sacrilege in the name of public good ⁀➷ hunting patrol

ˏˋ*⁀➷ Fallowbite feels... Out of place, heading a patrol like this - especially with the deputy padding after her. For all her bared teeth and tough attitude, she is not a social creature. She has no desire for authority, and it fits her awkwardly. Especially now, this tenuous position as watch dog for a cat who she wants so deeply to sink her own claws into. She keeps her head down, pads through the undergrowth in tense silence.

C'mon. Keep up," is all the shaggy-furred warrior offers its small patrol. It does not waste breath on niceties, letting the hum of the forest cascade around it instead. It would almost be soothing, if not for the circumstances. Once it has trekked far enough (How far is that? Enough to not fear Skyclaw's watchful eye?) it stops. "Um. Get hunting, I guess," she mutters half-heartedly, turning to flick her eye across the gathered cats before setting off on her own.

〕Flamewhisker padded silently behind the patrol leader. As much as she despised being guarded, Fallowbite was the best possible outcome. With Baying Hound's kit, she had more freedom than she did with any of his other followers. Her hunts wouldn't be intentionally disrupted. She could say things that were otherwise punishable by death if they fell upon the wrong ears. Her days seemed to be spent in silent grief, but in reality she was watching...studying. Not everyone in the camp was a follower of Skyclaw, but there were certainly some she needed to be weary of.

When Fallowbite dismissed them to go hunt, she dipped her head slightly in response to it's dismissal. Fallowbite had been there during their rushed council meeting, so it knew what she was about to do. Good thinking...you'll be better off if you don't hear. Green eyes turn to her apprentice, Merlinpaw. "Go on ahead...I'll be right there." She nudged her shoulder gently with her nose, signaling for her to lead the way. Today would be a great day to see how her new apprentice was doing on finding scent trails. They would have to catch something before returning back to camp, or else who knew what Skyclaw would do...but she had plenty of time to go hunt.

After she was sure her apprentice was out of earshot, the deputy turned to the remaining cats. Her daughter was among them, but she trusted Squirrelpaw would not share what she was about to say. She had sent Merlinpaw away to protect her. She was still a brand new apprentice, training was more important than adding on the stress of a rebellion. Lovelight, Lightflower, and Braveheart were warriors she trusted, and she prayed to Starclan that she was right in trusting them.

"Don’t get caught. Don’t let them… kill you. The clan needs you...We need you."

Falconheart's words echoed through her mind, and she took in a deep breath. If she was wrong, Skyclaw would strike her down like he had Howlingstar. "Thunderclan will not submit to Skyclaw. I will not allow it." Her voice was low, but firm. She slowly turned her head to meet each of their gazes, searching for any signs of disapproval. "Can I count on you to stand against him when the time comes?"

a longhaired red tabby with low white and green eyes. flamewhisker's fur is a vibrant hue of red, riddled with thick classic tabby markings. her fur is medium in length, and she has a large, feathery tail. her chest, belly, tail tip, and her paws are dipped white. flamewhisker's eyes are a dark, deep shade of green. her shoulder has a large scar on it from a fight with a dog. she also has a shredded ear from a disagreement with a loner during her time alone before joining thunderclan. on particularly cold days, or sometimes before a major weather change, she will walk with a slight limp from her shoulder injury.

Merlinpaw stuck close to Flamewhisker as the hunting patrol treaded through the oak forest, like a thorn that prickled at the peach-flesh skin, clinging far too tightly to where it did not belong. Skyclaw's followers sent jolts of white-hot fear through her chest, with Fallowbite garnering much more dread than her peers, with shaggy fur and protruding fangs much akin to a monster. Merlin just attempted to focus her ears upon the humming of the woodlands, though even it had pursed its lip in the face of tyranny - the birds did not sing and the twigs did not rattle. "Go ahead... I'll be right here." Flamewhisker's comforting voice sounded to the young apprentice's ears, and Merlinpaw found her pawsteps faltering to go farther than where her mentor stood, as though she shirked at the detrition truncating her from the solid pillar. Golden eyes glanced upwards to the deputy, wide and strigine in their concern, as if Merlinpaw would surely die if she strayed too far from a watchful eye. But, she couldn't just disobey her mentor's word... "'Kay... I'm gonna come back with - with something..." The blue tortoiseshell stammered as she padded onwards to greet the bowed shadows, like a vignette of which light had been sheared off, enveloping her in a picturesque portrait of what lie outside of a narrow mind. It had been for the best, for despite the young molly's perception, the despot's rule had come rushing in like a brutal tidal wave. Perhaps she would understand in the future, but her hummingbird heart had already been beset with the anxieties of fulfilling her duties - to add to that stress would surely lead to an early grave for the adolescent. The outside crooned to her, as if it would shield her far better than what transpired within her own home.

