riding shotgun underneath the hot sun | patrol assignments

It had been a while since Flycatcher had stood here assigning daily patrols. Of course there had been attempts to organise hunts when they sheltered in ShadowClan, but it was not to the extent of how it was done in ThunderClan. It had only been a few days since the return to camp and the return of some of the journeying cats, but slowly normality was starting to return to camp...or at least it was for Flycatcher. He didn't realise how much he missed assigning daily patrols until he was forcibly unable to do so. Besides, thinking about patrols gave him something better to do than sit around worrying about Flamewhisker and Stormpaw too much. That was something he would address when they actually made it home. "ThunderClan!" Flycatcher called out, taking his usual spot in the centre of camp where he liked to dispense patrols. "Please gather for the patrol assignments!"

"Batwing, I would like you to lead the dawn patrol along the RiverClan and SkyClan border today. You may take Moonwhisper and Honeydapple with you."

"Howlingstar has asked to lead the dawn patrol along the border with ShadowClan and WindClan. Mousenose, Shiningsun, you will accompany her."

"Burnstorm you lead your last patrol well so I am leaving it to you to lead the dusk patrol along our border with RiverClan and SkyClan. Take Wolfwind and Sandthorn with you."

"I will be leading the dusk patrol along the border with ShadowClan and WindClan. Raccoonstripe, Stormywing, I want you to join me. Berryheart has also asked to tag along to look for any herbs he might need."

"Hunting patrols are to be handled by Freckleflame and Rabbitnose. I leave it to them to choose the cats they want on their patrol."

"And lastly, Nightbird, I want you to hold a small training session at the sandy hollow. We had some new apprentices last moon and it might benefit them to have a small group session overseen by one of our lead warriors."

With assignments given, Flycatcher waits to see if there are any questions, before dismissing the clan.

To fall back into routine so easily feels wrong. So much is wrong. But she had asked to lead a patrol today because she needed something to get her mind off of Little Wolf, off of the journeying cats that still haven't made it home. Daily, she has sent a patrol to Highstones to wait for them. Daily, they return with no one in tow. Her worry grows by the day, but she knows she must trust Flamewhisker to get her remaining clanmates home. She has a clan to look after, after all.

Flycatcher assigns her to the dawn patrol along WindClan and ShadowClan and the tabby nods dully. Her gaze quickly finds Mousenose and Shiningsun and she is at least able to offer them a gentle smile before she begins to look for her apprentice. "Will Gingerpaw be coming with us?" She asks Shiningsun idly, still scanning the camp for Skypaw.

She feels numb, hates how quickly life has moved onward and she feels as if she has not mourned enough to be free of the overwhelming grief. It reminds of her losing Morningpaw all over again, how the clan kept going and she hollowed herself away in the apprentice den in silence; miserable that it felt like no one cared. She understands, part of her does anyways, that the clan can not just stop until feeling of loss ebbed away into a still silence but she hates it all the same. It isn't fair and she only approached the gathered group of cats awaiting Flycatcher's patrol because she wants a distraction from her thoughts.
Moonwhisper hears her name and pauses. Surely he had not just assigned her to go to SkyClan, surely he wasn't such an idiot he would think that made sense to do? Everyone knew she despised the kittypet clan, everyone knew her feelings on her family there and everyone now knew her mother had died saving one of their useless apprentices.
The tortie point feels her entire body go cold and then warm, blazing hot and bristling around her, "No." She says suddenly, a quiet whisper like her name before more louder and with more firmness, tears bite the corners of her eyes but she does not let them fall, "You've got bees for a brain, assign it to someone ELSE." She pivots, turns, stomps off angrily to the edge of camp and no amount of cats calling her name or attempting to stop her would slow her escape. The nerve, the absolute nerve-she hated that idiot Flycatcher, despised his fool face and airheaded nature. You could replace him with a rock and no one would know the difference, what a waste of power, what a terrible choice for the cat who would leader after her grandmother.

Batwing was there as soon as Flycatcher was calling it. His head tilted gently as assignments went out- he was leading another patrol, not too surprising- but what was surprising was Moonwhisper's outburst. Vision snapped towards the younger warrior, green optics narrowing as she threw a tantrum. A tantrum, over patrolling a border- he forced his emotions to quell, like passing through the eye of a hurricane. A soft breath left his nose.

Vision shifted back towards Flycatcher- dipping his head- before looking out into camp. "You and me, Honeydapple. You can bring a friend if they aren't assigned to anything." He pushed to his paws, heading off to get ready for the patrol.
