camp PERSERVERANCE - coming out

Agatepaw took a deep breath in, staring at his parents in front of him. Mudfern and Shadenight looked at him expectantly, albeit with worry in their eyes. They knew about the falling out, they knew he had been struggling, and now they would know about… this.

"Please don't be mad," he whispered softly, paws trembling. "I… I love you, you're my family, but… I don't wanna be your daughter anymore. Not… not that I don't wanna be your kit anymore, I just… I just… and… y'know… I…"

He stumbled over his words, trying to convey his feelings so desperately and yet not being sure how to articulate it. His breathing becomes rapid, his heartbeat becomes rapid, and then…

"Agatepaw," Mudfern began softly, looking at him with a mother's loving eyes. "Do you want to be our son?"

"Yes," he responded, throat dry. "I do. I want to be your son… I don't wanna be she or her or a daughter or a sister, I want to be… he and him and a son and a brother!"

"Shh, shh, it's okay. You can be our son, okay? I promise. We want you to be happy," Mudfern gently purred, stepping closer. "Right, Shadenight?"

Her mate nodded in response. "Yeah. Be yourself, kiddo. Be happy." Shadenight also stepped closer, and the two pressed against their son both in an act of comfort and to protect him from the chilly air.

It wasn't until others approached that Agatepaw realized he had been a bit loud, and they were still in camp.

Vulturesong does not care frankly. Even though Agatepaw had been rather loud about it and everyone within camp received the news, she didn't see why she had to say anything. Was she supposed to apologize for overhearing? That was foolish and she would hiss at the trio of buffoons for deciding camp was the most adequate place, as if everyone in camp was supposed to leave or remain silent. In all honesty she did not see why Agatepaw wanting to be a he was something the tom should be so nervous about. However, that was all she would entertain considering it was a waste of time to ponder why the apprentice would be so nervous. It was his decision and that was all there was to it.

All the molly does is huff as she pads further away from the family, not wanting to be distracted from her more macabre thoughts. What should I do to dear Batchaser? Shall I slice his whiskers? Hmmm, no that is too simple. Perhaps, burry him in the mud again?

The voice that pricked his ears made him wince slightly. Stonepaw hadn't managed to talk to Agatepaw since their falling out, since he snapped in her face. He wasn't going to say out loud that he was eavesdropping, but he wouldn't try to move away, that's for sure. He missed her.

Or, him, apparently. That would be something to get used to. Is that what he was so upset about? Then what about all the other stuff? He didn't know, and he wasn't about to find out. He couldn't bring himself to go apologize, or say anything really. He looked over to them. His parents didn't really pay him much mind. Though he'd done that himself, he was at least glad that Agatepaw was closer with them than he was. His, er, brother, needed them more. Stonepaw would focus on other things. Like training. Like he was getting the itch for, suddenly.

the black smoke blinked, as suddenly voices were heard over the normal communal spot. his eye drifted to the location, tired and groggy as usual. talonpaw blinked again, before realizing what was going on.

agatepaw was coming out and his family was supportive. Talonpaw didn't know how to feel, so simply, in his monotonous voice- he did what others didn't. Call it nice, or really just to get the weirdness over.... But was it weird? He didn't really know.

"Good on you, bud."

Does she truly care about who the others in her clan love? Of course she doesn't. But she can't help but keep a watchful, wary eye on Agatepaw's parents, ready to jump to his defense at a moment's notice. Starclan seemed to want peace within Shadowclan's camp, instead calling for their parents to welcome their son with open paws. Luckily enough for her, this spared her the angry eyes and comments of her clanmates for sticking her nose in other cats' business, at the expense of ruining the peaceful day. Nodding to Agatepaw as she walked past, she felt there was no longer any need to listen in on the conversation, and could instead find something useful to do with herself.
