SHADOWCLAN DEPUTY INTEREST CHECK
DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 11TH

Hello and welcome to our newest interest check for ShadowClan's deputy! It is evident that once Mirepurr finally accepts their new position, they will need someone by their side... but considering their unwillingness to replace Smogstar so suddenly, the decision for a new deputy will not come soon.

The deadline is November 11th as of me writing this. I want to give not only myself enough time, but also anyone who might be interested — the dip in activity after the last few months is completely understandable, and I don't want anybody to feel like their character might not fit the requirements due to unfortunate timing! Please ensure you read the rules and that you are aware of what this position entails. Don't be afraid to try your luck even if you feel nervous; I'd love to read through everybody's thoughts. <3

  • ・Be familiar with what is expected of you as a deputy by reading the rank guide and leadership guide! Similarly, you can only tryout if you don't already have a deputy or leader.

・Be prepared for anything — while I don't plan on stepping down anytime soon, should anything happen to me or my character, you will be required to step up in my stead.

・I am looking for someone who is willing to remain active, both on-site and in the Discord! Being friendly, approachable and dependable are also essential for this kind of position. I consider the relationship between leader and deputy to be highly collaborative!

・As per the rank guide, your duties would include (but will not be limited to): organizing patrols, assisting the HP team in a variety of ways, keeping the board and the server active and engaging, acting as a substitute whenever needed, etc. I would be happy to help you get used to these tasks, so even if you haven't had a HP before on here, don't fret!

・Due to OOC circumstances and the fact that this interest check will remain open for an undefined amount of time, I will be looking at post history and activity even after this thread's creation, not just before. This does not mean you can spam the board — doing so will only harm your chances instead of strengthening them! Remember, consistency is key, and quality over quantity is always better than vice versa!

・If you already peeked at the sign-up form, you might have noticed I am also interested in seeing applicants for a short-term position! There are many fun ways we could go about a temporary deputy (or two), so if you'd like to get a taste and spice things up without fully committing for a long while, this will be your best option! Note that your character losing their deputy rank will not necessarily have to come from death. :)

  • ・Your character must already be an adult; the older, the better, but applying with a young character does not necessarily lower your chances.

・Realistically speaking, a character who is not overbearingly rude for no reason has better chances of being picked IC-wise. I am more than willing to plot out ways for those kinds of cats to be chosen though, so don't get too discouraged if your character is like that!

・Experience requirements for this position are rather lax, but loyalty and at least some degree of devotion to the Clan are necessary.

  • Not too deterred from all this yapping? GREAT! Come join me in the shadows, I'd love to have a partner in crime sometime soon. <3

Please fill out this form if you are interested!

Character: @SALAMANDERSNAP
Term: Long preferred, but open to short term !!

Reasons for Applying (IC):
↪ some of these would reflect plots i have in mind and don't want to go into too much detail about some of them (but dm me and we can discuss!)
↪ realistically, despite her colder personality, salamandersnap is a devoted and loyal shadowclanner who would go out of her way for the safety and well being of the clan. while she may butt heads with most of her clanmates (including mirepurr(star) ), she will do her best to ensure that the clan are loyal shadowclan followers as well, and are strong and capable warriors. she loves her clan and clanmates, and wants what is best for all of them, even at the cost of her life (just as others do). she is not the type to blindly charge into a situation, preferring to analyze and ensure the best steps are taken given the situation. she would not outwardly put the clan at risk.

Reasons for Applying (OOC):
↪ I am active both on site & the discord and am always trying to plot/include others!
↪ I am willing to put in the behind the scenes work that goes into being deputy, as well as working alongside the rest of the hp team!
↪ I am open to constructive feedback as I learn the ropes of being the deputy on TT! Both from the hp staff and the rest of the clan!

Anything Else?
↪ this is a hesitant application due to the lack of having an ic apprentice so far, but would still appreciate being considered for the fun of it !
↪ i don't want to give too much away with the application, however, feel free to dm me and we can discuss things privately !!
↪ i do have some plots in mind surrounding her becoming deputy + lack of an ic apprentice that we could discuss as well !!
↪ i also have some ideas for things like plot events/clanwide activities that we could maybe put to use as well !
↪ i appreciate the consideration !! you're doing amazing so far !! <3

