It was a relief to be back in the tunnels after his initial stay in the medicine cat den, thankfully not for anything as dreadful as yellowcough but just a simple sprain caused by a wrong turn that left him buried and in a brief panic; the paw twist had been the only thing he sustained during it which he was more than grateful for. Cats had died underground, cats had suffocated in the dirt and swallowed it down; no burial needed, they blocked off the tunnel and went around. How many corpses lay dormant in the earthen walls around him he often wondered, but then he shoves the thought away to keep digging. Regardless, it brings him joy and he takes to his tasks with urgency and delight. Violetwisp had missed the badger incident, had not been present for their new work and was more than a little bothered by it since he would have loved to assist, though maybe a small part of him was pleased that he had not had to risk dealing with a disgruntled badger. Speaking of such things, he had left the healer's company and finally caught himself back up on the news to find they had a new deputy, Badgermoon was a traitor and the journey cats had left. He missed everything! So much had happened in just a few moons it was a wonder he didn't show back up to find he was now the leader instead, oh-what a terrible universe that would be. Violetstar, the hole digger. He'd probably have to stop digging holes, so no thanks.
The black and white tom wriggled his way back out of the tunnel he'd just been smoothing out, nose dirtied and fur clumped with streaks of mud and dry clay from the dampness that had pressed downward from earlier rains into the soil; felt good to be back doing something productive again. Rising to stand from his exit he shook to get as much dirt off himself as possible before deciding that rolling in the grass might be a better method and proceeded to do just that. He didn't want to go to the sunwarmed pools, too much of a walk right now, and he was already thinking of a nice warm meal that he was disinclined to not go for as soon as possible. Hopefully someone caught something small and substantial he could eat alone, if not he'd need to find company to share...
He raises his head from the ground in his rolling to see a shadow fall and tilts it to view his new companion with an upside down smile, "Hey, did you see the freshkill pile? Was there anything small on it?"
