border stand a little taller - Thunderclan patrol

〕The air was still cool when Flamewhisker and her patrol arrived to the border. It would be awhile before the sun began radiating its awful heat down upon the forest. She was grateful for the shade the trees provided, but the undergrowth seemed to trap the heat within their territory. There had been a time when she had disliked dawn patrols, but with how hot it had been lately, she hadn't heard one complaint about having to wake early. Getting the trip done before the heat of the day was much better than traveling around in the afternoon.

This border had been quite active during her time in the nursery, between Raccoonstripe's trespassing patrol, and a Skyclan apprentice accidentally sharing the news about a secret gathering between them and Riverclan. She could smell a patrol coming, but she wanted to test her daughter's nose. Many moons had passed since she had an apprentice, and even more since she started one out from six moons. "That scent is Skyclan." The deputy said quietly, touching Scorchedpaw's shoulder with her tail tip. "Their leader is Orangestar, and their deputy is Tw-" she stopped, recalling hearing the gossip about a new deputy. "Cherryblossom." The name of Orangestar's daughter felt strange on her tongue. Cherryblossom was close in age to her first borns. "And you have met own of their Medicine Cats, Dawnglare. Fireflyglow is their other."

After her quick lesson, the fiery tabby padded to a nearby tree and rubbed her cheek against it. "Let's get this done quick, before it gets too hot."

a longhaired red tabby with low white and green eyes. flamewhisker's fur is a vibrant hue of red, riddled with thick classic tabby markings. her fur is medium in length, and she has a large, feathery tail. her chest, belly, tail tip, and her paws are dipped white. flamewhisker's eyes are a dark, deep shade of green. her shoulder has a large scar on it from a fight with a dog. she also has a shredded ear from a disagreement with a loner during her time alone before joining thunderclan. on particularly cold days, or sometimes before a major weather change, she will walk with a slight limp from her shoulder injury.

"Flamewhisker!" Orangestar's call comes from the trees, eyes settling upon a familiar form stood far below. Despite her usual air of stoicism, her ears are angled forward attentively. A cautious-looking apprentice stands by her, dappled in ginger and young enough to still be a kit. She recalls the knowledge that ThunderClan's deputy had been nursery-bound - had it really been six moons already? - and wonders privately if the young tortoiseshell at her side is one of her kits. She recognises Palefire, the blue-eyed warrior who had fetched Orangestar to Fourtrees after the eclipse, though the calico at her side is unfamiliar.

"Come down with me, Ashpaw." She meows to the pale-furred apprentice nearby. Her claws are already hooked into the pine bark, a rare show of excitement glimmering in brown eyes. "I'd like you to meet Flamewhisker, the ThunderClan deputy."

It doesn't take her long to reach the forest floor, striding forward towards ThunderClan's border, plumy tail raised in a friendly greeting. Any thoughts of hunting are left behind, instead opting to focus on the reunion with a similarly-minded she-cat. Orangestar doesn't consider herself a cat who has many friends, opting instead to place her trust in a select few rather than forge friendliness with the most possible cats; but Flamewhisker had been a cat of considerable interest to her during the Journey. "You look well. Your kits?"

Palefire paced herself a few tail-lengths behind her patrol-mates, occasionally lifting her head to taste the air as they walked along the Skyclan border. Her thoughts were on a similar train as her deputy's, savouring the early morning coolness while it lasted. The summer heat was miserable under normal circumstances, but her lush fur made it all the more suffocating. She was already dreading her afternoon duties, when the sun was beating down on the forest and making it impossible to find pleasure in being out. Silently she thanked the stars for being placed on a dawn patrol today; saving herself a long walk in the sweltering heat, at least.

Her bushy lilac tail lashed quietly behind her as they marked the trees on their side of the border, idly listening to Flamewhisker explain clan politics to her daughter. "Skyclan is also the only clan that freely welcomes kittypets and rogues into their ranks," she muttered under her breath, no small amount of dusgust in her voice.