Character: @Snowlark.
Term: Long
Reasons for Applying:
IC:
Snowlark is highly loyal to Shadowclan and cares a lot for the clan. Although he is quite young,
he will quickly learn and adapt to such a position. Although he would be awkward in it for the
first few times due to his inexperience, he would watch Mirepurr and what they do and take on
the same qualities they have as a leader. Snowlark is ambitious, yet he doesn't let that cloud
him and puts Shadowclan before himself. However for him to be able to become deputy,
Mirepurr will have to give him an apprentice which will add to the awkwardness of the situation.
He already works well with Mirepurr and cares about the other deeply. Despite not having the
best relationship with some Shadowclanners, Snowlark tends to be respectful to his clanmates
and even reaches out to lend a paw.
Note: Snowlark might not immediately accept the deputy positioning right away, even if Mirepurr
asks as Snow will feel awkward due to being young and inexperience. Which could be 100%
built on if someone with a short-term plot is chosen. However, if Mirepurr were to later again ask
Snowlark to stand by Mirepurr's side he would agree the second time around as he'd have a
little bit more confidence in himself.
OOC:
I am active in the discord, and can guarantee 15+ posts with Snowlark!
I have a huge love for Shadowclan and its community and would love to see where and how it is
shaped with Mirepurr as leader :3
Snowlark has been my longest-played character! November would mark him as being around
for a year so there will be no need to worry about going inactive
Anything Else?:
Good luck to anyone who applies!!

Character: @scalejaw
Term: Either length!
Reasons for Applying:
IC:
Scalejaw is a dependable cat- she's merciless on the battle field and deeply loyal to her home, and despite the chilled nature outside of camp, inside camp and with other Shadowclanners, she's warm- maternal like, with a strict streak. She was from the Marsh Colony, witnessed the Great Battle, and all four leaders (most recently,) in Shadowclan. She's acted as an advisor to a good handful of warriors, and Mirepurr/star themselves, she was a mentor to and knows them very well. (How could she forget when she shaped them into a warrior?)

On another note, Scalejaw is notably civil and respectful to other clans, until she knows the line is crossed. This is noted in threads where other clans came to visit the graves on Shadowclan territory from the yellowcough/rogue thread, or in passing with other patrols. Level-headed, but she does not trust them as far as she can throw them. Defensible. She has the age and experience of a warrior long-tested by Shadowclan and the plights surrounding it, and would readily accept the helm if it was offered to her.

OOC: While I haven't been the most active in Shadowclan just before this post (though I have in the past,) Scalejaw has been around for a while, and I am consistently active in the community- be it discords or Tabbytales as a whole. She has mentored two cats, and I have a good grip on roleplaying her. I have expierence elsewhere in running in a HP position, the longest in a guild on WoW as an officer over 30-40 people, and staff on another site (as well as lead warrior for ~6 months in Thunderclan!) I've never played a deputy and would love the opportunity to learn, even if I don't get to keep the position!

That being said, having Mire promote Scale for an inbetween or 'temporary' deputy while they settle on a more permanent choice is a fun plot I'm willing to play out/just really came to mind, but it makes sense in my head. I'm okay playing short-term for whatever reason! I'm also okay with longer-term as well, so no worries either way <3
Anything Else?: Good luck to everyone!! (also karmen ily you're doing so good)

Character: @MAPLETUFT
Term: Preferably long, but would not mind a short-term plot
Reasons for Applying: teehee

ICLY, whilst Mapletuft is a newer character, I adore her & shes here for the long-term (as well with multiple backwritten relations that has helped integrate her in to the clan). She has also been backwritten to have trained salamandersnap & acorntail, so she will have had apprentices in the past, just not currently! She's very level-headed and I think her patient & nurturing nature would be something that could play well with shadowclans environment; and her paranoia an even better thing to bounce off of. Mapletuft is 52 moons, which means she has seen the rise and fall of all of the leaders, and whilst not born in the marsh group like most older kitties, she brings nothing but the love from the pine group! :-) I think it'd be fun for her to naturally gravitate towards Skyclan due to this.

OOCLY I have had both a medicine cat + a lead warrior on the site & I do understand leadership responsibilities (though, just being honest, I would need a bit of help with IC deputy responsibilities since i've never played a deputy on such a wide-scale site). I've been around for a while and whilst (also just being honest LOL) my activity has been spotty, my job has FINALLY given me a set two days off in a row so I will ALWAYS be seen monday-tuesday if not during the week as shown in the recent weeks :3

SHORT-TERM wise, I can see her only taking the position to support mire :-( In all honesty, I can see her just blindly agreeing to make them happy & then psyching herself out because shadowclan leaders also have like. terrible luck. and she'd be afraid it'd be passed to her! it's one thing to watch mirestar take the mantle, its another to have both of them do so! it'd be something she could no longer support on the sidelines when shes on the frontlines.

