She wasn’t sure why she hadn’t spoken to Celandinepaw about why he had finally walked past the fence that she straddled. Unsure if she should remain at home in the barn or if she wandered beyond the border of the Horseplace further into WindClan. Wanting to experience the great beyond that had drawn his littermate in with its allure, at the time he didn’t get it. When WindClan had shown up at their doorstep it had been nothing but chaos, she didn’t get why at the time anyone would want to leave the dedicated work that mousing could give and the comfort of a warm barn for the rough and tough uncertainty that being a clan cat could give.

This was a decision that she regretted almost immediately. Missing Celandine dearly and daydreaming what could have happened if she had followed her, what would life have been? He didn’t have to think of that life anymore, as he was living it. Back in his sister's life and facing WindClan, which actually was quite peaceful for the most part. A stark contrast from the state he had last seen them in, it seemed as the moors grew back so did the clan itself. Nowadays she felt rather foolish in her hasty decision to disregard them, quite happy with clan life now she wondered what it could have been if she joined when her sister did.

Marigold still thought about the moon often, the strange fact that it had clouded over. She had discussed superstitious theories with his mother but nothing stuck. Deep down she was convinced it had something to do with the clan and to an extent Celandinepaw herself. Maybe that was part of her trying to rationalise his reasoning for leaving her parents, battling that guilt. Today though, he developed the courage to finally ask about it. He found her out in the quieter parts of camp, it seemed like she was trying to enjoy the sun. “Heya sis” he called out as she approached, taking the opportunity to sit beside her.

Closing her eyes and listening to the breeze carrying through in the distance, the clatter of clan mates and the buzzing of insects. “Do you know what was with the moon that one night?” She asked in a gruff meow, opening her eyes and tilting his head to look back at the apprentice. Hoping that she wouldn’t need to clarify as she believed it was actually pretty obvious about what she was talking about.

Celandinepaw wondered why now, of all times. Why had her siblings decided to join her now, instead of earlier? The spotted tabby straddled the line between her civility and their wilderness, as though she plumbed the arcs of which the hills peeked and bowed, studying it from the warmth of the windowsill. There had always been a sense of detachment, though, for she was a mere bystander in the rushing and capering of the outside world. Still, the silhouettes of distant cats had captivated her, flittering through the wildgrasses like mere phantoms of the daytide. She waited on it for what seemed like forever, with more forethought than she had ever given anything else in her short life, as though the rhumb of the horizon crossed even into her waking, idle days. Aside from the alienation, a careening force of dissatisfaction had also dwelled within her gut. There was little to be gained by staying within the Horseplace, and the ambitious mind tended to wander towards the thought of doing more, ambling and unwonted as it seemed. And now, her siblings decided that she had not been capable of such a decision, like they looked at the mere contour of their sister instead of what lie inside. Had the three come out of pity or concern? She thought herself fully capable of surviving in the wilds - she had come this far, after all, and a weaker body would have surely succumbed.

The littlest part of her, dark knoll of a seed within her soils, wished that Marigold and the rest of her brood had never crossed the Windclan border in search for her. Windclan felt exotic, in the way that she had been the only one brave enough to traverse beyond the embrace of the wood-laden fence.

"Heya, Marigold." Celandinepaw offered her sibling a sunshot smile as he sat besides her, countenance's slope versed in all the roundness of the light, for its tendency to soften at its touch had always been apparent upon her face. As if the morning's first rays, her face had washed of any other temperature other than warmth. She could not bring herself to resent her siblings, no matter if they had crossed into this personal little world of hers. The wind played alongside Celandine's flanks, like it shimmered along the laths in lattices, spotted markings almost wanting to bleed and blend into the wheats. Clanmates' conversations strung along the symphony of forenoon insect, and sometimes one thread started to leach into the other, and the words became unintelligible chitterings. Marigold had asked about the moon, as if Celandinepaw had any more of an idea than the Horseplace mousers did. "The moon...? Oh! Yeah, when the moon hid away. I'm not sure, honestly. At first, I thought it was normal for Windclan. But then, everyone else started freaking out, so I freaked out, too! Some cats said it was an omen, like Starclan or something was mad at Sunstar." Her tone had been dented in uncertainty, like seams of yarn defiled by prying hands, ivy snaking through the trellises.

Oblivious to Celandinepaw’s turmoil and trying to ignore his own resentment and regret he exhaled, allowing himself to properly enjoy the sun’s rays. He knows that he shouldn’t resent her, she had the courage to leave home and join a clan of cats in an unfamiliar area. She herself couldn’t have done that until now, claiming duty as eldest of the litter to her parents but it was rather her own cowardice. Celandinepaw was able to experience freedom and avert those shackles of self imposed duty back at Horseplace.

His sister had always been good at that, marching by the beat of her own drum. Unaware of how cautious or insecure that beat may be, maybe it was her own negligence or perhaps some form of idolisation for the apprentice. Spending too much time to think about the wonders and not anything lurking below that surface level inspection. “What made ya think that it’s normal for WindClan?” She meows curiously, bringing her tail to drape across her siblings spine. Like she used to do on stormy nights at Horseplace, when the wind was bash against the structure and the rain would pelt down hard, an old act of comfort- or rather just an act of familiarity.

After her initial interruption she lapsed into a respectful silence. Squinting incredulously at the mention of it being an omen, she supposes she can’t be too critical over that thought. She herself thought it was some kind of omen about her sibling after all. Marigold can blame the innocence that comes with being freshly introduced to the clan, yet she can’t understand why anyone would be mad at Sunstar, clan or not. “Has he done something wrong?” Surely Celandinepaw would know, she had been here longer after all. “I thought that maybe you were in trouble or somethin’” She confessed with an awkward chuckle, clearly these thoughts were misled because her littermate was here next to her seemingly with no knick or scratch marring her.
