private SHE HAD A FIRE INSIDE \ gigglepaw

Gigglepaw does not have visible wounds, but Marblepaw now knows that the depth of wounds she cannot see can be egregious. Her cousin's tail droops, drags in the dust, and the shimmer in her approachable gaze has dimmed to nothing. Since Needledrift had been borne home atop her Clanmates' backs, Marblepaw's cousins have lost their spark, and Gigglepaw has especially been affected. Her lilac tabby cousin has become a shell of herself; she is a cicada who has shed its body and crawled into the darkness, a mealy, wormy thing.

Marblepaw could not help Gigglepaw's mother; she had tried and failed. But she knows she can do something for Gigglepaw. The medicine cat apprentice's yellow-green eyes are determined when she sets out to find the young she-cat. "Hey! I need to, um... I need to see you in my den," she mews, touching her nose gently to her kin's shoulder. "I want to check on those scratches."

She won't take no for an answer — any protests Gigglepaw might put out are promptly ignored. Marblepaw leads her cousin into Starlingheart's den. It's quiet; her mentor is preoccupied with other patients. When Marblepaw turns to Gigglepaw in the gloom, its with resolve. "I... couldn't help your mama, Gigglepaw, but I'm going to help you however I can. Okay? So... tell me what you... what you need, and I'll do whatever I can to... to get it for you." Her lower jaw trembles, but she does not let her words waver. "If there's an herb that will help, I'll spend all day looking for it. I swear it by StarClan."
