pafp SECOND HAND ⁺˖⋆ prompt

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ the day had been long, many thunderclanners settled to share tongues for the evening. nightbird had only just returned from patrol, paws cold and limbs aching. even if she wouldn't participate much in the gossip that would be traded, it never did any harm to hear. it was important to be up to date on the politics within the clan, whether she indulged or not.

settled not far from some apprentice's chatting, nightbird began the grueling process of trying to bring warmth to her paws once more. pointed ears subtly flicked to tune into their ramblings, training and friends and whatnot. perhaps she should be happy the topics were so mild, apprentices were to focus on becoming strong warriors, not who was padding after who. it shifted though, rather swiftly, to windclan's recent robbery of highstones. although she did not sit in the camps of all clans, she could assume it was a hot topic in each one. either way, nightbird listened keenly to what they had to say whilst unaware of her eavesdropping ears.
  • prompt: Nightbird overhears some naïve apprentice’s questioning Howlingstars decision to not put a stop to Windclan as soon as possible. How does she approach this? please wait for @tigerpaw. <3

"I don't have anything against Howlingstar. I really do admire her, I look up to her. The clans came together for the Journey- why can't we rally the troops- claim back what is rightfully all of ours?" she put in her opinion as Doepaw (npc) had mentioned what the brown tabby said at the meeting, and asked their opinions. So of course, Tigerpaw had something to say. She always did. And this didn't make her opinion or loyalty towards Howlingstar any less than what it was. She just didn't understand.

If she sent many on a journey that valuable members could die at, if the clans could just- reconnect one more time, wouldn't that mean that everything would be alright? "But, Sootstar is scary. I get that, and I know not much about windclan. But how can one clan fight four others? Highstones I thought was a safe space?"

She remembered how Howlingstar said Leafbare was here, and there wasn't a whole lot of other options- and tigerpaw was only a mere apprentice. Her opinion wouldn't matter and she knew that. But she had an aching feeling to always help who she could. And Windclan needed help. A lot of it by the sounds of it. Shed never been to a gathering, she didn't even know what they were like. But word of mouth spread quickly, and she herself was scared of them. Was Howlingstar scared too? Or was there more than that that Tigerpaw again, had yet to understand.

Reactions: nightbird

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ youth's naïvety was often grating to her ears, it was easy to condemn them for thoughts unsupported by moons of experience. tigerpaw didn't understand the very predicament they found themselves in. nightbird imagined it was difficult to. eradicating windclan from highstones by teeth and claw sounded like the right option, let them suffer for their unfairness. in doing so, thunderclan would be wretched. for their good-doing, their sense of justice, how backwards it must feel.

nightbird emerges from her not so hidden spot, joining the two apprentices casually. they were not in trouble, voicing opinions had never been a crime here, but words were easily misconstrued. it was best not to let this get out of hand.

"we're not withholding out of fear of sootstar," it almost sounds like a scoff. nightbird feared little, a bloodthirsty leader across the border who commanded brainless hounds did not quite make the cut. "you have not seen much of leafbare yet, but it alone will push thunderclan to it's breaking point. our time must be spent making sure we survive, not entertaining some battle-hungry fool."

that, however, did not explain why they couldn't rally the clans together for this cause. a thought suggested by both flamewhisker and batwing in their council meeting, she could see their influence on young tigerpaw. "the other clans are fickle. even if we have worked together before we cannot count on them for aid." she thinks of the sunningrocks ordeal, it was cicadastar then but surely his mate had similar beliefs. "you shouldn't lose sleep over windclan, they will get what they deserve." whether it be by the paws of thunderclan come newleaf, or starclan's anger manifesting into another charge of electricity, she was sure of it.

-ˋˏ ༻☽༺ ˎˊ- This evening's topic of gossip seemed to be about the meeting - about the highstones and WindClan. Badgerpaw didn't know much about WindClan, besides the fact that they were really, really scary and she didn't want to tussle with them. Though, Tigerpaw may have had a point - how could one Clan really hope to stand against four others?

Nightbird's sudden arrival to the conversation ruffled Badgerpaw's fur. She wasn't a massive fan of the dark warrior - serious, hard-working, all the things the blue tortie was not. She almost felt like waving her paw to dismiss the older warrior - this was apprentice talk time, not big mean warrior time. But instead she remained still and listened. It was a serious topic, after all.

Even if she didn't agree. She couldn't hold her tongue. "That doesn't make sense," she ended up interjecting. "Don't you think the other Clans are scared too? I mean, Highstones is for everybody - we aren't the only one that uses them. Right? So.. they would help, right?" She turned her green gaze back towards Tigerpaw for approval. Truthfully, she didn't really know what she was talking about - she'd just talk and talk until she got something right.

He listened, of course, he listened when that crazed molly fell from Tigerpaw’s lips with a wrinkled sneer. WindClan had been one thing, but to think she was above the laws of the land to claim Highstone as hers was deplorable—claiming neutral territory during leafbare had been frivolous. “Tell me.” He began, angling his comment to the apprentices, tone unconcerned. “Would you be willing to risk the lives of your clan?” He leaned forward, maw settled into a grim line. “In leafbare? Would you let your cats starve because of it?” It was unkind, but he spoke the harsh truth. To attack now was foolish. Even for them. He would hope the higher-ups would be more sensible, but even he had his doubts. Howlingstar was kind, but her heart was too big, and so was Spiderlily with doubts about his kits’ apprenticeship, thrust into it brought him much grief that he dared not share with anyone.
thought speech

Dark eyes glow like burning coals, lit with pleasure as the gorse shakes and Nightbird returns from a day’s patrols. Raccoonstripe pads over to where his mate lowers herself and begins to warm her paw pads, his jaws parted as he mrrows his greeting her way. But she’s focused elsewhere—her ears are pricked toward where a small group of apprentices share tongues, their inane gossip reaching tufted tabby ears. They discuss Highstones, express their fear over a mad leader whose claws run red with other Clans’ blood. He gives his mate an amused look as she speaks up, her voice cracking like lightning over the chatter. She puts the apprentices in her place—or tries to—and then Badgerpaw speaks up, telling her it makes no sense to keep their claws at bay.

Raccoonstripe gives Spiderlily a look, half-approving, as he reiterates Nightbird’s warning about leafbare. He clears his own throat, tucking his tail around his paws. “We cannot rely on the other Clans.” His tone is nonchalant, but his dark gaze is sharpened in Badgerpaw’s direction. “The kittypets and RiverClan face leafbare just as we do. And consider that not only are our prey piles smaller, but our herb stocks, too. Berryheart and Hailstorm will be treating our battle wounds with mud and grass if we aren’t careful.” His ears tip forward, wondering what rebuttal, if any, the younger cats will have.
