*+:。.。 Their loved ones are in the medicine den for painfully different reasons.
It's not uncommon for the grieving and the concerned to linger outside of Gentlestorm's den, hesitant to get in his way, but languishing in agony for any news - any crumb of hope. Bugpaw has sat sentinel at the outer edge of the healer's shadow since Squirrelpaw had been brought inside. She left only to retrieve something for her, and any other soul left starving from tear-streaked exhaustion. As she returns, reluctantly holding a sparrow she isn't sure she can stomach, her eyes land on a familiar dawn's golden pelt.
Her eyes water instantly.
"Basilpaw..." his name leaves her as a whimper, sympathy squeezing her heart so tight it's a miracle she got the words out. She approaches him, reluctantly only out of fear that he needs space. If she's not immediately rejected, she'll drop the bird at his paws and promptly wrap her paws around him, holding her friend close. There isn't a pun in this universe that could ease her friend's pain, so she doesn't bother. Words would feel like throwing rocks at a mudslide.
Her entire life, she grew up without a dad. There's a strange ache to missing someone you never met before...it's the sort of grief she wouldn't wish on anyone. But there's a stark difference to wanting to meet someone...and wanting to see someone just one more time. Bugpaw would give anything to hear what her dad's laugh sounded like...Basilpaw knew the sound of his father's. He knew his laugh, his glare, the weight of his hug. He knew all of that...he wouldn't know what a world without those precious treasures was like.
But he was forced to, now.
Squeezing her best friend tighter, she tries and fails to keep her eyes dry.
