  • It's hard to traverse the territory and not feel ghosts tracing alongside, shifting the reeds and the cattails and pretending they are wind. Instead of ghouls she takes company in her clan-mates... who wander through the paths with quiet paws and attentive eyes. The air smells damp... heavy.... foretelling a coming storm.. or maybe just a drizzle. It seems the moment she notices it that the clouds grow eager to share and soon, it's drizzling...

Her nose scrunches up as a droplet lands on it, encouraging a small sneeze before she turns to glance at shades of sunset, "Well... good thing we have... a penchant for... being wet, huh?" The rain must bother those clans that do not embrace the river, who avoid splashing or soaking at all costs. What an oddity.... though she supposes many of her clan-mates would agree that her weird interest in climbing is bizarre as well.

The rain patters on, soaking into the dry earth like it has been deprived of water for months... entire seasons... "Yanno... I caught a bird... yesterday that-" She doesn't even get halfway through her story before the slick floor slides unexpectedly beneath her toes. The lynx point gives a startled gasp, slipping into the mud in a graceless fashion that stains pale fur instantly.

She lays there, stunned and staring up at the rainclouds for a few moments...

You've got to be kidding me...

"Rain is different than the river... But if each rainfall was like this, I wouldn't mind it." her tone holds amusement instead of the harshness it normally does, blade softened in the presence of her leader. It has seemed like moons since they have been able to talk. Desperately and quite selfishly, Salmonshade prays that it never ends, holding on to the moment with claws. Please, don't forget about me. Eyelids flutter shut for a brief moment and she takes a deep breath to preserve the moment, memorizing the scent of rain as it comes down in a soft embrace over the two of them. Everything is perfect and right where it needs to be.

Her eyes open once more when Lichenstar begins to speak again. Y'know, I caught a bird yesterday- Lichenstar is abruptly cut off as she squelches right into a patch of particularly muddy-mud, slamming straight in to the ground. She stares for just a second, hypothetical eyebrows raised in surprise. She's silent, but her voice starts off as a snicker until it grows in to a chuckle and then a full-blown laugh, the chocolate-pelted tortie taking a step back to try to calm herself. The laughter turns in to a silent fit of snorts and heaving sides as tears prick her eyes, having to hold a paw up to her mouth to stifle it.

Finally, shes able to collect herself just enough to speak. "Do- Do you want help up?" she extends the olive branch of peace as she approaches closer, silent giggles still heaving her sides as she takes one step too close and she too hits the same patch of mud. Her front paws slip straight out in front of her as she hits the ground on her stomach with a slight oomph. Mud is caked on the bottom-side of her, makes her chest fur and her belly fur feel heavy with it...

But she laughs. She laughs, still, because its nothing more than a silly situation to be in with her... friend, with someone whose company she enjoys, with someone who brings out a side that she could have sworn she had buried a long time ago with her mother even if it had been moons since their last talk. She feels free of responsibility, burdens as she giggles to herself. Everything is perfect and right where it needs to be. "Looks like the river will be our next stop...?" she manages out.

Splashdance is not with the duo on their solo walk. Thank the stars, maybe, because tagging along with a couple who seem way more invested in each other than where their paws land does not seem like fun. (They kind of remind her of her mothers, in a way - if her mothers were any bit reserved or quiet.) Instead, she's measures away, following the scent of a frog who simply wanted to enjoy the new rains. Despite the muddy ground becoming more apparent, she finds the little beast and catches it with ease - just in time to hear the sharp gasp of not one, but two cats.

She pads through some undergrowth to see her leader and Salmonshade, each caked with mud. Splashdance flexes her toes on the path beneath them, wondering if there is some otherworldly thing controlling them - allowing her to stand where they had slipped. Maybe the stars give them each blessings in their blood - that ShadowClan cats may tread murky waters whilst RiverClan has ease in swimming in them. Maybe she has both, to a middling degree.

"I dunno..." she perks up finally, dropping her prey by her paws. "If you stand in the rain long enough, you might just get clean that way?" Maybe not Salmonshade, who's stomach and chest would be unbothered by the sky's shower.

One of the things he'd always adored about the wetland was its unpredictability- yeah, sometimes it was dangerous, but more often than that it was fun. Thankfully, today brought on far more of the latter- he was not immune to the laughter that leapt from Salmonshade's mouth as Lichenstr went slipping to the ground. Honestly, he didn't think he'd ever heard Salmonshade really laugh like that- maybe that was why he didn't worry a jot for Lichenstar's wellbeing.

The rain tumbled down, a fairly-gently shower. If they weren't Riverclanners, maybe he'd agree with Splashdance- but it was intrinsically RiverClan to fly into the water to solve any problem. Or, at least... it was intrinsically Ferngill.

Something was missing, though- he fet an urge to join, and with a shout of joy he slid himself into the depths of the churning ground. Lying supine, Ferngill cast a humoured eye of green to Lichenstar- "Nah... I think it's a good excuse for a swim!" he cheered. Oh, and he'd find anything with that solution! "What a shame, I'll have to join you..."