Anything Else?: GOOD LUCK!! IM SO EXCITED TO SEE THE NEXT DEPUTY & ERA OF SHADOW.. :D

Character: @Maggotfur.
Term: Long or Short
Reasons for Applying:
Maggotfur has always been an ambitious cat since the moment she was fully aware of what it meant to be a shadowclanner - her eyes and aims always set high. Her lofty goals stem from a place of both affection and loathing for her home - the idea that shadowclan is broken, and that she could do a far better job of 'fixing' it if given the chance. Throughout her life, she's worked to cement her place within the ranks - confident in her skills in battle and hunting, even if her people skills are oft lacking. She has fought for her clan in numerous battles, and has trained two apprentices even if not fully. But with change after change rocking her foundation, she flounders. Those close to her die one after another, leaving her bereft - and a single nights mistake leaves her a parent. She blames her pregnancy for ruining her plans, but dotes upon her children anyways - moons of sucking up to a building repertoire with smogstar ruined by the fact she can hardly do her warrior duties let alone take on more. Still, she thinks that certainly, someday it will be her turn. And then, in the midst of her own struggles, Smogstar disappears an shadowclan is once more thrown to chaos. Recovering from her litter, conversations with starlingheart lead to INFORMATION REDACTED, and already the molly is making her first request of the deputy now thrown into leadership - INFORMATION REDACTED. With this change seems to come a change of character - no longer as closed off from her clanmates as she once was. It seems motherhood has changed her for the better.
★ With multiple perma-queens available to kit-sit and her litter already weaned, Maggie is not above directly pushing to take on more duties - being pregnant didn't stop her from working and even attending gatherings, so she sees no reason why her kits would hold her back from being deputy.
★ With the events above, a more human side of Maggie seems to have been revealed - while still often a bit blunt she's taken notably more interest in interacting with others, from sharing tongues and prey with her clanmates to joking around more often.
★ Notably close to Starlingheart, while not particularly attached to the rest of the council she will likely give the medicine cats words more weight then she might the others, allowing for her more impulsive or violent ideas to be more easily swayed.
★ While an abrasive cat, Maggotfur has always been careful not to make enimies out of her clanmates for no reason - instead maintaining an aloof and sarcastic persona. She can count the cats she actually loathes one one paw - everyone else simply a nonentity to her. She is far from the most likable cat, but is fully capable of gritting her teeth and playing along n order to do what's best for shadowclan - or, to get her way in general.
★ Holds strong opinions on the dynamics of shadowclan, both internally and with the other clans. champion for the weak, likely to be a shocking voice of reason on matters concerning abuse of power from mentors or parents as she believes it is the duty of a warrior to protect those weaker and less experienced from unnecessary harm.
Maggotfur is a character i have planned out and played for a long time - nearly two full years onsite, as well sas previously on another site. I am very confident in my muse for her, as while it fluctuates she is a character near and dear to my heart and activity wise is second only to Periwinklebreeze on my roster. ICly she is a very ambitious cat with her sights set on the deputy (and leader) position so whether long-term or short it makes sene that she'd at least try to fight her way to her goal, regardless of how successful.
★ I am not the most experienced HP, but I have held both deputy and leadership roles on other sites. I am extremely comfortable and confident with my ability to attend to IC duties, and more then willing to learn and grow with OOC duties. In the two+ years since TabbyTales was first being made/discussed, I feel i've learned and grown a lot with other users help - learning to use discord and be more open oocly has been a long process that I genuinely attribute to all the amazing users here onsite, going from knowing nothing about it at all to being able to do LW tasks in WC. Admittedly discord tasks/communications still continues to be my weak point but I am fairly active so far and hope to continue to learn and grow for as long as I remain onsite.
★ Maggotfur is here for the long run - and will remain a prioritized character holding a 'main character' position. Should she be picked as deputy, it should be noted that INFORMATION REDACTED.
★ Given that this is mainly inspired by her ic ambitions and flaws, I have ideas for both a short-term and long-term deputyship for Maggotfur. These are separate scenarios/situations, depending on which is chosen.

