The morning had dawned hot, one of the warmest of newleaf so far, and Riffleheart was more than happy to take advantage. Recent events meant that he couldn't use Sunningrocks, of course, but the river beckoned, and he had trekked out of camp before many of his Clanmates had gotten up. Before long, the blue tabby tom had slid into the cool water and was currently draped over a stepping-stone, his long legs sprawled over the warm rock and his paws and tail dangling in the water. Turning his verdant green eyes upward, Riffleheart watched fat clouds chase one another through the bright blue sky, and was unable to keep a purr from rumbling out. Despite their troubles, despite the audacity of other Clans, despite the difficult memory of Howlingstar's face just inches from his and bestowing mercy upon him...it was difficult to feel sorrow or anger on a day like this. He was healthy, the river ran strong, the air was fresh; he could not help but feel joy and contentment deep in his heart. The older tom rolled over and showed his pale belly to the sun's rays, grumbling happily as water lapped over his pink paw-pads and the heat warmed his fur.

Sun-warmed, the waters were very relaxing this time of year- and oddly enough, this time of morning. What had started an early-morning pebble hunt had become a dip in dawn-kissed waters, and Fernpaw was very much relishing the only thing he was remotely talented at. He was glad he'd forgiven the river for coveting his vast collection, because it really did feel like his home. Second nature, was swimming... the water embraced him like an old friend, and he'd always managed to move through it with ease, with scale-gleam gracefulness. He could do it with his eyes closed! Paddling, feeling the spindrift as his paws broke the surface...

Aquamarine eyes creaked open, and- illuminated silver-gold by the sun glow, that was Riffleheart, wasn't it? "Oh! Sorry if I splashed you," called the flame-striped tom apologetically, surprise a glimmer in his eyes. Maybe it was stupid not to ae predicted the fact that there'd be someone else around the river, but- he'd never been much good at forethought, had he?
