border season 2 episode 3ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ ThunderClan dawn patrol

"It's even colder today," The flame-sepia notes, trying to strike up a conversation with his patrol-mates. Chilled gales sweep through the forest despite the natural shelter the trees provide. The early frost had come in strong, and Roaringsun wished to get back to camp as soon as possible to warm up before he starts frosting too. Treading along the SkyClan border was enough to make his heart race from previous interactions, Raccoonstripe's skirmish with their neighbors still fresh on his mind. This was his first time leading a patrol, and he hoped nothing of the sort would happen again.

Being the only one in the patrol without an apprentice was also weird. He felt like he had no real authority over Addersnap or Tigerwing — both also older than he is. Amber eyes shift uncomfortably as he peers towards SkyClan's territory, wondering if they'd run into a patrol of their own.

ooc: wee bit late oopsies!! + @SPARKPAW apprentice tag :]

If there was anyone that the tabby didn't want to be on patrol with, it was Roaringsun. Especially with the younger of the three of them being the one to even lead the patrol. It was an insult to his status as a warrior. The flame-colored warrior had never done anything to him perse, but he believed still that Howlingstar assigning him to Leafhusk right after his apprenticeship ended had to be something against him. Did Howlingstar see more potential in Roaringsun than him? Was he just to be replaced, forgotten about by Leafhusk who now had someone else to care about too? The thought of Leafhusk possibly caring more about her other apprentice made Addersnap's stomach twist in agony.

But with this oncoming frost, it was hard to focus on unshared distaste when fear gripped his heart too easily. Shivering slightly as the icy winds blew through his fur, he could only nod to Roaringsun as he trekked along with Sparkpaw, who he was sure didn't want to be out here as much as him. Opening his maw to taste the air, Addersnap would shake his head as they approached a tree, signaling to Sparkpaw with a flick of his tail to go and mark it. "'M not smellin' anythin'. Ya tthhhink 'nyone's out there?"

Cherryblossom tucks her nose into her silken chest fur as she strides along the low-hanging branches of the pine forest. If even sheltered ThunderClanners were feeling the wind, the SkyClanners in the sparser canopy were being bitten by it. She barely remembers her whiskers as they shiver against the stiff needles; it makes it all the harder to comb bits of bark out of her cheek fur when she can't feel them there.

A frozen ear twitches to life at the faint rasp of voices below. Marking the treetops was a fruitless endeavor when their none of their neighbors could climb. She'd already marked a decent stretch of the bottom treeline though, and thought some solace in the heights was well-deserved. Maybe she could even catch a squirrel on the way home. Unfortunately, it seems all she'd be catching today were trespassers and thieves.

The calico hops down from her perch with a flourish, casting an unwarranted stink eye towards the brown tabby who'd spoken most recently. "It's not my fault you never learned how to look up," she sniffs. A petulant frown mars her face as she casts her gaze over the three-tabby patrol: the brown one, an orange one, and one in-between. None of them could possibly carry Little Wolf's noble blood. Then again, Raccoonstripe had been her brother. "I'm sure you lot are very busy. Lots of burrs waiting to be collected around here," she drawls saccharinely.

Crossing the territory perched in its steady cradle of branches was, in Hawkspine's opinion, the safest way to get to the border. He's glad that most of the Clan agrees. It gave them an advantage of height, some dappled-pelt warriors even earning camouflage among the leaves and needles. Despite the thicker undergrowth of ThunderClan's territory, it's hard to hide a pelt like the patrol leader's. His attention lingers on Roaringsun for an eternity cut short by bashful self-awareness, jerking towards the unintroduced Addersnap with a nod. Right! He was here on a patrol, not because they were going to chat.

At his other shoulder comes the voice of Cherryblossom, though she's a lot further down than he'd last noticed. Hawkspine turns his head further to compensate for his half-blurred vision and spots the former deputy at the roots of the tree. Her sarcasm isn't lost on Hawkspine, though the look he sends her way is mildly amused. It's very in-character for Cherryblossom to be aware of where burrs might be picked up. She'd rather drop dead than be caught with the offending prickles in her pelt.

"Hi ThunderClan!" The warmth to his meow is significantly more genuine than Cherryblossom's, and a look passed skyward to his perch woupd be met with a twitch of long whiskers. "How is prey running?"