How lucky that Flamewhisker was given Scorchedkit- now paw, as an apprentice at this moon's meeting. What would that be like? She wondered... Palefire had never gotten to know her mother or what kind of warrior she was, but something about the idea of having a parent for a mentor made her twitch. She was fortunate to have such a strict mentor in Nightbird; without high expectations, and that level of structure, she would've turned out a lot different. A lot worse, probably. Would her mother have gone easier on her?

She was pulled out of her musings at Flamewhisker's last comment, shaking her fur out to rid herself of memories that never were. "Happily," she replied softly, her sharp blue gaze lingering on the mother-daughter duo for a moment longer before a noise in the brush made her stiffen. The young warrior's head snapped around to the Skyclan side of the border, where a familiar white-and-red figure stepped into their path. Orangestar. She, too, recalled the last few times she'd encountered the scarred leader. The first had been when she was only an apprentice, and Orangestar had still been Orangeblossom. She'd led a patrol to Thunderclan, hunting a fox that had been causing trouble.

The lynx-point inched subtly closer to her deputy, placing herself on the other side of Scorchedpaw and lifting her head in a silent greeting to Orangestar but offering nothing else. She seemed more interested in chatting with Flamewhisker anyways, which was fine by her. Palefire still felt a bit on edge about the illicit meeting their neighbors had with Riverclan behind their backs. Would Flamewhisker ask about it? Would Orangestar give an honest answer? She was more interested in that than idle chit-chat.

As opposed to her leader, Figfeather walks the bare pine floor with @Daisypaw . The duo had been spending a considerable amount of time with Lupinesong recently, but today they were out on their own again with their patrol-mates for company.

Further back, she hears Orangestar's exclamation before she sees the ThunderClan patrol. Her ears perk up with interest, Flamewhisker? She's not seen the orange ThunderClan deputy in what felt like a lifetime. She hobbles forward at an impressive speed, her paws eventually planting themselves at the shoulder of her leader. Figfeather smiles to the ThunderClan deputy, agreeing in Orangestar's compliments in that she looked well.

"It's nice to see you, Flamewhisker." She greets her former journey-mate for herself. Her gaze than averts in order to leave Orangestar and Flamewhisker to their own conversation. Almost directly in front of Figfeather stood Palefire who inched closer to her deputy.

Figfeather dips her head in greeting, they've never spoken to each other one-on-one, but the marmalade tabby as seen her at gatherings prior. "Palefire. I hope you're well."

Daisypaw wasn't sure how he felt about climbing at the moment. Sure, he enjoyed working alongside Lupinesong to be able to start climbing, to get up and down parts of the trees he'd only hoped to be able to be accomplish one day, but he didn't like having to have a second cat teach him these things. The blue tom didn't hold any ill-will against either of the cats that had been training him thus far - Figfeather couldn't help the fact that she'd been injured and unable to actually move up trees as she once had been able to before - but it felt... wrong to be assigned as an apprentice to one cat only to be told to learn from another. At least at every training instance Figfeather was also there instead of simply pushing him off to Lupinesong and running off to hunt or do anything else, and it took a strong cat to admit that they couldn't actually do something so vitally important within the clan... at least not well enough to be able to teach another.

The thoughts are lost on him as the call from Orangestar reaches his ears and for a moment he's frozen as Figfeather rushes forward - had he misheard the tone of Orangestar? Was there something wrong at the border instead of a simple patrol? - before he moved quickly after her, eyes glancing at the cats across the border before licking his chest for a moment as the adults talked.

He's quiet as they speak, looking over each of them to try and remember names as much as possible. He'd never met Flamewhisker before and hadn't paid that close attention to stuff going on in ThunderClan when he went to gatherings, too focused on making sure he didn't get overrun by apprentices from other clans wanting to speak to truly pay attention to the names and occupations of so many of the cats. Of course he knew leader's names - how could he not - but when a clan had a different cat sitting in the deputy position every time he had gone to the gathering thus far it was hard to pay attention to who actually held that role.
