Cats her age had friends. Cats younger than her had friends. Cats older than her had friends. And what did Evergreenpaw have? A mother, a father in StarClan, littermates, and a mentor. The living probably only put up with her because they had to.

She had tried, and failed, multiple times but the words just kept getting stuck in her throat, or she'd panic and run away, or something else would happen and she'd end up giving up. It was almost funny at this point how utterly incompetent she was. Every little bit of praise, every compliment felt like a lie to her, and it was starting scare her, terrify her. And there was nothing she could do to stop it, when Howlingstar called her up under the guise of earning her warrior name only to banish her from ThunderClan for having skills worse than the Clan's kits!

Evergreenpaw shuddered. No, she needed to do better, she needed to make sure that she was never put into that embarrassing scenario. She also needed to stop thinking so hard about things, because when she thought too hard about things she'd end up trialing on and on about a bad outcome and then her heart would race, she'd start breathing all funny, and she'd start shaking.

But still, she felt... powerless and weak, embarrassed at the prospect of being seen like this in the middle of camp. She flattened her ears and began to try and think up an excuse should anyone come to confront her, and hopefully also some conversational topics.

"GOLDEN CHILD, LION BOY;"
sandpaw was tired, aching from her latest patrol. the fresh kill pile was calling her name, it's scent beckoning her. the only thing the apprentice could do was oblige, snowy paws carrying her through camp to reach it. she spotted a squirrel, one she had caught earlier that day. her eyes widened happily, stomach grumbling as she edged closer. this would do it, would be perfect.

it turned out, her eyes were much bigger than her belly. half eaten, the prey sat at her paws limply. the tabby felt as if she would explode with one more bite. glancing around camp, she spotted a fellow apprentice, evergreenpaw. ears flattened, the earth toned molly stood. what she was doing, sandpaw hadn't a clue. they hadn't interacted much despite being near the same age, but the other apprentice was meek, acted like a mouse in a den of lions.

sandpaw approached, rather slowly as if a sudden movement would send her bolting. the squirrel hung from her jaws loosely, until it was unceremoniously dropped at evergreenpaw's feet. "you want the rest? i can't finish it, one more bite and i might die." it was a tad dramatic, but her tone was light, airing on the side of humor.

Wolfwind can sense the awkwardness rolling off from her. She's seen if before. Oldish apprentice, maybe feelin' too old to hang out with some of the others, but too young to be with a warrior crowd. Ears and head down, sitting lonely - like in the middle of the day when she shouldn't be. Yep, she needs a little Wolfwind remedy. Somewhat surprising her though, Sandpaw makes her way to her first , subtly, or not-so-subtly depending on who you ask, asking the older apprentice to eat with her. Yes, yes, good. Wolfwind would just give a little further nudge.

She strides over nonchalantly. Actually, scratch that, she strides over obviously instead. Looking absolutely ravenous but not really like, in an evil, hungry wolf way, not a starving, sad kit way. " Ya better accept the offer before I do! " she tells Evergreenpaw. The funny part is that this is not a joke.

( ) Hailstorm had been resting in a nice shady spot after having returned from a patrol, his paws tucked underneath him, and his eyes half closed in a rather lazy way but upon hearing the voices of his clanmates did his head lift up. His eyes blinking twice as he tried to see what was happening from a little distance taking note of Evergreenpaw's posture and appeared like she would flinch or shy away at the slightest movement made towards her, ears lifting up completely when he realized that Sandpaw was making her way towards Evergreenpaw offering some of her half eaten squirrel. His head bobbing in approval (or maybe that was him beginning to nod off from the heat) before letting his front limbs slip out from underneath his massive body and used them to push himself upwards after a good stretch.

Claws raking the soil underneath his paws and Hailstorm parting his jaws to let out a soft yawn, he let himself shimmy in the air for a moment before deciding that he would go over there seeing as Wolfwind had joined the two apprentices. He couldn't help but snort in amusement hearing what the lead warrior said to the older apprentice, a grin present on his maw as he spoke with a nod of his head "She sounds serious, I'd take the offer." A warm purr tumbling out from his throat deciding to take a seat offering a friendly thump of his bobbed tail against the ground.

It was hard to ignore the growing crowd forming around Evergreenpaw, and he couldn't help but ponder how long before the skittish apprentice bolted away from it all. Wildheart exhaled softly as he selected a plump looking thrush from the pile before he headed over to join them. "Tch! If you're so famished Wolfwind you can eat some of this with me." He huffed with a shrug of his shoulders before he set to work on defeathering the bird. The calico spared a glance in Evergreenpaw's direction though he decided not to speak to her yet. The prickliest warrior and the most fearful apprentice? It was potentionally a recipe for disaster.

Within a matter of moments, which seemed like an eternity to the apprentice within her state of brooding - time always seemed to go so slowly when she was trying to calm herself down - she was surrounded, and her heart began to race.

Sandpaw dropped the rest of a squirrel at her feet, saying she was too full for it. Wolfwind came next, saying that she'd take it if Evergreenpaw didn't claim it fast enough. Hailstorm said that Wolfwind sounded serious. And Wildheart told Wolfwind to share with him if she's so famished.

"Squirrel, um... I'll... I'll take it!" she managed to get out, taking a deep breath. She offered a thankful glance towards Wildheart, even if he did not address her directly. She appreciated that, at the very least, as she was a bit - or maybe very - intimidated by him. But she was also kind of intimidated by everyone in a sense, so maybe that was just to be expected.

Her heart calmed down, and she finally took a bite of the squirrel, savoring it's taste. "It's... it's good. Thank you," she smiled at Sandpaw, though her tone was still quiet, still a little nervous.

