Figpaw had wanted to be the best climber there ever was. An ambitious feat to accomplish in a clan known for transversing the trees, but a feat she had been on the right path to achieving. She had been a natural under Tallulahwing, soaring the trees, hopping from branch to branch, even hunting in them well before she was expected to. She took pride in being ahead of most other apprentices, pride in knowing she was being the very best cat she could be, until it happened.
Sometimes the tabby gets nightmares of being underneath the monster again. Sometimes, she thinks about the sound of her bones snapping and the feeling of numbness as the cold took over. By some miracle, Tallulahwing, Daisyflight, and Twitchbolt had found her and brought her home. Dawnglare mended her infection that had set in… and in two moons she was at last allowed to get back to her duties.
The pain she had endured hadn’t been the worst thing, nor the fact she now was burdened with the weight of a near useless leg. No. The worst thing about all of it had been she could no longer climb. Without the strength of two back legs, Figfeather could no longer propel herself up trees. Slowly, she had come to terms with this and instead placed her dreams on her apprentices. She had hoped it for Wolfpaw, and now she hopes it for Daisypaw.
Figfeather recalls how to climb, she could explain it verbally, instruct from the ground, sure. But it’d never be the same as having a mentor up in the trees with you… or as safe. That’s why today she looks to a young warrior, apprenticeless with time on their paws. If they were willing, she could help her shape Daisypaw into the greatest climber in the forest.
”Lupinesong.” Figfeather greets the warrior who she had found sitting in the sun. ”You’re a good climber. I’ve seen you in the trees many times before. If you’re up to it, I could use your help with something.”
