Strangely, the nursery felt as crowded as the warrior's den these days. With Nightbird's kits almost ready to be apprenticed, and her own sprouting before her very eyes, Badgerstripe's ears fill with the sweet snores of kittens, and finds herself in an abundance of warmth each night.

It's not that she welcomes it entirely, but it's more of.. the consequence that comes with keeping her little ones cooped up for so long. They could eat prey, they could play, and almost speak in coherent sentences. And yet, they had been permitted to leave the nursery only under her strict watch. Badgerstripe could feel their energy radiate off of them, their desperation to explore strong as ever. It is only for the good of her kits that she tries to let loose.

With a heavy breath held for what feels like an eternity, the young queen exhales and rises from her nest. She had promised them the night before, after all, that she would let them explore on their own today. As the three kits bound out of the den, Badgerstripe finds herself sulking at the nursery's entrance, watching with round, worry-creased eyes.

" Remember to play nice, Heartkit! " she calls out after her daughter, who reminds her so much of Sleekserpent's cream pelt. Then to Shrewkit and Faithkit, she nervously insists, " A - and remember to look both ways before crossing the clearing! Don't get under anybody's paws! "

And with all that said, she finally takes a seat at the mouth of the den, keeping her unblinking eyes on her three kittens as they start their first outing without her shepherding. Albeit, far from easy - Badgerstripe's tail twitches relentlessly, and her fur prickles occasionally with each passerby that crosses the kits. Please, be careful..

"Yes mama." Shrewkit responds very politely and earnestly as Badgerstripe insists on their safely, and then she lets them free to visit with their Clanmates. The whole camp is now at their paws! It's different from their supervised visits to the clearing, though Shrewkit can still feel Badgerstripe's intent eyes watching their every move. She has to make a good impression on someone! Who better than someone familiar?

The less-than-kind whispers in the nursery had called them the dog-kits, more feral than Clan cat. Not quite fearful but close enough to, Shrewkit had never really spoken to them outside of briefly mewed hellos. Now, as apprentices, maybe they'd be a little less scarier ... and if one of them is alone, maybe they would be okay with Shrewkit saying hi! Shrewkit gravitates towards the one Doepath is speaking with, because Doepath was a safe cat and not scary, and when she stops her little paws halt closer to the queen.

"Um ... Hello," they meow, the fur at their neck prickling nervously as two sets of amber-gold eyes turn her way. "My name is Shrewkit. Yours is ...?"

It was still not happy with Doepath, angered at a perceived abandonment at the paws of those unborn. Thrashpaw has already decided that in this current stage of his life she has nothing to do with the new members of this family. If one could even call it that. They can't feel more rotten and decayed if they never look at the faces of those who are so young and innocent. There is a conflict there however, as it desires to attach himself to his sister more. Thrashpaw refuses to be so easily forgotten, Doepath was the first of the older siblings it ever let it's guard down around and there's a squealing pup wanting attention within him.

Yet it finds it struggles to converse, a folly of its own creation. "Antlerbreeze… took me to… ShadowClan" it grumbles, trying it's best at small talk while avoiding the topic of the thunderpath that surrounds that neighbouring clan. "Do… You.. No uh.. Did you ever… go there?" This feels worse than what it imagines pulling teeth feels like. The intrusion of a squeaky voice is a welcomed one, amber eyes flicker from the queen to a wandering kit. One of Badgerstripe's, since when could they talk?

"Um…" It grumbles but the kitten isn't met with a hiss or snarl despite how their tail lashes like an adder waiting to strike. "Thrashpaw… M'names Thrashpaw…" after what feels like a seasons worth of silence it speaks up again. "What are you… Doing?"

Doepath crouches close to the ground, keeping her paws sucked under her chest as sun-drop gaze lingers on the shifting curls of shadowed fur. They stay with her, despite the way they bristle at the roundness of her belly, to try to talk and that in itself is a relief of normalcy. Fawn fur shifts under the struggled conversation- she'd broken a promise to Howlpaw... to go with it and take it hunting. This is just another reminder. "Did you like exploring? I know I wasn't very excited when I was first going out..." She could remember clinging to Wolfwind's tail, practically begging her not to make the young she-cat go out there again, stumbling over roots.

"Yeah, I've been," she purrs, trying not to cling to the bright-light flashing of a memory ended in broken bones. "It smells terrible doesn't it?"

Her ears shift at the sound of a small voice peeping at them a soft-mewed introduction. Her lips pull into a gentle smile, she recognized Badgerstripe's kittens... "Hey Shrewkit... is Badgerstripe taking you guys out on an adventure today?" It must be scary... how huge the camp was in comparison to the confines of the nursery. Thrashpaw is probably the most docile she's seen it in moons... calm and trying to choose patience with someone so fresh to conversation and companionship.

Badgerstripe's kits are out today. They're out and they go to talk to Thrashpaw, who's talking to Doepath... Thrashpaw seems like he's having a hard time talking. Tigerkit isn't the best at talking, but she feels a little good that she's better at talking than Thrashpaw. Because they're friends though, she'll help them. Tigerkit pads up to the three of them, tail waving in a polite ask for attention. " Thrashpaw's my friend, " she tells Shrewkit and Doepath both. Would they think it's cool that she's friends with an apprentice? Shrewkit was probably too little and dumb to not realize Thrashpaw was a kit last moon...

She looks at Shrewkit, and she almost asks, do you wanna be friends, too? But she's not sure if she wants to be friends with Shrewkit, especially when Shrewkit had siblings that sounded like they talk to StarClan. If- If um, what Thundergleam told her is right. Hopefully Faithkit and Heartkit don't talk to StarClan, cause that'd be really sad for Thundergleam, but they might, so Tigerkit should be prepared for this... Who would make a better friend then?

" It's Shrewkit's first time out, " she explains to the others. More friends were always good, she guesses. She liked telling these cats that Thrashpaw was her friend, so she'd get to do it some more of Shrewkit was her friend. " We can be friends if you want, Shrewkit. " She felt very nice offering this, too. " Maybe ShadowClan won't smell terrible to me. I'm training to fight ShadowClan warriors, " very impressively, she shares.

❝ it's gonna hurt for a bit of time ❞

While it was not the first time Lightflower had seen the kits, she brightened once she saw them and Badg' out for the day. "Hey guys," she purred. "I heard that there's a really pretty rock hidden somewhere in camp, if anyone is interested," she added. She thought it'd be nice to give them something enticing to look for while they explored. She was thankful they were all healthy. Sure, the thought had crossed her mind once or twice. It was getting closer to leaf-bare. Cats would be getting ill more frequently as it got colder. But for now they looked about as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as squirrels. She came over to sit beside Badgerstripe. "How're you holding up?" she asked.
