border NOWHERE NEAR READY ✦ skyclan dawn patrol

As soon as she'd gotten her group together, she'd set them off for the RiverClan border. Dreary days hang threateningly on the swelling riverbank as they draw near in the rosiness of late dawn, a thin silvery sheen of mist rising from the roiling water. It's foamy and much higher than is typical, lapping over what was once dry ground with a vengeance. Doeblaze waves her tail for her group to halt and begin walking the border, calling over the subdued roar of the water, " Be careful, the water's high. Must be all that rain we've been getting. "

" How has the rain been interfering with your tracking? " she prompts @cloudypaw~ with a nudge, a light breeze ruffling the fur along her back she'd just patted down back at camp. A pang of nostalgia hits her—they'd toured this border the day after she'd received her apprentice, though it had been the simmering heat of greenleaf that threatened them then, rather than autumn rains. Damn, the river really is high ... it's a wonder the Sandy Ravine hasn't flooded, at this rate. Her jade-pale eye scrutinizes the sloshing banks critically, trying to guess how much higher it's gotten since last time she visited this border.

" Hello! " she calls across the river, raising her voice to be heard over the tumult. Squinting into the faint mist, she tries to parse if anyone approaches through the reeds and the spray.

Smoldering gaze caught upon the higher waters of the stream, like rosy-fingered dawn seeped into rapids itself, sloshing it about and dragging it upwards to kiss at the sky. From the rumbling river arose a thin mist, a mystique that did not beguile Chrysaliswing. Ears flicked as they caught upon the roiling song of the seas, though it was the one realm in which he held no mastery over (though he did hold a begrudging respect for the fish-eaters that braved the realm of swimming). He of the skies hardly concerned himself with the basal means of the water, after all. "Let's hope that water doesn't flood over on our side." Chrysaliswing grumbled mostly to himself, and the river gurgled in response as though florid edges attempted to rebutt, of which the chimaeric tomcat humored none of it. Is it truly leaf-fall that caused this? The chimaera mused to himself as his tail flicked behind him, feathery serpent of a thing that seemed to be the only indication of a life he still held. Sharpened claws dug into the soft sand of the streambank as he awaited the Riverclan cats, as the foredawn of conflict always brimmed at the front of him, like he expected all things to end in blood and sweat and whatnot. They would not fight, surely, but he had been so hung up on Thunderclan's hostilities. It was better to be safe than sorry, and better to be the attacker than the defender. One thing was for sure: he could not wait to get away from Riverclan's border.

The Beech Copse is a soggy-pawed trek from the SkyClan border, but even in their weakest hour, RiverClan must be aware of what goes on at their borders. Iciclefang picks her way carefully through the wetlands, her blue eyes narrow as she guides her apprentice through the waterlogged turf. Reeds smack wetly against her tortoiseshell pelt; mud sucks at every paw she places onto the earth. "We're nowhere near the bank, yet the river tries to pull us in," she murmurs to Pinepaw. "Watch your step. Be very, very careful here."

Through the morning mists, a shaggy-pelted figure becomes apparent. Bobbie, Iciclefang thinks, then hastily corrects herself. Doeblaze. The tawny she-cat had gone on the journey to the mountains; she'll not forget the white-flecked warrior's courage in a hurry, even all these moons later.

Iciclefang flicks her tail against Pinepaw's shoulder. "That's Doeblaze. You must have seen her at Gatherings before." Her voice is low, too low to be heard by the opposing Clan cats. "She journeyed with me, all those moons ago." She does not recognize the apprentice at her side, nor the mostly-black tomcat who stalks the shore beside her, but Iciclefang nods a careful greeting their direction all the same.

"Hello, SkyClan. I hope you've been faring well." Despite her drenched patrol's questionable condition, she gives no hint RiverClan is not at their best.

STILL DON'T KNOW MY NAME

it is a lot harder to track in the rain. to track movements, track scents, to track anything. his nose twitches but finds little but the scent that the trees give off due to the influx of water. his ears twitch as he follows after his mother, paws steady and eyes only moving to the other side of the... mess they call a river. it's so high that it's nearly spilled over. he can only hope it doesn't make it's way over here. he does not want to have to deal with getting wet all the time. he doesn't like being wet. maybe this is why he is not a riverclanner.

"h-hello. uh, as well as we c-can, you know? hope the same to you all."

it never hurts to be neighborly, does it?
