Their travel to Shadowclan's border had been cut off by a major...inconvenience. Before reaching the Thunderpath, smoke had stopped the patrol. Upon investigation, they had discovered a monster that appeared to have tried to eat a tree. Smokefur had considered just calling off the border patrol, but solely because of his patrol member's complaining, he had made the call to continue. Instead, he made them take the long way around.

The Thunderpath was abnormally busy today. His heart fluttered anxiously each time one roared by, but he was determined to look as stern faced as normal. "Hurry up. We wasted enough time back there already." His orders were short and cold, and he waited for them to obey before turning to mark a nearby tree. Should any Shadowclanners try to make conversation, they would be met with a silent and unwelcoming glare. This was his first time leading a patrol, and after many patrols where his clanmates wasted unnecessary time small talking, he wasn't going to allow much of it.

Being led by a younger warrior was already embarrassing enough. It's even harder to have to obey his command, time and time again - the boy is so short-tempered, with such waning patience, its a wonder he's still standing long enough to mark the border.

Badgerstripe holds her tongue. She has to. Even as aggression begs to be let loose - as her temper flares higher than usual, no doubt caused by the arrogant child that leads them. Of course, she had advocated to continue their border patrol as Skyclaw himself suggested, and so the other Clans don't suspect something is amiss - but besides that, she remains utterly silent, save for the angry steam that may as well be blowing straight out of her ears. Within, she wishes she had been a part of Sleekserpent's patrol instead, who'd be much kinder to her.. perhaps it was a punishment to keep them separated today.

Paying no heed to Smokefur's request to skip the talk - for she is teaching, she will so adamantly defend if need be - Badgerstripe leans her head down to her apprentice. " This is your first time meeting ShadowClan, so we must give a good impression, " she warns @Scarletpaw, who trails closely behind her. They must give a good impression anyway; she's sure her life depends on it. " They are led by Smogstar now. Maybe you'll have the pleasure of meeting him. " Not that she can really attest to it being a pleasure - she's never met Smogstar either. But, she remembers being excited to meet the other leaders as an apprentice, even if none of them were particularly impressive. " Stay close, though. The Thunderpath is.. unusually busy today. They don't typically stray off their path, but you cannot be too careful. " It had shaken her to her core, seeing a monster off its' path to attack a tree. She can only hope it was a one time occurrence - and that their honorable patrol leader will not lead them towards danger.

( ooc ) text

A patrol. Something she hardly wanted to participate in, dragging paws and discarded glances to the underbrush as they pass. What was the point, she mulled? Everytime her mind began to stray, to drop away, to question why are we here?, she remembered three, pinched and feral faces within the nursery. She remembers her sister's blurry vision, the guilt on her other sibling's face.

Resolute. She must be resolute, for things would change. A long, slow breath followed as she straightened up before they came across the monster eating a tree, something she flattened her ears at and kept her distance from. But, like Badgerstripe, she insisted on continuing, noting that if they don't, they'd lose territory. And they would- probably not from Shadowclan, but she was all but sure Riverclan would bite at a chance for Sunningrocks again.

Her ear twitched as the fellow warrior began to instruct, and it.. almost felt normal. The forest wasn't dark, Howlingstar was around, and she could almost believe that she had a piece of prey in her jaws to give to the kits in the nursery. Belief didn't get her far, though, and a long breath left her as she dutifully marked a tree, flank brushed along it.

[ ༻❄༺ ] The thunderclan patrol was surely...quiet today aside from one teaching what seemed like a newly appointed apprentice about Shadowclan and the thunderpath. Yellow gaze examines the patrol coolly with a fictive raised brow. Normally they were chattier than this. "Awfully quiet" he remarked the patrol with his blunt words, watching as a monster drove across the thunderpath making the young warrior shift back a bit more while his hackles raised a bit. Guess Thunderclan would not be in the mood for their normal chatter today, which was quiet... strange for the clan in his opinion. Never once had they been this...quiet. "When they do stray from the path, they'll try to snatch you up and eat you" he remarked, pointing his attention to the only speaking warrior with the apprentice, hopefully, he'd get something from the patrol today.

Glowingpaw is good at keeping her head down - at staying quiet, never causing a fuss. It is not fear that stays her paws, but releif - a choice taken from her paws before she ever had to make it. She knows that what is happening is not good - is not rght, and yet it is far easier to say nothing then to admit what she has done. To admit that her friend - stars, she doesn't even have another - had tried to kill howlingstar. That skyclaw had succeeded in ding just that.

Apricot pointed paws plod along, keeping up well despite a few stumbles here and there - she does not know if she will ever grow used to this terrain - and soon enough they arrive at the border. Smokefur seems irritated - tells them to hurry up, and she is quick enough to acquiesce. " Oh... so that's a monster , " she mumbles, more to herself then nay of her patrol mates - her mentor isn't with them today, and she's not particularily close to anyone else either.

જ➶ Shadowclan is known for many things. Slithering little snakes in the ground, those that started the Great Battle. Death following them everywhere that they go. The marshes are not a kind place to live and have not changed since the rise of the clans themselves. It's almost desolate and the territory much smaller than most. They often wonder about the short end of the stick that their home received. The stories are easy enough to sit and listen to when they were a mere kit. It's true or at least most of it is and as they decide to slip out of the muck after Snowlark their odd eyes rest upon the little patrol on the other side of the Thunderpath. Hmm. They has to agree with Snow here because they are truthfully quite docile in this moment. It's strange and they tilt their head just slightly as if trying to discern why. Nerves? But they have been here before and many times. Do the monsters still frighten them? Frowning just slightly they shrug their shoulders and them give a small smile.

"Monsters aren't all that scary. But you should be wary of them. They tend to not care about what life they take." It's true, they have seen many other things laid to waste upon the Thunderpath. "How fairs Thunderclan these days? Leaf-fall will soon be here."

Scarletpaw pads along at her mentor's side, eyes narrowed upon the path ahead of them. She had stayed silent when it came to Smokefur wanting to head back, her ears pinning as Badgerstripe pushed to keep going. She silently had agreed with her mentor - it's their duty to patrol the borders no matter the danger, is it not? But Smokefur is one of them, one of the cats her uncle trusts most, so she dares not speak out against him. He's in charge today.

Somehow, they do still manage to reach the thunderpath, and the tortoiseshell finds her fur bristling as monsters roar past her. It's her first time seeing one. Split gaze turns her Badgerstripe as she speaks to her and she gives a dutiful nod, a flick of her tail confirming her acknowledgment. "Alright," She chirps lowly, turning her attention next to the cats that appear on the other side of the loud path. She can hardly hear what they're saying over the roar of the beasts and she sticks close to her mentor's side, knowing it is not her place to speak up.
