pafp SUNDAYS ARE FOR DANCING [ ✦ ] gift, prompt

He remembers the day that Roeflame had given him that stone. It had been jet black, like his pelt, and she had gifted it to him in a time where he had felt alone. A thank you, she had said, but he had seen so much more in it. He had kept that stone underneath his nest, keeps it now in the nest they share together and sometimes, on nights where sleep does not find him, he finds his paws searching for it so that he may touch it and feel comforted by that cool, smooth, surface. All those moons ago he said he would repay the favor, and he had not forgotten but finding a gift that could match in meaning was a task that would take time and patience.

Finally, today, he had found something. A glint of brilliant orange had caught his eye while out on patrol and when he had pawed away at the foliage he had revealed a stone of Amber. Brilliant orange, like fire. Like the forest around them when Roeflame had first said 'I love you' to him. Leaf-fall would forever be his favorite season because that is when they had finally confessed their feelings to one another, the first time in his life since kithood he has ever felt this cared for by another.

He takes the stone carefully in his jaws and heads back to camp with it, and when he gets there his eyes immediately scan the clearing for a sign of familiar cinnamon colored fur. When at last he spots her he makes a beeline, deposits the stone at her paws and meets her gaze for a long moment. "For you" he says, suddenly feeling nervous as he reaches out with one paw and pushes the stone forward. Hopefully when she looked at it, she would see the same meaning he had behind it and he would have no need to explain.

// please wait for @ROEFLAME .

ROEFLAME — I fell in love with the fire long ago.

With the snow and frost already upon them, Roeflame had taken it upon herself to help out with putting the finishing touches of making the camp leaf-bare ready.
She was a lead warrior now, and more than happy to take on the extra responsibility that came with her promotion, always having been both busy-pawed and busy minded.
After double-checking the nursery’s newly reinforced walls, Roeflame was more than content to wander elsewhere and let her now sore paws rest for a bit.
She knew Burnstorm would be back soon, but had half a mind to see what Wolfwind or Freckleflame were up to, not quite ready to be by herself quite yet.
Not long after she had begun her hunt for a friend to bother, a familiar form of broadened ebony slipped through the entrance, and when it’s clear his gaze is searching for her, Roeflame would begin to make her way towards him.
The cinnamon tabby would not have to walk far, however. When their eyes finally make contact, her mate is quick to close the gap between them, Roeflame’s usual greeting cut short when there is suddenly a stone placed between her paws.
Optics are awe-struck as she looks down, the ambers brilliant golden hue causing a sweetened smile to crack along her maw.
For you. He says, and Roeflame gives away to soft laughter, his presentation of the gift strikingly similar to how her own had been when she had found his small chuck of obsidian. Her own forepaw reaches to touch the stones smooth surface.
"It’s beautiful." The she-cat murmurs, the brilliant color reminding her of the forest in leaf-fall, she almost wonders if it resonates with Burnstorm in the same way.
"Thank you, my love." Finally looking away from her gift, she’d attempt to nuzzle her cheek against his chest fur, head tucking perfectly under her mates chin with a purr.

” booooo! “ she croons, once the moment had good and passed because it was sweet, really. after her talk with roeflame, she couldn’t help the tenderness in her heart when she sees the two of them together ; childhood friends, happy all these moons later. she’s happy for them, beyond it, but you wouldn’t be able to tell at this moment. she wrinkles her nose with an exaggeration that creases her muzzle, laying her ears flat where she lays heavy on her flank nearby. if it were anyone else, perhaps it would be rude — but then she grins so bright at her friends that it hurts the edges of her maw. an outstretched arm wiggles to scoop snow and toss it their way ( more of a scrape, really, a crumbling of frost landing not two whiskers lengths from the paw that has thrown it ), before giving up with a heavy sigh. “ you two are no better than raccoonstripe and nightbird! “

from where she lies, though, she sees the stone glint — a beautiful, striking thing. the thought of receiving something like it sends her heart dreaming, a fluttering in her chest drawing a soft, belated, “ that’s real pretty, though. you got a good eye, burnstorm. “ maybe it was the company.

Had nerves not had their iron grip on him, Shinepaw would have been booing right alongside Freckleflame. The shaft of sunlight saw the gesture as cute, heartfelt, kind, but he could never understand why someone would want to do it. Well, that wasn’t the right way to put things. He understood wanting to get a gift for a loved one, but sharing a nest? Snuggling up to each other like that? It just seemed like too much.

Shinepaw tried to loosen up a bit and distract himself, scattering some harmless specks of snow in Freckleflame’s direction for her comment. It didn’t work. As sky-blue eyes gazed at the stone, Shinepaw couldn’t help but voice his questions, adding on to Freckleflame’s own comment. “Did you grab it because it reminded you of Roeflame, or did you just think it looked cool?” It was a strange question to ask, but Shinepaw found the notion of being so infatuated that some cat’s face popped into his head whenever he saw a shiny stone equally as strange. The apprentice always assumed he’d get it when he was older, but he was older now, and it still didn’t click.