Short-Term: Despite her seeming confidence, Maggotfur is still shaken by her grief and the changes to her life. Armed with INFORMATION REDACTED she expects things to change for the better - except, they don't. She struggles to truly connect with her other council members, and with attention split between motherhood and her duties she finds herself quickly overwhelmed. She's bitten off more then she can chew, and stress leaves her strained and irrational
★ It is likely that if this path is taken, she will be talked into stepping down. It will not be any one specific thing that costs her her goals but the culmination of all the little things. Will have back and forth bouts of good decision making followed by poor or impulsive choices, focusing on the wrong tasks, forgetfulness, etc.
★ May lean heavily into her obsession with threes, perhaps three strikes and your out

Long-Term: A new leash on life. It seems her expectations hold true, as INFORMATION REDACTED all but thrives in her role. While far from the most approachable cat, she puts her logic and cunning to good use - strategically plotting out patrols and training, and keeping a watchful eye on even the smallest goings on around camp. Her seemingly apathetic exterior is beholden to a shockingly caring and empathetic interior - while her methods may seem like madness to others, she pushes for growth and betterment for the marshland clan in her own way.
★ extremely likely to push from changes in training methods, such as requiring claws to be sheathed and vetting certain mentors before giving them apprentices. during the three leaderships she's lived through, she's witnessed multiple cases of mentors mistreating their apprentices and would likely wish to take more direct actions in preventing such scenarios.
★ as time passes is likely to open up more to her clanmates, slowly tearing down her self imposed walls - she will never be the most expressive or friendly cat, but holding a position of authority lends her the sense of trust and responsibility she needs to feel more at ease.

Full Biography
★ qualified for the IC requirement with the new code, has trained two played apprentices
Anything Else?: DM'ing the full version/extra info + good luck to everyone! Hope everyone finds my silly classified form funny

Character: @Willowburn
Term: Short (though open to long if things go that way)
Reasons for Applying:
ICly, Willowburn is a fairly power hungry cat deep down, so gaining an opportunity to ascend the ranks would provide a good outlet for his personal development (both positively and negatively). He's always been friendly towards other clans, meaning that he's not likely to go seeking trouble, so could be dependable during discussions with the neighbours. He's chatty and willing to speak his mind, so certainly wouldn't hide his thoughts from Mirepurr/star. Nor would he hesitate to interact with the clan or handle difficult situations. Willowburn is pretty level headed, though can be lazy and may use such a position as to evade harder work. He may also attempt to talk over Mirepurr/star, leading to tension as he may try to act like the leader himself, which could lead to trouble.

OOCly, I unfortunately have no experience playing any HP on TT, so I won't deny that I might be shaky at first. But I am keen to try and it would be a great motivation for me to get stuck in more with the game and in the community via Discord. Although I might not post everyday, I am always watching the site and reading through posts so can jump in on threads that require prompt attention, same for any messages on Discord.
Anything Else?: Good luck to everyone! <3

Reactions: PUNK
Character: @FERNDANCE
Term: Preferably long, though with collaborative plotting, I can figure something out for short!
Reasons for Applying:
OOCly, I believe I am pretty compatible with what ShadowClan would want in a Deputy. As you probably know (sorry Karmen /lh), I’m pretty open about communicating with questions and am very comfortable handing concerns and criticisms, as well as discussing them if I believe there’s a problem with something. Whilst it has not happened on this site yet, I have had leaders on previous extended-RP sites and have been very open to feedback and changing things as a result of this feedback (one site had an issue with a bloated guide, which I very happily spent several hours trimming down and cutting into more digestible pieces with an archive for folks who wanted a more in-depth look).

On Tabbytales, I’ve had two Lead Warrior positions so I know what the expectations are regarding High Positions. Though the Deputy position would be new for me, I’m pretty adaptable and can deal with change and new challenges well enough for me to be confident saying that I can handle it. Aside from a brief stint last year, I have been consistently active during my 2 years of Tabbytales, with Ferndance reaching more than 15 posts a month on many occasions and myself trying to remain active in ShadowClan’s discord as best as I can. I pretty much don’t leave the plotting channel alone whenever I’m free and try to engage with people in character channels whenever I have the social energy for it.

As for why I want to apply, I think it would bring me a lot of development opportunities for Fern that otherwise lack impact if she were to remain a warrior. Plus, I have a lot of love for ShadowClan and want to do everything in my power to see it become a thriving little community :-)

Ferndance is a long-term character in ShadowClan, having been around since the first week of its creation in-character and almost two years out-of-character. She has had two apprentices reach warriorhood (Wormwatcher and Laurelgrin) and an extra two she has helped train in some capacity before an incident (Wolfpaw and Honeymoon) which aligns with the expectations of the newest warrior code! As a character, her skillset mainly revolves around hunting and tracking. Within fights, she pretty much always goes for the kill due to a more druidic mindset that believes that, within destruction, comes rebirth. It has helped her remain fairly upbeat in a moody clan.

