These weren't his favorite days- long ones where he was asked to practice his den-weaving, where his paws ached from heading back and forth from the reeds to reinforce the nursery, the elders den. To reinforce their home. Horizonpaw wasn't a huge fan of it, but there was thing he was grateful for- the lack of heat. Steadily it had crept away as greenleaf left and the leaves began to fall, soft and yellow or crunchy and orange. He loved jumping on them when they were on harmless patrols, grinning up at his mentor or whoever else shared in the delight.

But, today, he was stuck in camp, reinforcing the number of dens. He finished with the length of reed he had, stepping back to observe his handiwork. Ears twitched as he glanced towards one of his fellow apprentices- taking care of the nests in the nursery, he thinks- before he speaks to them. "Hey, are you almost done in there? I think..." He opens his mouth, then closes it again. He thinks? Horizonpaw has done something incredible- spoken to someone else first, someone that might not even be family. He clears his throat, trying to ignore the nerves calling from his soul to shut up shut up shut up,

".. 'Think m' almost done here. Could help you." His head ducks, ears burning with the realization of the steps he's taken.

Sunpaw was very used to apprentice chores. Her bad attitude got her an extra dose of them more than once, and pretty frequently too. She wouldn't admit it, but she was actually getting used to keeping her paws as busy as they were with everything. Between the kits and the elders, they were also generally more agreeable company - either too young to know any better, or too old to care and generally more deserving of respect for managing to live as long as they did.

She's not as familiar with Horizonpaw as she is some of the other apprentices; but that's just mostly because she doesn't take that much effort to converse with a lot of them. Most she just knows in passing, or has had the opportunity to talk or interact with before. But Horizonpaw has been pretty quiet, a fact of which she has definitely been enjoying as she's been set to work in the nursey - the kits are loud enough as it is.

"Uh... sure," she calls back when she hears the question. But then she pauses, and pokes her head out briefly, stepping out to assess Horizonpaw's other work before she agrees to that. "I have one more to do after this one so, if you want to just do it we can both get out of here faster," she relents, before she casts a sideways glance at the other apprentice, eyes squinting for a second as she parses the expression on his face. "What? I'm not going to bite you. Jeez."

It's more than common for Sharppaw to be forced with taking upon extra chores not only because of his serrated attitude, but it's also meant to remind him that life doesn't always come down to training and fighting. Often times he has to hold his silver tongue with protests so he wouldn't get more tasks to focus on, steering him further away from his routine interests. It's annoying when he have to do these more than he should when he has to prioritize strengthening himself, but whatever it takes for him to be left alone sooner.

In a corner of the nursery den, Sharppaw's ears flick while he hears Horizonpaw and Sunpaw starting to hold an exchange from the former's offer of help, two in which he isn't well famillar with. He rolls his shoulders to release tension from the tedious repetition and scoffs at Sunpaw's last words. "She does have a sharp tongue that can cut one's ears off, so you better be careful with her," a warning to Horizonpaw that should come across playful, but holds nonchalance when he's trying to den-weave in high effort.

He have a few more areas to work on, but, dammit, his forepaws are too big for this task. Regardless, Sharppaw still tries to add extra reeds to the nursery's protected wall. Though, already forgetting about his great strength from rushing himself out to leave the nursery for self-training, he accidentally pushes the old reeds out from the den before a hole is formed in front of him. Horror sinks deep in Sharppaw at the sight that tells him he's back to square one with this part he had spent too long reinforcing it. His eyes twitch.

"Shit!"

Sharppaw also forgets that they're all in the nursery.

If there's one thing Tanglepaw can do to make himself useful, it is, admittedly, anything that can be done in the comfort of land. Unlike some other apprentices, he does not complain or protest to menial chores; rather, he basks in the break from trying to be pushed to swim, and the moments of alone time that he can savor.

Today is not like the others. There are reinforcements to be made, and he finds himself repairing reed nests in the nursery alongside some of his boisterous denmates - and now, Eveningpaw. He'd spent long enough ignoring the meaningless chatter and gossip from the sharp-tongued apprentices, so while he typically wouldn't mind Eveningpaw's quiet presence joining in, today he meets it with an irritated flick of an ear.

Below his paws, an intricate interwoven nest of reeds, his art. Too distracted by the greetings and snide remark from Sharppaw, Tanglepaw had made a mistake. A small growl rumbles in his throat, but he does well not to let it show - until a grating voice stabs his ears once more, causing him to wince. " Language. " the boy grumbles pointedly, keenly aware of the tendency for kittens to eavesdrop. If the group were to get in trouble, the least he could do for himself is to separate from the bad.