But it was progress, wasn't it? She... she was sort of talking to others, she hadn't run away yet! Evergreenpaw thanked StarClan, glad that they'd finally listened to her hopes and wishes.

'I'm gonna do better, I'm gonna talk to others, and I'm... I'm not gonna get kicked out of ThunderClan!' she thought, taking another bite and keeping her ears perked, ready to try to socialize a little bit more.

It's rare that Tansy gets more than an hour of peace these days, with both Coalkit and Crystalkit being rambunctious little things. To be quite honest, though, the queen doesn't mind the business for it gives her peace of mind, a way to start healing. The only bad thing about it is that shes swarmed when she comes back from her outings with Lily Pad... She slightly laughs to herself, stretching in the sunlight as she lays.

Voices hit her ears and she raises her head, tilting it ever so slightly, as she watches cats converge around an apprentice. Well, she better go and see whats up...

Tansy makes her way over, giggling slightly at Wolfwinds words. Evergreenpaw, Tansy had noticed, usually kept to herself so much so that it reminds Tansy a bit of her own personality. She's glad that Evergreen is making an effort and she also decides to indulge the apprentice in more conversation. "Hello, Evergreenpaw. How has your training been going?" she asks quietly, tilting her head slightly as she seats herself. Her tail flicks back and forth, dipping her head in greeting to those who have already gathered. It's... nice being around others, and shes glad that Sandpaw had offered Evergreen a squirrel.

Did someone say rambunctious?

Here came Hawthornpaw, slipping out of the apprentice den. She wasn't midday napping, no, she was changing out part of her nest. The moss was getitng worn all over again, and it was rough on her body. Hawthorn twitched her ear as she saw the group milling around Evergreenpaw, who she really did expect to go yowling into the shadows at any moment. A snort left him as she viewed her brother, and she padded over, swiping one of the feathers from the thrush and tossed it up in the air, watching it drift down.

While she did this, she spoke out loud. "Bet you she hasn't gotten very far." Hawthorn said- but not unkindly, her voice incredibly neutral. (Which, for any of the cats here that knew her, knew that wasn't particularly a good thing.) Her eyes opened, turning towards the group of people, then honed in on Evergreenpaw. "Squirrel will make you quick, you know! They're fast little things, so you are what you eat, right?" Her grin split wide, the uncalled-for comment she had just made slipped underneath her most recent.

"GOLDEN CHILD, LION BOY;"
with the helpful prodding of some warriors, sandpaw's offer is accepted. shaky were evergreenpaw's words as she received the prey, the blonde apprentice offers a quick sigh of relief. "thanks, i owe ya," she hummed in approval, sitting and licking a paw to begin dragging it over her head.

the girl's smile is returned, a stubbed tail tapping lightly against the ground behind her. sandpaw busied herself with fixing the state of her pelt, idly listening to tansyshine's polite questioning. she was awaiting a response, something along the lines of 'oh it's been great!' or 'i'm getting better every day!', but instead a biting comment came from another source. nearly shocked, a golden scowl veers off to hawthornpaw who was grinning innocently.

"you must eat snakes then. or maybe rats?" sandpaw hissed with much less composure than she had planned. there was a time when she would have sat back, let the monochrome apprentice pretend that her smile smoothed things over. but the comment that preceded it hit too close to home, even if she wasn't the target the words scathed her mind.

Sandpaw's outburst caused her ears to flick, but that smile didn't leave her face, turning her vision towards the fawn pelted apprentice. The smirk only curled over her lips, and without answering her question, threw it right back. This was fun, after all, and Sandpaw just made the game a whole lot better. She spoke, padding closer. "You must be looking in a puddle at yourself." Oh, yeah, she was hoping for some kind of confrontation, and Hawthornpaw got it.

Her head tilted, her lemon yellow eyes pinpointed on Sandpaw. "After all, I'd like to be as fast as a squirrel, right? Speed is never bad. Often works better then strength." Hawthorn just didn't shut up, but that was her, after all. It looks like she was taking a page out of her brother's book, just for now.

She spares a glance at Hailstorm. She is damn serious. Wolfwind huffs when the apprentice manages to stutter an answer, as if deeply frustrated by this turn of events. Which she wasn't. Because she was trying to help her, not take anyone's food, nuh-uh, no way.

Grumbling like a story villain whose plans have been tarnished, Wolfwind begins swinging her head in the direction of the fresh - kill pile, but is intercepted by Wildheart of all folk. She expects him to say somethin' stupid, but instead he offers that they share somethin' instead. Wolfwind looks offended. " Why, I'd rather share a fish with a RiverClanner! " despite this, she makes her way toward him. She's happy to let him keep on with defeatherin'. S'probably one of her least favorite activities of all time.

She doesnt stop herself from quirking a brow when Hawthornpaw emerges from the apprentice den, apparently just to piss some people off. Wolfwind remembers her own apprentice squabbles.... She's so damn old. Practically decrepit. They didn't need an old hag like her intruding in on their business. But still, " Evergreenpaw's got more than a season on ya, Hawthornpaw. " She points out, rolling her eyes. The poor thing already seemed awkward as she could be; she didn't need any apprentices ragging on her for whatever reason. Wolfwind's got no clue what Hawthornpaw is yapping about from there, so she leaves them to their business.

"On you go then." Wildheart scoffed with a twitch of his tail stump in response to Wolfwind. Once he had finished removing the last of the bothersome feathers from the bird's body. He took the first bite of the prey before he used a paw to push it towards Wolfwind in offering. Chewing on the mouthful, he then shifted his attention towards that of his younger sister. "Never mind speed or strength, you need something with brains, Hawthornpaw." Any chance to poke at his sibling he fully intended to seize.