Ferndance has previous knowledge of being a Lead Warrior and, when she is available, she is often chosen to lead patrols which suggests some level of authority in the group (or at least, trust to get things done). She will do what she needs to do and, after becoming a mother and finding her place within ShadowClan, will be much more sensible giving out orders and ideas than she has been previously. However, she is still likely to retain that lighthearted whimsy that makes Fern Fern: patrols will go out, but some of them may have some interesting stipulations!

As stated in previous applications she’s fiercely protective of the clan’s youth after becoming a mother herself. She would be pretty adamant and consistent about keeping up safeguarding measures in place to protect apprentices and young ones from the seemingly inevitable harm that comes with being a ShadowClanner. Under Mirestar, she is likely to suggest bold ideas and actions and would have little qualms with adding her voice to the decision-making process like before. She is, after all, a very confident cat. Perhaps too confident. It's not a position she'd be shocked or humble about accepting even if she didn't show any outright ambition for it.

I’ve got some in-character pros and cons of Fernputy that can be considered for potential conflicts if she is chosen:

Advantages:
• Strong-willed and able to make difficult choices.
• Knowledgable of rogues/loners.
• Competent hunter with solid foundational knowledge of prey.
• Well-established in ShadowClan.
• Has previous experience in authority.

Disadvantages:
• Utterly shameless.
• Chaotic neutral with chaotic neutral tendencies of rule-following.
• Outwardly teasing or aloof towards other groups.
• More family-orientated than clan-orientated.
• Has a mixed reputation.

The reason why I am more interested in a long-term position is because Fern isn’t really a conventional pick for Deputy due to her reputation as not taking anything seriously. I think her conversations with Mirepurr show that she can be quite sensitive and aware of social dynamics, and her sheer determination to exhaust herself to feed her kids when they were apprenticed at four moons old implies that she would be willing to put a similar effort into looking after ShadowClan if they needed her for it. It’s these little glimpses of potential that a leader figure might see in her that can be brought to light with a position, but I think it’d only get a chance to be explored with a more long-term Deputyship.

Anything Else?: Good luck to everyone else who's applying! <3

Character: @FLINTWISH
Term: Short
Reasons for Applying:

ICLY Flintwish is historically a character who struggles with his loyalty to ShadowClan and has suffered much misfortune. For much of his life, he felt shunned by ShadowClan for a whole host of reasons — between taking an extra dose of lungwort, being Granitepelt's son, and his uniquely terrible relationship with Smogstar, ShadowClan has never been a Clan that Flintwish has belonged in. But in the wake of Granitepelt's death, things are looking up.

Now Flintwish is on a mission to turn his life around. It's not that he's made a mess of it, per se, but he wants to make the effort to invest in ShadowClan, especially a new ShadowClan. Smogstar gave him one piece of real advice before disappearing: to set his sights on a worthwhile cause. What better way to honor that advice in the wake of Smogstar's disappearance than strive for the same star-blessing he received?

I am a little desperate for some fortune in Flintwish's life / like... a sign for him that things are truly looking up not just with one cat but with the entire Clan. NOT THAT everyone would have to rejoice for him but I think the experience of being picked for deputy would really highlight all of Flintwish's strengths AND shortcomings, which I would like for him to be confronted with.

He's resilient, making an effort to be kinder, and wants to do a good job to make himself and others proud. But he's also insecure, has a short temper, and quick to assume the worst of others — which I think would make him a great pick for a temporary deputy. This would not just be a journey of self-discovery for Flintwish, but could also be a journey for Mirepurr to realize what they do or don't want in their deputy. But I think if Flint's efforts are recognized and he is demoted knowing he just has some growing to do, it could be a great point for him to grow that much more as a warrior, mentor, ShadowClanner, and mate.

As a note these ideas are generally focused around characters already in Flint's life, but if chosen I will be sure to expand them to interact with ShadowClan as a whole!

