camp PRESS RELEASE — patrol report

"I need to speak to Howlingstar," the tabby mews briskly as he shivers through the gorse tunnel and into the ravine. His eyes are narrowed, burning like lit coals. He turns to the rest of his patrol with a flick of his pluming tabby tail. "We've just come from the SkyClan border. We met Twitchbolt and his apprentice there." The warrior paces forward a few steps, clearly troubled.

After curious faces have gathered near to hear his report, Raccoonstripe declares, "RiverClan and SkyClan met peacefully without the other Clans. Twitchbolt called it an act of diplomacy, but his apprentice referred to it as a second Gathering." He snorts, his whiskers twitching. "I'll tell you what it sounds like. SkyClan and RiverClan are forming an alliance." He flicks his gaze from cat to cat. "Why else would ThunderClan be excluded?"

I need to speak to Howlingstar. Their stand in deputy announces as he pushes his way through the camp's tunnel. Those were never words she liked to hear...What did he do this time? Her pelt prickled in guilt as that was the first thought to play through her mind, but she couldn't smell blood. Whatever happened hadn't escalated to a fight. The queen trotted over, glancing to the cat who ran to fetch their leader. The patrol had come from the Skyclan border. That sure is a popular border lately.. Did their neighbors trespass and steal some of their prey? She couldn't say she would be surprised if that were the case, but if that were what happened, there would surely be more signs of a scuffle. Raccoonstripe wouldn't have let that fly...and nor would she.

She was surprised however at what the tom said next. "They what?" Two clans meeting together for a 'second gathering', without the truce of a full moon? She had never heard of such a thing. Why in the name of Starclan would Orangestar agree to such an idiotic agreement? Didn't she know that Riverclan was full of fox hearts? "I could think of a reason we weren't invited." she says flicking an ear. The prey stealing patrol hadn't been that long ago, but the fact that this hadn't been brought up to Howlingstar was...concerning to say the least. Just what had they discussed at their 'gathering'? She had thought the leader of Skyclan had a decent head on her shoulders...but to team up with Riverclan? She wasn't sure what to think now.

a longhaired red tabby with low white and green eyes. flamewhisker's fur is a vibrant hue of red, riddled with thick classic tabby markings. her fur is medium in length, and she has a large, feathery tail. her chest, belly, tail tip, and her paws are dipped white. flamewhisker's eyes are a dark, deep shade of green. her shoulder has a large scar on it from a fight with a dog. she also has a shredded ear from a disagreement with a loner during her time alone before joining thunderclan. on particularly cold days, or sometimes before a major weather change, she will walk with a slight limp from her shoulder injury.

𓍊𓋼 Raccoonstripe returns to camp with an immediate request to talk to the leader, and Falconheart’s attention is drawn to him just as surely as it would have been if the lead warrior had returned bloody and bruised. But the tabby-striped tom is apparently uninjured, so Falconheart approaches slowly, careful to keep his distance as Flamewhisker greets the tom first. Raccoonstripe explains that they’d met a SkyClanner at the border and heard that SkyClan and RiverClan had met for a large gathering at the border between them. And ThunderClan… ThunderClan had been excluded without a word.

His ears flatten—he’s part of the reason for ThunderClan’s tension with SkyClan, just like Raccoonstripe is. That’s probably why Orangestar didn’t want ThunderClan to be there for their… miniature gathering, or whatever the two clans had been doing at the border. But whatever it is, it isn’t Falconheart’s responsibility. It isn’t his problem. He stays quiet, knowing that the conversation between lead warrior and deputy isn’t his place to speak up.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ she is not far from flamewhisker when raccoonstripe share's the news. to her annoyance, a swollen belly keeps her from reaching the patrol in time to issue a quick response. gentlestorm had said there were two, and yet she couldn't help but feel like there was a whole battle party growing inside of her.

skyclan and riverclan meeting with each other outside of the full moon was certainly more pressing. if it were truly a diplomatic venture, why had they not been invited? the matter of the prey had been sorted, did orangestar hold more ire than she had let on? her lips twitch into a subtle frown, lopsided she sits as flamewhisker answers with hints of an accusation.

