border one last try 〰 skyclan dusk patrol

They can't help but cast Crowsight a glance the further they tread towards the border, aware of just how poorly the last time they'd patrolled with him at this border had gone. He was quick to use his tongue and not half so adept at using it not to fan the flames of any situation. They're not certain they think it intentional but it is still a source of strain they must account for as a leader of this patrol. Edenberry is just relieved that Figfeather isn't with them... or Silversmoke for that matter, given how they'd both contributed to making tensions worse. What was the point in a few extra feet of hunting...? Especially stolen from a clan that could very well war with them at any moment. Orangestar's criticism rattles around between their ears- Why not from the unclaimed lands instead?

They are shaken from their frustrated musing by the sudden wall of stench that marks the border... They've been meticulous since the attempt at territory theft then? "Alright, we'll make this quick," they promise their patrol-mates with a reassuring smile. "I know it's getting late... your nests probably call to you." And in truth, so did theirs... if only to have the space to be alone.

"I'm going to mark that trunk over there..." They wander off to do as they've said with ears sat at attention for any approaching ThunderClanners.

⊱⊰ The girl would have to be both blind and deaf to not notice the tension that lies between SkyClan and ThunderClan. Burnstorm may not be her father, but his shifting moods are easy enough to catch onto—and stars, has he been in a funk lately. He has littermates who chose to live in SkyClan, she thinks, so it's reasonable that he's mad at them for it. So while the lilac-furred apprentice doesn't really think badly of SkyClan, she still feels vaguely uncomfortable as she approaches the border alongside her mentor. She shouldn't be too worried, she thinks… Lovelight tends to do most of the talking for her at the clan's borders, and the tortoiseshell warrior is friendly enough for the both of them. But still, she thinks about Skyclaw and his endless raging against kittypets, and she can't help but to think of what he'd done to Gentlestorm every time she looks into the seemingly endless forest of pine trees.

List in thought, the girl doesn't recognize the obstacle in her way until she trips over it, crashing forward into a slump of fallen leaves. She's quick to pull herself back to her paws though, not bothering to shake the leaves from her pelt as she spots the SkyClan patrol across the border. Her graceless stumble through the undergrowth is sure to draw the attention of the patrolling cats, and Hopepaw feels a spark of embarrassment rush through her at the thought. It's getting late, though, so hopefully they're all too tired to notice, or maybe it's just too dark for them to have seen her tumble.

In an attempt to make herself feel a bit better, Hopepaw looks to the patrol around her with a slight frown. "SkyClan climbs trees a lot, don't they? Does that mean… they're good at hunting birds and squirrels?"

〕When Stormywing had reported of Skyclanners trying to push their scent markers further than the border, it had been a shock to her. It didn't seem like an order Orangestar would give. She had considered leading a patrol to demand why they had tried to push their territory, but Stormywing's patrol had chased the Skyclanners out, and nothing had come of it since. Now if it were to happen again, Orangestar would have some answering to do.

Part of her had hoped to see the other leader this evening on their border patrol, but when she had seen her at the gathering, her belly had been round with kits. Surely Dawnglare and Fireflyglow wouldn't allow her out and about this late if the kits hadn't come yet. She could smell the other clan's patrol coming before they emerged from the undergrowth. Thunderclan's borders had been well marked since the incident, Roeflame had ensured that. She had advised her deputy to add an extra warrior to this border for the time being, just as a precaution. The last thing she wanted to do was fight Skyclan, especially over something as silly as extending borders. But the less territory they had meant less prey for her clan in the coming cold months, and that was something that she wouldn't risk.

The Skyclanners that approached the border were not ones that she knew well, but she had seen them before. She met them with a neutral gaze, offering them a head dip in greeting. "Good evening." She would call from the tree that she was currently marking. "How is Skyclan faring?" Normally she would converse a little more, but it was getting late and everyone seemed to be ready to return to their own camps.

  • a longhaired red tabby with low white and green eyes. flamewhisker's fur is a vibrant hue of red, riddled with thick classic tabby markings. her fur is medium in length, and she has a large, feathery tail. her chest, belly, tail tip, and her paws are dipped white. flamewhisker's eyes are a dark, deep shade of green. her shoulder has a large scar on it from a fight with a dog. she also has a shredded ear from a disagreement with a loner during her time alone before joining thunderclan. on particularly cold days, or sometimes before a major weather change, she will walk with a slight limp from her shoulder injury.

Lionpaw's relationship with ThunderClan is a complicated one; he sometimes wishes that he could get out of patrolling the borders with the oak-dwelling clan altogether, but he knows that he can't avoid their neighbors forever. The cat who had attacked him for accidentally trespassing—his murderer of a half-brother—is gone forever now and a new era has dawned upon ThunderClan. Hopefully the two clans could move forward in peace ( save for the border scuffle that Figfeather, Daisypaw, and Silversmoke had engaged in recently ).