— Flintwish and Mirepurr are not particularly close, but they have a decent amount in common. They were both trained by Scalejaw, and maybe Mirepurr has a bleeding heart for Flintwish, who they would know has been wracked by misfortune for nearly his whole life. But they would also know that his life is on the upward swing; they were one of the few cats in ShadowClan to congratulate him and Ashenfall on being mates. I also know that they both harbor some bitterness towards Smogstar — something they will both feel guilty about. I think that whether they are working through this bitterness (Flint will want to for Ashen's sake) or commiserating in it, there is a lot for them to yap about even aside from future leader / deputy responsibilities. I plan on invading ur DMs for potential plots later....

— I ALSO think picking a child of Granitepelt, especially the one that is his carbon copy in all but personality, as a deputy would be very subversive. Flint would appreciate it as a show of trust and renewal, as this is one of the things he is most deeply insecure about, but I also think it could play very interestingly at gatherings / across Clans (I hope I am not over-exaggerating the importance of his looks LOL). Flintwish holds a LOT of bitterness especially for WindClan which could be a point of contention between him and Mirepurr; he would def be quick to act against WindClan and distrust them, which could provide interesting cross-clan conflict, or at least drama among the council.

— Relating to his family, I also would love to plot something with Deja about how Ghostmask would feel about Flint's deputyship. I also think Flintwish being deputy puts him in a precarious position as a brother; Ghostmask is relentless in her crusade against ShadowClan, but she is still family. Flintwish loved Granitepelt to the bitter end, even if he hated him more, and his feelings towards Ghostmask would be no different. I think this could certainly portend inaction at an opportune moment; he would never have the heart to harm his only remaining littermate, no matter what good it would do.

OOCLY As for me, while I have never played an HP on TabbyTales, I have been in leadership positions ICly and OOCly on similar hobby sites. I think that this short-term deputy plot would be a fun way to dip my toes in and understand the responsibilities of the leadership track on TT without having to commit to the whole term :- )

Anything Else?: I am definitively NOT applying for the long-term position, but in order for Flint to not fall apart upon his demotion I would love to semi-rigorously plot the circumstances of his demotion / stepping down if he is chosen for the short-term plot! I also recognize that my activity with Flint has been spotty, but I would certainly prioritize him over my other consistently active characters if chosen <3 Also not sure if Flint technically meets the new code requirement? He has an apprentice (Branchpaw) but hasn't trained them to completion yet, so I'm not sure if that makes him ineligible