"that matter has been settled." she comments, ears flicking. she didn't write orangestar off as a conniving or two-faced molly, if she had come to terms with howlingstar, nightbird believed she would honor her word. still, her tail twitches in uncertainty. the last thing they needed was riverclan purring poison into orangestar's ears.

like a siren’s call, leafhusk pads over to the newly returned patrol. her ears swivel to listen, staying quiet while her fellow, more experienced council mates speak up. a quiet scoff slips past her maw, anxiety prickling at the corners of her fur. skyclan knew better than to wander upstream, share tongues with those who reeked of fish… it’s not possible that a one-time incident is the root cause of this. there is something deeper, festering within this possibly, hence why thunderclan wasn’t invited.

orangestar switching up the status quo already sounds so tedious. she’s hurt that thunderclan wasn’t invited, they’re good people despite the little incident howlingstar promised wouldn’t happen again. they’re fun. "it doesn't sound settled on their side if orangestar suddenly has an appetite for fish." she eventually pipes up (housecats do eat sardines in cans, but no one would know that), glancing at the nursery's newest queen.

Palefire swiftly followed the lead warrior into the camp's clearing, irritation already leeching its way into her icy blue eyes. She didn't much care for the other clans as a general rule, but had considered Skyclan to be the most decent among them (even inspite of their overwhelming number of kittypet members). To hear, from the mouth of an overly-eager apprentice no less, that their neigbors had been conniving with Riverclanners behind their backs felt like a slap in the face. If Orangestar did still have a problem with Thunderclan over the prey-stealing, as her clanmates seemed to suspect, then why wouldn't she come and sort it out with them directly? The whole situation reeked of deception.

She remained quiet and still at Raccoonstripe's side as one-by-one, her clanmates voiced their concerns. Her attention drifted to Nightbird as her former mentor brought up the idea that the issue between their two clan's had been settled, to which Leafhusk seemed to disagree. "Whatever was going on, it was very obvious that Twitchbolt didn't want us to know," she exhaled sharply, ears swiveling back against her skull. "As soon as this 'second gathering' was mentioned and Raccoonstripe questioned him about it, he shut right up and seemed desperate to leave." The look he gave to Candorpaw had been a clear warning as well; stop talking. It was all rather fishy, to say the least.

As soon as she’d heard her presence was requested, Howlingstar moved quickly from her den to find many of her council members surrounding Raccoonstripe’s patrol. Her ears flick forward curiously, fern eyes rounding with worry as she begins to pad forward. Her son speaks of a second Gathering between two of their neighbors and already a pit of concern worms itself in her stomach. She looks to Flamewhisker, looks to Leafhusk, and shakes her head, appearing distraught. “Nightbird is right. I settled that matter with Orangestar. I see no reason she’d still hold anything against ThunderClan.” So then why would two clans see fit to have a Gathering between just them? It makes absolutely no sense. Her agitation is clear by the lashing of her tail. Her gaze finds Palefire as the young warrior speaks and she tilts her head, probing for more, “You mean, like they were hiding something?” That only makes her feel more uneasy. What reason would RiverClan and SkyClan have to meet in private without the presence of any other clan? Without even the presence of SkyClan’s only other neighbor?

He had learned moons ago to sit down and shut up as the council was talking. Raccoonstripe was his mentor, and a good mentor, but Thistlepaw was still an apprentice and he did not have a place in these conversations. Despite the tension nearly vibrating him out of his skin, he holds his oath of silence for many long minutes. And then it bursts from him in a moment of something akin to frustration, though anyone that looks too closely at his bared teeth and narrowed eyes will find concern instead. "They only share a border with ThunderClan," he repeats what he had to Raccoonstripe. "Whatever WindClan and ShadowClan did– what if it wasn't just a gathering? They could–" Does it sound insane? Panicked? It wasn't settled. They were petty kittypets looking for revenge, going around Howlingstar like this.

He wasn't part of this. He remembers that suddenly, vividly, so Thistlepaw shuts up and sits down again, mouth clamped closed with a snip.
