†—— the she-kit perches on top of the stump that covers the elders' den; it is not her preferred perch, being neither the highest nor housing the best cats, but it will do. she doesn't particularly like the elders, smelling of mouse-bile and dry mud and old, always trying to coax the kits in to tell them some useless story about "the past". in ghostkit's opinion, she doesn't give a flying frog about the past and the stupid stories. they don't involve her, just a bunch of dead cats with dumb names who make dumb decisions ghostkit would never make. still, she has avoided them, to her (relative) happiness, and now she sits, all spiky fur and spindly limbs, on its highest point to watch the camp.

she loves to do this, or she thinks she loves it—ghostkit has only a vague concept of what exactly "love" is. she knows it's how granitepelt and starlingheart feel about each other, and that's really it. it must be powerful to make her mama, who has a lot of power and does a lot of important things, stay with her father, who is .... lesser, though she sees him little. she likes to watch, then, her little ears poking forward and dark eyes wide with interest. sometimes she sees cats together, or hears what they say, and she tries to remember it all for next time. she's learning a lot, including perhaps some things she shouldn't have.

"flintkit!" she yells to catch a familiar pelt's attention, staring at him once she does. ghostkit lowers her voice to more of a conspiratorial half-whisper, mewing discreetly, "come over here. i just heard the craziest thing."
