sunny skies and splashing waves ღ human!beach day

To be 100% truthful, Wendolyn Dawn wasn't much inclined to a beach day. But it was the first day of summer, and her little cousins deserved the summer trip. The neighborhood usually formed a yearly beach day for everyone, and having a break from school was well-needed. Pulling up in her car, she glanced back in the rearview mirror to spot the little trio. Humming, she got out of the car, opening her parasol as she squinted behind the flower-shaped sunglasses that Charlie gave her for her birthday. Opening the door to the backseat, she huffed. "Come on, you three! Today will be fun." She hummed softly as she prodded the shoulder of the kid closest to her. The three needed some cheering up, given it hadn't been long since Leviathan up and left. Huffing lightly at the thought and grabbing her beach bag. "Come on, the faster we get a spot settled the sooner we can get ice cream." She encouraged, scanning through her shades at the beach as other vehicles pulled up. Spotting Charlie and her siblings, Wendolyn raised her parasol and waved it before situating it back over her head. Today was going to be a nice day, regardless.

Levi huffed when his cousin pushed her shoulder against his where he was standing beside her, half-covered in shade from the parasol she was carrying, but otherwise at the sun's mercy. He hadn't wanted to go on this beach trip; he didn't know what he'd rather do, but he'd prefer anything other than having to dog after this cousin he barely knew with siblings he was at odds with to go and get along with acquaintances that he'd rather were strangers. He hadn't had much of a choice in the matter though, so here he was, in swim trunks and a rash guard, toeing the bottom of his sandals.

"Ice cream? What are we, five?" Levi muttered to the closest sibling, his gaze trailing after Wendolyn's wave towards one of her friends. Yes, he decided, he's rather be anywhere but here today. At least at home he didn't have to interact with all these people; even at school, he was generally given a wide berth. Something about his father and his reputation, not that Levi cared about what Senior was up to anymore.

*+:。.。 "HELL YEAH ICE CREAM!" Vinnie shouts without a single regard in avoiding the "five-year-old" accusations. Unlike his brother, the young mullet-haired boy is all toothy smiles and has been from the start. Wendy's poor car windows are smudged with his nose, cheek, and hand prints from the long hour of waiting for the scenery to shift into the brightly lit golden sands and enticingly playful ocean waters. He could barely contain his excitement when they came to a stop, his eyes never leaving the distant tides. One day, imma surf in that he thinks determinedly, squinting against the sparkle of reflected sunlight. He'd have to be patient though, considering becoming freshly orphaned ate up a lot of their financial stability. As much as he longed to beg and whine Wendy for surfing lessons, it probably wasn't in the budget.
And the last thing Vinnie wanted was to cry like his dad did. He shivered at the memory.

But that's what made Wendy's efforts today all the more special! Taking the time out of her busy schedule to round them all up for a beach day - she was pretty much the coolest cousin in like, the whole world! The least Vinnie could do was make sure she knew how grateful he, at least, was. "DON'T FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN, BY THE WAY!" rummaging through the bags he'd packed for the occasion, Vinnie pulls out a specific bottle of sunblock before barking for his cousin's attention with his typical too-loud outdoor voice. Once he has her eyes, he'll aim to toss her the sun-block before resuming his management of the bags.
He packed all the essentials!
Snacks, more sunscreen (in case the other one ran out), extra sunglasses ( in case someone needed some ), a guide on tsunami's and what to watch out for (also just in case), toys to play with in the sand (in case Junior decided to drop the wet blanket and join in on the fun!), towels, goggles, extra sandals, an inflatable beach ball, water bottles, etc. etc. etc. He hikes the bag onto his shoulder, the weight unbalancing him for a moment before he remedies the weight disparity by grabbing foldable lawn chairs in his other arm. He'd made sure to help plan this whole day to perfect, with as many options for activities and rest spots as he could think of!
Grinning in triumph despite his shoulders already screaming with the strain, Vinnie promptly lowers himself into a runner's crouch. His assisting wasn't about to end at bellhop duties! "ILL GO GRAB US THE BEST SPOT!" he announces, loud and proud, before promptly taking off!

Have you ever seen a basilisk lizard "run" on water? Legs windmilling on either side as they run as quickly as they can to skim the water's surface lest they sink beneath. Vinnie looked a little like that - long legs exaggeratedly taking huge, circular strides as he avoided to the best of his ability sloughing through the worst of the sand's drag.

He ended up failing. Foot catching and sending him- and all his heavy armful of items - to the ground in a spray of crushed seashell grains.

It's too hot. Rowan thinks to themselves as their cousin Wendolyn leads them down toward the sunny sands. Today was supposed to be a family outing, all in the name of the summertime season, but it was strange. Rowan has never thought of Wendolyn as family even though Father had told them that they shared the same blood. Now that he was out of the picture, they figured that maybe they ought to give the albino woman a chance. Gloria wasn't much of a mother figure, anyway, so if Wendolyn wanted to take her little cousins out for the day then Rowan didn't see the issue. They weren't too comfortable, especially considering that Wendolyn was still an acquaintance, but getting out of the house was appealing to the adolescent.

Junior meets Wendolyn's mention of a sweet treat with apathy while Vinnie loudly voices his enthusiasm. She loves her brother; being loud was simply how he was, and though his shouting was ear-splitting most of the time, she would defend him with all she could. "You're too old for ice cream, now?" Rowan teases Levi in their own deadpan manner whilst slightly cocking an eyebrow. Her twin putting up such a front was amusing; ice cream's enjoyability was not limited by age. Some flavors were far too sweet for their liking, but maybe Levi could find enjoyment in one of the "old people" flavors like pistachio. They personally favored cookies and cream.

Vinnie had run off before they'd known it, and just as Rowan had turned their attention away from Levi, they caught a glimpse of their twin face-planting into the sand. All of the items he had been holding were scattered around him, a sorry sight indeed. "Vinnie?" The dark-haired adolescent calls; they aren't too concerned, as he fell all the time and got back on his feet in no time.