It was not uncommon for a whole group of apprentices to tackle their chores together. Typically, though, there would only be two or three assigned to the same area unless there was a needed reason otherwise. This was part of the reason that, while, yes, they were still assisting with the reinforcement of den walls, Merlinpaw had just chosen... a different den. The elder's den isn't very far from the nursery, so he doesn't have trouble hearing the chatter of the kits asking questions or his denmates sparse conversation. They don't join in, however, at least not at first. Not only because they have nothing to add, but also because... well, these aren't exactly their friends. Merlin doesn't have those purely by choice (trying to understand other cats was a far more exhausting task than you might think), so he doesn't really care much for their talk unless it involves the next chores or whatever.

Strange, then, that as they're weaving in a few more sturdy reeds to a section of the den that bears the most weight, Merlinpaw finds themself pricking their ear to listen to the conversation that arises. He's about to deem it as nothing but idle chatter and refocus on his task when Sharppaw's exclamation draws his curiosity further. What harm would there be in checking out what was going on? ...just let them finish this small section first.

Making their final weaves, Merlinpaw finishes their task and picks up the extra reeds they have left, deciding to bring them over to the nursery in case they were needed there. He drops them by the entrance and pokes his head inside, shifting past Horizonpaw and Sunpaw before going to examine Sharppaw's mistake.

A hole. He'd put a hole in the wall.

Merlin can only blink at the sight. How distracted do you have to be to put a brand new hole in the side of a den? Eyes shifting to glance at the silver bengal for a flash of a second, Merlinpaw says nothing before turning and bringing their extra reeds inside, dropping them at Sharppaw's paws.

"Nice going," they comment in monotone, blinking back to where Tanglepaw is. He'd been the one who scolded Sharppaw's language if their ears had associated the voice to the correct face. They don't actually address the torbie, though, instead stepping back out of the den. "I'll get more reeds," It's only half an offer, half a statement, leaving the act open to others to join them but without forcing anything.

His vision switches to Sunpaw moments before his vision had dropped, ears burning lightly yet- when her retort causes his stomach to flip. He lowered his teeth against his cheek, not quite biting but enough to prick the flesh there. Deep greens shift from her to the den again, mumbling out a quick, "Sorry," before the other apprentices happen along. Sharppaw is still fixing the wall of the den, and he huffs lightly.

"Y-yeah, I think I can help with-" Horizonpaw starts, and the quick but sharp Shit! causes him to almost freeze. Anxiety ticks up but as he peers around to what happened, he can only feel a bit of disappointment. A long breath left him then, and two other apprentices- Merlinpaw and Tanglepaw- both say something to him. Horizonpaw can only stand there for a moment, recounting what he knows about each apprentice before he dare speak or offer help.

Merlinpaw was more like Horizonpaw, if he had to guess. Silent, except when needed, words kept guarded and hidden from the world. His ears twitched briefly, thinking upon that while his mind switched to Tanglepaw. Another... slightly similar to him, but with a sharper and more spiteful tongue. Sunpaw on the other hand was boisterous in how she felt- she left every know, too. Not.. unkind, but opinionated. Truthful. He wasn't sure how he felt about that. Sharppaw... well, the language was enough to speak on how it was.

".. Thank you, Merlinpaw." Horizonpaw says softly, his tail twitching. "Let's get those nests done, yeah, Sunpaw?" He says, putting that smile back on his face as he steps into the den, moving and sorting bad moss for some fresher, raking through it to ensure the good was kept and bad was disposed of.

Language.

Its gaze flickers over Tanglepaw and it doesn't grimace at the waves of negative energy that follow his voice from a few other apprentices nearby. This reminds Sharppaw at how its former peer-aged groupmates would react and respond to its sharp and outburst behaviours: Annoyed, frustrated, disappointed... It's just the same as before. A snort falls from Sharppaw while its tail lash a few times, though, remembering that they are all indeed working at a kit based environment, it simply mutters a blunt apology, "Sorry."

This is one of the reasons why Sharppaw doesn't like doing chores, especially with its peers. It's already difficult enough for it to often initiate interactions that doesn't involve sharp words and actions; in no doubt, more troubles will be made if he was forced to work with others even for mundane duties. Though, it supposes a moment like now means to encourage cooperations and build connections. Sharppaw wonders if it is truly possible to get to work with these RiverClan cats if they can't seem to tolerate its fierce self.

Sharppaw plans to leave the nursery den to get itself more reeds and fix its mistake, however, seeing Merlinpaw have already provided the extras for it by its forepaws, it swipes a few pieces from the pile to reinforce its part of the den again. "Thanks," Either his quiet word is meant to be a form of gratitude for the given reeds or sarcasm to Merlinpaw's monotone comment, both, Sharppaw doesn't think it matters to the other who steps out the den. Hoping this is when everyone else can leave it alone, it focuses on the hole and sighs.

Sharppaw carefully fixes it in tensed silence, only wishing to leave here.