CHARACTER @Swansong
TERM: Either!
REASONS FOR APPLYING:
IC
  • Mirepurr has always been out of place in ShadowClan, far too kindly for their jaded ranks. Their leadership represents a new direction for the Clan: one of prosperity and care. And who better to accompany them than Swansong? She is one of the few to retain her gentleness despite the harshness of marsh-life, a tranquil and comforting figure amidst the tide of change. She promises to bring peace. There is little that ShadowClan needs more.
  • Though young, Swansong will quickly prove both herself hardy and mature. The loss of two family members is taken in stride, even as it clearly grieves her. In fact, she seems to become more motivated to help her clan recover in the face of it. Behind the languid sleepiness, Mirepurr recognizes a capable and collected warrior. (And perhaps, one not likely to start problems that they cannot handle. ShadowClan does not need more enemies, and Swansong does not seem inclined to make them.)
  • Swansong never wanted to rule. She never wanted much of anything, truthfully. Ambition was left to her father, to her sister - and now both are gone. Who is left to carry on their legacy? Either could have been the greatest leader that the clan had ever seen... If only they had not been taken so soon. She knows that she must right this wrong, even if it burdensome. And so, she draws closer to the leader, takes charge where she previously was lax. She must ensure that ShadowClan prospers, even in her father's absence.
  • The stars have made Swansong into their vessel. She acts in their image, her every action guided by their will (or so she believes). They called her to the path of a medicine cat, but her fate was denied by the insolence of mortals. She seeks the stars now through a different route, claims her birthright with grasping claws. Deputy suits her far better than she could have every expected.
  • Swansong's physical capabilities are lacking in comparison to her clanmates, that much is clear to anyone. Her asthma holds her back, her tiredness more fatigue than benign sleepiness. And yet despite this, her mind is sharp. A skilled diplomat first and foremost, she excels in mediation. More than that, Mirepurr is able to recognize - she has an eye for strategy. She takes naturally to political affairs, her skills better suited to leadership than to the more physical role of a warrior.
OOC
  • I love ShadowClan ‼️ They're my favorite band of weirdos and the lower activity level compared to other clans has always made me feel more comfortable here. I feel like Swan could make for an interesting deputy, cunning and strange in the way of ShadowClan, but still a breath of fresh air from the angsty atmosphere. A dose of lightness while still keeping the clan unique. With the eventual descent into evil of course, but not as outwardly dour as ShadowClan has been for a long time.
  • Swansong is my longest actively played character (sunf doesn't count, I basically dropped them for a while), having been created back in May of 2023. I have no plans to ever drop her, and aim to keep my activity up consistently. Though there have been times when I've gotten spotty with her (gestures at the last two months), I have faith that I can keep up with her long-term. I can easily make 15+ posts per month, and will prioritize her above my other characters if chosen.
  • I have some experience with HP duties, having previously played an MCA! Deputy would certainly be a learning experience, but I'm more than willing to learn!!
ANYTHING ELSE?:
  • Swansong's belief that her actions are star-driven will lead her to some... More questionable actions. Her delusions of grandeur will only grow with her power, and she will begin to abuse her position.
  • As an advisor to the leader, she will take advantage of Mirepurr's uncertainty in the first moons of their leadership to begin manipulating them. All in what she believes to be the clan's best interest, of course. She is only relaying what the stars have told her, what Smogstar would have wanted. She will serve as a sort of scheming advisor, whispering in the king's ear to ensure that things turn out her way.
  • Convinced that she is the only one who truly knows how to lead the clan, Swansong will begin undermining other council members subtly, spreading rumors and framing others. She will position herself as a beacon of hope, gathering a following of clanmates.
  • They see themself as a caretaker of the dead. A ghost upon earth, they serve as a medium between the stars and mortals. Eventually, they twist this - they become the arbiter of life and death. Clanmates begin turning up dead, and it is easy to blame anyone but the true culprit. Swansong is harmless, after all.
  • The breaking point would be an attempt on Mirestar's life. Swansong decides to finally step up and rule - but she needs to get the leader out of the way for that. She tries to stage it as an accident - or frame another clanmate - and Mirestar quickly puts the pieces together. Swansong is exiled, an enemy to the clan.
  • A long-term deputy Swansong is one who handles her rise to power more gracefully - or at least, hides her scheming better. She would be more subtle with her manipulation, more akin to how her father was. Slowly building up a following, undermining council members when she disagrees with them - but hiding it well. In this case, her descent would come gradually, not truly being expressed until leadership. She would be more docile as deputy, following her leader's commands and lying in wait.
  • Swansong would at this point become a truly trusted advisor, spending her time as deputy refining her intellect and skills in negotiation. She would attempt to make good impressions with the other clans, assisting in strategic matters when needed. She may grow to see the use of violence as a tool in light of Mirepurr's hesitance, learning when to step up when needed. I would focus during her time as deputy on her slow learning process of becoming more leaderly and competent, as well as building relationships (and a following) among her clanmates.
  • This is kind of out there but... a plot where she actually kills Mirestar would be fun. Or more likely with a slower descent, leaves them to die - keeping an incapacitated Mirestar company while not seeking help, convinced that their death is a sign that her time as leader has come. Obviously you don't have to go with this but the idea wouldn't leave my head so I wanted to toss it out there.
  • Leadership will only fuel all of Swansong's delusions. A direct line to StarClan is all that she craves, and the validation of leadership will only convince her that her every move is divine. Dying again and again is a curse that she is well prepared for, and she finds that it suits her; she has already died once, after all.
  • She will have learned well by this point how to mask her more sinister impulses, a refined and peaceable leader with a strange sort of faith. I can see Swanstar being generally well-liked, with few seeing the darker side of her and fewer believing it.
  • I will begin Swanstar's reign with an ending in mind. When I am ready for her to leave, things will begin to fall apart. Those who oppose her will begin going missing, and her grip on normalcy will begin to slip. She will become completely detached from reality, with a similar ending as the short-term deputy position. In this case, she would most likely be killed by her clan.
  • I do not plan to drop Swansong ever (unless her story reaches a natural conclusion) so I'm very down for leadership!! I'm also down to start as short-term and see how things go before deciding whether to stick with long-term or not :]
  • These plot ideas are just outlines, and I'm open to changes - and of course, more plots along the way!! I'm very flexible and like to play as I go :3
  • GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!! MWAH MWAH <3

Reactions: PUNK
Term: Long
CHARACTER: @SHARPSHADOW

Reasons for Applying:

ICly, there are almost certainly choices for Mirestar's deputy that are more orthodox than Sharpshadow. He has a somewhat shaky history — having been a later than late warrior. His social skills leave quite a bit to be desired. He comes across as generally negative a majority of the time, both jokingly and genuinely. He can be prone to outbursts if someone says the wrong thing to him...

