Blue met green as Peonypaw stood still, not letting even the quickest of winds shift the position of his long ears as he waited for his leader to come within earshot. He offered a respectful dip of his head, and pretended his stomach didn't want to flip out of nervousness. Not the bad kind- the good kind that was born out of excitement and admiration rather than fear. Perhaps Sootstar would not manage to give him time of day, would push past him and back into the camp so she could take care of something urgent, and he would understand.
But he had to try.
"If you have the time," he started, "I was wondering if you could help me perfect something within the tunnels? It's not that Rattleheart hasn't been teaching me, but I thought it would be useful if I learned from others' experiences, too." Yours, especially, the words stuck to the back of his throat. What honor would it be, to get Sootstar herself to assess how he had been doing so far, and iron out any kinks that might have formed?