The chocolate torbie point nods to Edenberry as they instruct the patrol to mark quickly. Lionpaw is quite tired but he of course took patrolling seriously and thus tried to keep himself as alert as possible; anything could happen, even late at night.

The appearance of the ThunderClan patrol grabs the apprentice's attention, his focus tearing away from the tree he was marking at the moment to fix upon Flamestar herself along with some of her warriors. Meeting a leader in the flesh was always nerve-wracking for Lionpaw, so he doesn't bring himself to utter a word. He offers a respectful dip of his head to the ThunderClan leader instead, glancing at his mentor after to see if he would say or do anything.

"Pffft, they might be good at climbing, but there's no way that they're better than me!" She boasted loudly in reply to Hopepaw's question, bounding forward to stand at her friend's shoulder. "Right, mom?" Squirrelpaw grinned cheekily at Flamestar, awaiting confirmation that she was, in fact, the best climber in all the clans (exceeeeept maybe Stormywing, she'd begrudgingly admit). It was in her blood, after all. If Flycatcher could climb the Great Sycamore, then one day so would she!

The blue torbie pranced energetically alongside the rest of her patrol, occasionally pausing to actually do her job and mark the odd plant. But mostly, her attention drifted to the forest around them. She was noticing now how quickly the trees were changing color, and the prey that usually filled the air with chatter had grown quiet. It was weird, and she didn't like it. This would be her first leaf-fall, and as far as she was concerned, they could quickly move along back to newleaf. Maybe by then, her scars would have healed…

A twig snapping brought her focus back to the group, her emerald green gaze darting around the brush. It wasn't more than a second or two before a Skyclan patrol emerged, and like her mother she didn't really recognize any of them. She skipped forward to brush against Flamestar's fiery pelt, her bubbling curiosity threatening to spill over. Squirrelpaw knew well enough about the border skirmish they'd had only weeks ago, and couldn't deny that she found the tension in the air electrifying. While her mother carried out the idle pleasantries, her eyes fell to the mottled figure of Lionpaw. She cast him a warm grin, dazzled by the intensity of his expression. "Wow, you have really pretty eyes!" She exclaimed brightly, though she remained firmly pressed into her mother's side. "My name's Squirrelpaw, what's yours?"

With the chocolate torbie point's focus being primarily tethered to the ThunderClan leader herself, he doesn't expect any other members of the opposing patrol to address him. The cheery greeting from the paler torbie catches Lionpaw off-guard, causing his azure gaze to flick to hers in surprise. Did she just... compliment his eyes? Lionpaw blinks them, as if suddenly aware of their existence. They were like his father's, he's been told.

The quiet-mannered trainee stammers in response, warmth searing his ears, "Er, uhm, thanks." You too he dares not say. Not that it was a crime to randomly compliment a cat from another clan; maybe it was just ThunderClan that he felt awkward around, like his past run-in with Skyclaw and the recent territory issues meant that he could never be friendly with them.

Squirrelpaw, she introduces herself. Funny; as much as they enjoyed eating squirrels, they had never known someone with that name before. A few moments pass before the tom realizes that it is his turn to speak, "Oh. Lionpaw." The chocolate torbie points his head to glance at the dark-swathed male flanking him. "Crowsight's my mentor." Was Flamestar her mentor? Or perhaps even her kin? She was pressing awfully close to the fiery-cloaked leader.

The bright smile on her face only grew exponentially at Lionpaw's reaction to her compliment. She giggled softly at the surprised expression on his face, though it wasn't meant to be teasing. "You're welcome," she returned warmly. He seemed to get flustered, stumbling over a reply that was painfully short. But she didn't think he seemed offended or outraged, so she took it as a sign to keep going. Lionpaw, he said his name was. It was a fitting name for someone who seemed to exude a quiet strength.

The pale torbie managed to pry herself away from her mother's side when she noticed his attention seemed intently locked on them. He gestured to his own mentor, the dark tom who was apparently named Crowsight, and understanding dawned on her. "Oh, well, my mentor is Lightflower. She's over there," The girl pointed to the pale silver warrior with her tail, glancing back up at Flamestar beside her. "This is my mom!" She didn't bother introducing their leader; it was clear by the weight of the other apprentice's gaze that he knew who she was.

"Are you good at climbing too, Lionpaw? We were just talking about how I'm definitely the best climber in the whole forest!" Her words, while true in her own mind, were spoken with an obvious tone of playfulness. She wasn't quite so vain as to think these Skyclanners would agree that she was better than them at anything. However, since it had been the topic of discussion just before they'd run into each other, she found herself curious. There weren't many others in Thunderclan who were good at or interested in scaling trees, it might be nice to know someone her age who liked it as much as she did.