. ° ✦ Braveheart followed along in the string of hierarchy he had known for so long. Flamewhisker's tail led him through the brush as habit, feeling strange not to see Fallowbite beside him. At least Lovelight and Lightflower were there too, his own sibling as the formers side.

"Feeling lucky today?" He asked @HOPEPAW with a natural, genuine smile. Returning to the flow of duty always helped Braveheart feel right again, even if this was a little wrong. He nodded as Fallowbite dismissed them to disperse, sticking to Hopepaw's direction to observe the progression his kin has made in the few weeks of his training. Flamewhisker had other plans, however, not jumping into the hunt right away.

An urgency to not bend to Skyclaw's whims. Of course Braveheart had shared these thoughts, that justice would reign and overrule the usurper, but had found himself lacking in any sort of thoughtful planning. Thankfully Flamewhisker had never truly left her place as deputy. Not in her heart.

"Yes, you can." Braveheart stated firmly, glancing to the others in glowing encouragement. "We need to fight for what's right, for the ThunderClan Howlingstar wanted."

  • BRAVEHEART — HE/HIM ・ 11 MOONS ・ THUNDERCLAN & WARRIOR ・ PENNED BY beatae!
A Longhaired chocolate tabby with a white locket and deep blue eyes. A large cat who stands tall and proud. His coat is thick with long wispy curls. Severe scars from owl talons stretch across his shoulders and another that starts from his back down his left thigh.

Lovelight’s heart races as Flamewhisker’s words hang in the air, the weight of the situation pressing down on her like a heavy fog. She feels the gravity of the choice before them, one that will determine the future of ThunderClan. Her green eyes meet Flamewhisker’s, a mix of sorrow and determination swirling within. The loss of Howlingstar, the cruel grip Skyclaw has tightened around their Clan—it’s all too much. But this is their chance to make it right. She draws a steadying breath, her gaze flickering to Hopepaw, who stands nearby. Lovelight’s heart aches for him. Hopepaw is so young, just beginning to grasp the complexities of the world around him. This is not the time for him to be caught up in the darkness that has fallen over their Clan. But there is no way to shield him from the reality they face, not anymore.

Turning back to Flamewhisker, Lovelight speaks, her voice quiet but resolute; she doesn't send her apprentice away. She believes his own views are in line with hers, and that's enough to trust him to hear the conversation. “You have my loyalty, always. Skyclaw’s reign is built on fear and bloodshed, and I can’t stand by and watch our Clan be torn apart any longer. ThunderClan was never meant to be ruled by a tyrant. Howlingstar believed in us, in our strength, our unity. I believe in that too.” As she speaks, Lovelight keeps an eye on Hopepaw, hoping the young cat is taking this in without being overwhelmed. The thought of her apprentice being drawn into this conflict troubles her, but Lovelight knows that this is a battle they all have to face, even the apprentices. They need to understand what’s at stake, though she wishes with all her heart that Hopepaw could have had a more peaceful apprenticeship.

She glances at Braveheart, finding comfort in his unwavering support for Flamewhisker. She's glad that she is not alone in her determination to do something, to protect those who aren't able to fight back against the violent cats that claim to be 'protecting' ThunderClan. Her gaze shifts to Lightflower, seeking the same resolve in her eyes. Lovelight feels a surge of protectiveness toward her, mixed with a pang of sadness. She recalls their plans, their quiet talk of running away and leaving this behind. A sense of guilt rests at the bottom of her chest at the thought that she was so ready to abandon everyone, rather than make a plan and fight back as Flamewhisker seems to be doing. Silently, she promises herself that, no matter what, she will do everything in her power to keep those close to her safe, and to keep Hopepaw safe—to ensure he can grow up and learn in a Clan free from the pain and suffering that has been so prevalent lately.
