Violetwisp

It was a relief to be back in the tunnels after his initial stay in the medicine cat den, thankfully not for anything as dreadful as yellowcough but just a simple sprain caused by a wrong turn that left him buried and in a brief panic; the paw twist had been the only thing he sustained during it which he was more than grateful for. Cats had died underground, cats had suffocated in the dirt and swallowed it down; no burial needed, they blocked off the tunnel and went around. How many corpses lay dormant in the earthen walls around him he often wondered, but then he shoves the thought away to keep digging. Regardless, it brings him joy and he takes to his tasks with urgency and delight. Violetwisp had missed the badger incident, had not been present for their new work and was more than a little bothered by it since he would have loved to assist, though maybe a small part of him was pleased that he had not had to risk dealing with a disgruntled badger. Speaking of such things, he had left the healer's company and finally caught himself back up on the news to find they had a new deputy, Badgermoon was a traitor and the journey cats had left. He missed everything! So much had happened in just a few moons it was a wonder he didn't show back up to find he was now the leader instead, oh-what a terrible universe that would be. Violetstar, the hole digger. He'd probably have to stop digging holes, so no thanks.
The black and white tom wriggled his way back out of the tunnel he'd just been smoothing out, nose dirtied and fur clumped with streaks of mud and dry clay from the dampness that had pressed downward from earlier rains into the soil; felt good to be back doing something productive again. Rising to stand from his exit he shook to get as much dirt off himself as possible before deciding that rolling in the grass might be a better method and proceeded to do just that. He didn't want to go to the sunwarmed pools, too much of a walk right now, and he was already thinking of a nice warm meal that he was disinclined to not go for as soon as possible. Hopefully someone caught something small and substantial he could eat alone, if not he'd need to find company to share...
He raises his head from the ground in his rolling to see a shadow fall and tilts it to view his new companion with an upside down smile, "Hey, did you see the freshkill pile? Was there anything small on it?"

Gooseberry would forever be grateful that he was too big to be a tunneler. Not that he had anything against them, they did honest work. But it’s not work that he would be willing to do. Though, fighting a badger would be a nice test of his skill…well, if WindClan continues to be unlucky, it wouldn’t surprise him if another one showed up in camp out of nowhere.

But if there was anything he would be fighting in the future, it would mostly likely be the pathetic excuse of a former deputy. How could he really trust any of his clanmates if even Badgermoon could suddenly turn on them? His loyalties would lay with Sootstar no matter what, so he cannot picture any reason as to why they would so willingly throw away it all.

Well, that’s not his concern right now. As per usual, his tongue longs for the taste of fresh prey. Too bad that pesky new rule was recently put in place, else he’d be snacking like he usually does. At least it won’t be too long until he can eat. As his mind is on food, he stumbles onto Violetwisp, who seems to have the same idea in mind. Though something small wouldn’t suffice for him, at least it leaves cats like him with something more filling. “Think there was a mouse, last time I checked. You better hope a queen doesn’t snatch it up first.”

SOOTSTAR
Sootstar had emerged from a nearby tunnel to catch some fresh air. Her apprentice, @BLUEPAW , sat beside her. She reaches over and tries to groom dirt out from the blue she-cats ear, grooming was a never ending task for cats like them.

Several fox-lengths away, Violetwisp rolled in the grass to brush his own fur off. Gooseberry shadows over him to note he recalls a mouse. He warns if the tunneler does not hurry back a queen might already have snatched it. Silver whiskers twitch in subtle amusement, she leans over to call, ”Sunstride had sent out a hunting patrol last I was in camp. If they were lucky, the pile should soon be restocked.” Hopefully… her belly was beginning to complain.

──ᨒ↟↟ᨒ↟ᨒ↟↟ᨒ── Wolfsong worries for the future of their freshkill pile, given leafbare's approach and their journeying cats far from them. To face both yellowcough and hunger— one may very well ensure the other, even with their sick kept separately at the badger set. He can only ensure they are as prepared as they can be for waning strength and any other illnesses they are more susceptible to while weakened. Cottonpaw is of great help, and he walks with her in tow today, carrying the rabbit remains his kits had not eaten.

He pauses, the nearby conversation bending his ear, and reroutes his path from the pile to the tunneler. It is not much, what he lowers to the ground, but from the sounds of it, Violetwisp does not want something heavy. Small as tunnelers are, it is not surprising. "It is a leaner rabbit," he says, looking down at the darker feline from nearby Gooseberry. "My kits ate most of it, but what remains could be a meal for you if you cannot wait for Sunstride." He turns to glance at his apprentice. "Unless you would care for it, instead."

WOLFSONG of WINDCLAN FORMER ROGUE TURNED MEDICINE CAT. 38 MOONS, HE/HIM, NPC X NPC. MATES WITH SUNSTRIDE (07/05/2023). BIOGRAPHY, PINTEREST, & PLAYLIST.
  • ★★★☆☆ WOUNDS: You're (mostly) in safe paws. You'll know if he's less experienced if he asks for your permission to try a treatment. No wound can scare him away from knowledge.
★★★☆☆ INFECTION: He can prevent most infections. If you feel feverish, let him know; he'll hum thoughtfully over herbs and sniff your wound before saying, "With your blessing..."
  • ★☆☆☆☆ ACHES & PAINS: If you complain to him of pain, he'll ask where. If it's a headache, you'll likely feel a bit better. For anything else, "Try this, if you'd like, and tell me how you feel."
★☆☆☆☆ BROKEN BONES: At best. he can ask you to remain lying down in the den. He may try to distract you with conversation while he considers what herb to feed you.
  • ★★★★★ TRAVELING HERBS: Going somewhere? No worries; Wolfsong knows just what you need to stay hale and healthy during your journey. The rest is up to you.
★★☆☆☆ KITTING: Thanks to Starlingheart, he's better prepared for the arrival of kits, but any complications will need a little faith and a lot of luck.
  • ★☆☆☆☆ POISONS: It's best if you avoid eating anything unfamiliar to you— it's probably just as unfamiliar to Wolfsong. The best he can do is offer you yarrow and sit with you.
★★☆☆☆ ILLNESS: If it's white or greencough, you'll likely recover. Otherwise, prepare for odd concoctions and the usual request that you consent to a little trial-and-error.
