The winds roar across the wildflower fields, scattering petals and soil into the mouth of the tunnel they've chosen. Just beyond that lies the great blue expanse of sky, remaining a serene blue as if unbothered by the tiny hurricane beneath. Sunlight spills through the hole in the earth, but Downypaw crouches just out of its (and the wind's) reach, letting their thick fur cool in the shadows.

A question bubbles on her tongue, odd and fizzing. Not a plague on their mind, but a little spot. A freckle, an interestingly-shaped mole they can't seem to get rid of. Really, she just hadn't imagined she'd see peace long enough for something like this to matter. Or did it matter at all? They're not worried worried about it, but it's not sitting quite right with them. It's as though ever since she first noticed it, she can't stop noticing it, like the slightest imbalance of a chair.

Well, Rattleheart is here. Downypaw is painfully aware of how much she tries to be here for them. It's annoying at times, and it makes them feel guilty at others, but they think they've mostly made their peace with failing Sootspot and letting Rattleheart take the fall. "Rattleheart?" she muses. "May I ask you something? It's not about tunneling."

AS HE RAISED HIS FIST BEFORE HE SPOKE — Mentoring had been a complicated subject for Rattleheart, ever since they had lost Peonybreeze to Sootstar's influence. Their failures there would always plague their mind no matter how many moons passed, and they were determined not to repeat the same mistakes with Downypaw. Even if they were starting from a place of disadvantage. They tried not to reveal as much to the apprentice herself, but they knew it was a reality she made not of. The hostility between the lead warrior and her former mentor, and their determination to make sure she didn't end up like him. Though they had been trying their best to hide that antagonism more and more lately, if only for her sake.

It was honestly a relief to have her ask them a question directly, their pale gaze flicking over curiously as her voice cut through the silence. They weren't irritated in being interrupted from their staring grimly at the miniature downpour of dirt and petals that sought to attack the both of them. "Mm? That's fine, I'm around for more than just questions about the practical parts of your training. What is it, Downypaw?" There was genuine curiosity in their voice, wondering what could have been bothering her enough to make her ask them about it. Or perhaps she was just getting more comfortable with them over time, and it wasn't all that serious of an inquiry. Either way they were glad to help, impressive ears perked up into the shadows that surrounded the both of them.
