even when she sleeps. This a lesson she never forgot.

    Junipermask, originally Juniper, was born alongside her sister Baneberry in the Marsh group. She was always eager to fight compared to her meek sister, constantly seeking attention and taking any opportunity to show off. Yet, the two remained close friends, if not for some bickering here and there. She had only just begun to train when the conflict between the two groups truly arose- Juniper was itching to be her best in case she ever met face to face with a pine group cat. However, that day would come sooner than expected during a solo hunt.

    Juniper ran into a young tom from the pine group, in training just like her, and she didn't hesitate to tackle him to the ground and threaten his life. A bit older and perhaps a bit wiser, he took the opportunity and raked her across the stomach, just hard enough to send her off of him. Instead of anger from him she was met with amusement, and the tom even offered to be training partners. His name was Dove, and even being born to kittypets, he was just as determined as Juniper to be a strong fighter. With a bruised ego and a bit impressed by his battle prowess, despite everything she had ever known, she accepted. Soon enough she was spending most of her days with him, living her life in the group distantly and in quiet opposition.

    When the Great Battle came Juniper searched desperately for Dove. She had been waiting her entire life for this moment but now could only feel dread. Weaving through the crowd of writhing cats she would spot him: tangled in battle with her very own sister. Without thinking, she ran over and grabbed Baneberry by the scruff, pulling her off and throwing her aside. Baneberry would meet her fate quickly when she collided with a tree. Almost not hearing the aching yowls of her sister, Juniper tried to help Dove up, but she had been too late. He succumbed to his battle wounds not so long after. One reckless decision had cost her the lives of her two closest friends, and in the heat of the battle, only she would know. Only she would live with this.

    Juniper went to Riverclan and continued her training as a quiet apprentice, forever changed by the battle. She eventually earned her warrior name: Junipermask- not just for the band around her eyes, but for the metaphorical mask she wears, hiding herself from her clanmates, too afraid to get close to anyone.