But beneath all of that is a deep — and i believe, undeniable care for ShadowClan and its future. While Sharpshadow is keen to make comments at her Clan's expense, she is always quick to leap into action when needed. His absolute need to be useful to his clan was one instilled the moment she became an apprentice, and though he at times thinks ruefully of this, it is a fate that he has accepted fully at this point. If she is to be a ShadowClanner, she will be the best one she can possibly be, even if it wears her down to the bone.

Sharpshadow likely wouldn't be the most professional deputy ever... Even as a Lead Warrior, he pretty much views himself at the bottom of the food chain, and feels a bit odd exorcising any power over others. In high-stress situations though, it comes more easily to him. Highly conscious of the past, he is extremely vigilant when it comes to keeping track of his clanmates and fiercely upholding rules in place for others safety. ( Perhaps even a little too fiercely, but it makes it evident how much he cares )

Having felt quite miserable growing up, today, Sharpshadow is quite dedicated to making things better for the future generations of ShadowClan — even if she does not often ( perhaps, even rarely ) succeeds. A main trait of his is wishing he could be something different, do something different, but feeling as if he does not have the ability to. he believes he lacks the power too, and not only in the literal ranking sense, but feeling as if he as a person leaves much to be desired in terms of this. As a character that very deeply struggles with her sense of worth, desire to bring change to the world, want to both live up to the legacy of her former Leaders whilst simultaneously seeking desperately not to make the same mistakes they had, being put in this position would thrust Sharpshadow's character into very new and exciting places for me! I think her rise from a complete flop emo apprentice to Deputy would be kind of incredible of her ICly, and it's a realization that he would have himself, later into his deputyship.

Having lived under every ShadowClan Leader to date ( Though her experience with Briarstar is backwritten ), Sharpshadow lives with ShadowClan's history in mind on a day-to-day basis. He is always thinking of the how, when, what, why, etc. of past events and what the means for ShadowClan, as well as what it may mean for its future, and how she can potentially improve on ( or embody parts of ) its past to carry them forward.

As of a few days ago ( :') ), Sharpshadow is currently my oldest character still alive on TabbyTales! I've played her since a six month old apprentice and over that time I've had a lot of fun exploring and developing her character. She's a character that means a lot to me and I have a lot of fun playing her <3 Any stints of inactivity from her in the past year have been on a site-wide scale that affected all of my characters and never me losing muse for her character in particular.

I'm quite fond of ShadowClan's IC environment and have been pretty much since its inception :) It has some of the most interesting history to me of all the Clans and I would love to continue narrative through a character that, I believe encompasses much of ShadowClan itself through his actions, past, and character motivations.

♱ I think Sharpshadow and Mirestar have quite a fun dynamic. Their first private & many open interactions have been hilarious to me and I will absolutely be requesting many more regardless of if Sharpshadow is chosen or not. Having a softer-hearted leader alongside a deputy that simultaneously views this as weakness... while also making a (less successful ...) effort at being more kindhearted himself sounds very fun. I can already picture Sharp wanting to say some thing mean so bad and only holding her tongue because she knows Mire will frown at her for it.

♱ Having risen to power so quickly, Sharpshadow is a tad skeptical of Mirestar and does not quite view them in the same way she did Chilledstar or Smogstar. To note: Power structure is very deeply rooted in her and this does NOT mean she would disobey them. This is just to say that I think exploring this mindset from the position of Mirestar's deputy would be super fun!! Funnily enough, Sharpshadow would likely treat Mirestar's choosing of her as more evidence for why they're a little off LMAO. Depending on how things go, I could oversee an improvement of her opinion on Mirestar coinciding w improvement of her own self image for that reason!!

♱ Sharpshadow and Smogstar's relationship was one that I held very near and dear to me, and both ICly and OOCly I would love to encompass his memory through following in his footsteps this way. His disappearance is absolutely going to haunt Sharpshadow for the rest of his life, and Smogstar's ghost will (metaphorically) be looming over his shoulder at all times.

♱ I'm honestly not sure if Sharpshadow would even accept right away, but following an " are you sure??? " private with Mirestar (and maybe a brief crisis), she would convince herself to w Mire's help!

Thank you for the opportunity! Smooching all of you
