WindClan's camp had seemingly been buzzing with gossip and chatter regarding recent events or quiet and somber, and seemingly no in between. What luck they had, for their deputy and one of their warriors to betray Sootstar and run off right in the midst of a plague! Sunstride had been promoted in Badgermoon's place, a decision that Snakehiss and his father were less than pleased about. The two night-colored toms spent the morning conversing outside of the warriors den, keeping their voices hushed from prying ears.
"... Besides, Sootstar says that she needs capable and healthy warriors to guard camp. That way, no other clan can take advantage of us with so many warriors gone." Snakehiss meows with a radiating confidence, built up and fortified so that another blow to his pride couldn't possibly crumble his already unstable composure. StarClan knew that he would be among the cats feeling the most troubled as a result of Badgermoon's treachery. "I'm glad to stay behind and defend the moors from our enemies." He says to his father, Shadowsight, reassuring him that he would still contribute to the clan as much as possible even if he hadn't been one of the chosen. Sootstar would not have sent those cats off on a dangerous mission had she not thought them to be disposable. He thinks to himself, delusional and only attempting to feel better about his predicament.
Just as a marbled brown she-cat pads into camp, she breaks out into an uncontrollable cough and hangs her head to the ground, hacking and expelling from her lungs. Her paws trembled underneath the weight of her body, and within moments, her legs had buckled beneath her and caused her form to fall to the ground. "Mother...?!" The young warrior exclaimed, jaws dropping agape with utter horror as he bolted forward to her side. What was the matter with her? Was she sick?! She hadn't mentioned anything to him or Shadowsight about feeling unwell. "Wolfsong! Somebody— fetch Wolfsong now!" He was not leaving Rosepool's side. He wouldn't. S
A grave realization dawns upon Snakehiss as he crouches next to the collapsed, wheezing form of Rosepool — the journeying party had only departed camp a few nights ago. Who knew how long it would take them to find lungwort and return... if they returned at all?
His heart sinks to the bottom of his stomach.
