DON'T MAKE ME BE THE BAD GUY

The morning was sunny and bright, and while the air was quite chilly, it wasn't so unpleasant as to keep the child in a den all day. He's quick to finish up his breakfast, a bit of rabbit that his clan-mates had offered to share with him, and now he's bouncing through the WindClan clearing with boundless energy. Bristlekit had found a pebble to toy with, and so he tackled, batted, and clawed at it until it stirred dust into the windy air. There's a few chuckles from nearby clan cats that observe the kit's play, but the young tabby only sets his jaw and carries on. He wasn't just playing for their amusement, after all, he was training! Building his strength and skills for his soon-to-be apprentice days. It was quite the serious business, contrary to the WindClan cats who saw it as cute.

@ASPENPAW

( ) While the day is still young, Aspenpaw's already feeling a bit tired, having gone out on the dawn patrol that morning. Getting up that early is still a bit harrowing, especially when she had spent the night before working on her rabbit hunting technique, and so she had been incredibly grateful when Weaselclaw had given her some time to rest in camp before going back out for battle training later that afternoon. Not quite tired for a full-on nap, the apprentice had instead opted to simply lounge in the sun, basking in the feeling of the sun warming her fur, even if the breeze inevitably came back around to chill her once again. After a particularly strong gust of wind, Aspenpaw stirs, fluffing her fur up and blinking her eyes back open to scan across camp, hoping to find something more interesting than a battle of the wills with the wind. What catches her attention first is Bristlekit, scrabbling around with what looked like a small rock. A smile crosses her maw, though it's not one of amusement like some of their other clanmates - instead, she thinks of her own days of playing with pebbles and mossballs and feathers. It wasn't too long ago, really, and it's that thought that makes her remember that Bristlekit really isn't that much younger than she is, even if he hasn't had his apprentice ceremony just yet.

The thought is a strange one - when she had still been a kit, so many of the adults around her had told her that it wouldn't be long before she was an apprentice, or a warrior, even, and while she still feels just as far from being a warrior, Aspenpaw already finds herself reminiscing on days that were only a moon or two past. She doesn't quite understand it, how it could feel like more time has passed than really has, and idly she wonders if this feeling is what the others had meant when they said it wouldn't be long. As Bristlekit pounces once more onto the unassuming pebble, the apprentice picks herself up, carefully stretching out her limbs. While she's waiting for her mentor to finish whatever tasks he had set about to do, she might as well do something other than lay about, even if simple relaxation is something that's becoming harder and harder to come by. "Are you practicing your fighting skills? I bet you'll make a fierce apprentice one day, if that pebble has anything to say about it," she calls out pleasantly, making her way over to where Bristlekit is playing. "My favorite thing about being an apprentice was seeing just how big the moors are for the first time, but learning battle moves is a close second," Aspenpaw adds, a gleam in her eyes. Just from observing the way Bristlekit plays, it's clear that the tom has an affinity for the more rough side of warrior life, and even if she hasn't had a chance to learn too much just yet, she's still eager to impart some excitement to him.

DON'T MAKE ME BE THE BAD GUY

The approach of the apprentice raises cobalt eyes from the dust covered pebble, as Bristlekit sizes the other WindClanner up with a daring smirk, "Any day now!" The long-legged tabby asserts with a sharp nod. Any day now, and Sootstar would call a meeting and deem him worthy of being an apprentice of WindClan. Aspenpaw mentions the vastness of the windswept moors, and Bristlekit grins at the idea of darting through the tall grass, chasing hares and battling enemies like a true warrior.

"I'm gunna be the best apprentice WindClan has ever had." The young tom mews pridefully. "I'll catch all the rabbits, and chase out anyone dumb enough to trespass." He can picture it now, his powerful frame against the gales and his fangs gleaming. Blue eyes blink up toward Aspenpaw once again. "What about you? Fought off any kittypets yet? Or... catch any big hares?" He's bored out of his mind, surely Aspenpaw had some interesting stories?

( ) As Bristlekit responds, turning his attention away from his game, his words ring true as Aspenpaw really takes him in, perhaps for the first time. She's always been on the smaller side, sure, but they're practically the same size - one an apprentice, and one a kit. His assessment of any day now surely is accurate; certainly whenever the next meeting is called he'll move out of the nursery to join her as an apprentice. Bristlekit is probably much more excited about the ceremony, but the molly is also eager to have a new training partner to learn from, and likely to teach a thing or two to as well. At his boast, her grin widens. The best apprentice ever, huh? Surely that honor will go to one of Sootstar's children, since they're, well, Sootstar's children, though she doesn't say so aloud. Whether or not it's true, it's still a good goal to aspire to, and Aspenpaw's sure that it'll motivate Bristlekit for moons to come. And, who knows, maybe it really will come true some day; it's not like he's hard any training at all yet, so he just might turn out to be some sort of prodigy once he's an apprentice.

"I bet you'll be good at catching rabbits one day - you've gotta be really fast, and you gotta make sure not to underestimate them - trust me, they're smarter than they look," she agrees, offering one of the few pieces of advice she's learned so far. Trespassers, she doesn't know quite as much about - Aspenpaw's certainly never run into any, and somehow she doubts either of them would be too intimidating right now. With the questions posed to her, she blinks thoughtfully. "Well, I haven't had to chase anybody off yet, and I haven't caught any rabbits yet, but I was there when Sootstar brought back the rogues," she finally answers, certain he'll be interested in that. "I wouldn't say it was scary, since I knew we had a bunch of strong warriors with us, but it was intimidating to see them all, just watching while Sootstar was talking to their leader. It's the closest I've gotten to actually fighting, since Sootstar and their leader were battling and it seemed like we might all fight too, but of course Sootstar won." Aspenpaw leaves out the part where both Sootstar and Gin had lost their lives intentionally - while it probably wouldn't faze Bristlekit, the way that the two leaders' limp bodies had lain there, soaked in blood, still stuck with her, and the apprentice isn't entirely eager to relive that part. She'd rather focus on the victory, when Sootstar had stood back up and the rogues had all submitted to her leadership.
