Cranetuft stretched as he exited the den. It was a new day, a nice day. A day she could use. The moment she woke up, her exhaustion faded. She bounded into camp, quite literally, and glanced around for someone, anyone to talk to. Oh, oh! She finally had an idea, and a good one at that.

Cranetuft slid in front of the nursery, wrapping her tail around her paw as she called the kits over. "I've got a story for you all!" She called, her voice sweet akin to honey. It was an entirely fictional story, of course. "Have I ever told you about the three warriors that took down a rat the size of a cat?" Her voice held suspense, hoping to get the kits excited, and perhaps anyone else who was listening in on her.

Though her pelt remained forever fluffed up and frizzy, the chill was not something the orphaned kitten was pleased to be exposed to. Of course, she was allowed to cuddle close with the queens and other kits at night when the cold was at its fiercest, but she missed her mother's embrace circling around her. A distraction from thoughts too big and dark for such a small kit comes in the form of Cranetuft, with promises of a story. Woollykit perks up at this, sorrow and sadness momentarily forgotten as something new catches her attention and draws her focus. Scrambling over, eyes bright, tortoiseshell kit blinks eagerly up to the mostly white warrior.

"A rat can be that big?" She asks, awe and fear in her voice. She'd heard about rats, how ShadowClan hunt them for prey and how their bites can be deadly if a warrior doesn't get them properly seen to... one the size of a cat is downright nightmare inducing. "How'd the warriors kill it? Was it hard? Did they get hurt? Are they super important? Do I know them? Was one my papa?" The question of her father was one stemmed from stories her mother told her before she, too, passed. Littlepool had been an excellent hunter, and he'd never left camp only to return empty pawed so he'd have to be one of the warriors in this tale!

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ another story to fill her children's ears, she hoped this one wouldn't be as harrowing as the tale spun underneath highrock. the 'clawless cat' was still brought up from time to time, nightbird swore if she ever found the beast, in retaliation she'd take the rest of its claws herself and really give the ghost something to whine about.

the queen doubts that cranetuft's will be similar, three warriors taking down a rat was more grounded in reality. that had merit, she supposed. if only she could have the chance to listen. woollykit was rattling off questions before the poor warrior had even begun. "i'm sure you'll find out if you stop talking and give cranetuft a chance." nightbird sighs with thinly bemused exasperation. thank the stars her time in this place was dwindling, she'd lose her mind sooner rather than later.

And there was the audience he'd been looking for! A lovable and goofy smile danced across Cranetuft's face as he lowered his head slightly as if that would help him hear Woollykit better. And then came the plethora of questions, one after the other, a telltale sign of a very curious kitten. He then raised his head, about to speak and tell Woollykit to slow down and take a bit of a breather. She'd run out of oxygen at the rate she was speaking.

However, Nightbird very quickly came to the rescue. He chuckled slightly at the queen chiding Woollykit, though gently. Of course, the story was fiction, but without some realism, it would never be believable! "Okay, so, in this story, I was never told if one of them was your papa - they never gave me names," however, he winked toward Woollykit, suggesting that just for the sake of bravery, perhaps this story could have her father in it. "This rat had a huge appetite." He was making sure to use words the little ones could understand. "It would eat anything and everything in its path. It started with berries and leaves, but then grew, to where even mice were on its menu!" He spoke with flair and exaggeration, showing his fangs slightly, though without the intent to scare the kits. "Eventually, it grew so huge, it was as tall as a warrior, and just kept eating. However, it wouldn't stay in one place for long. So, three brave, strong warriors were sent out. They had to go to the border before finding it. It took days as they searched almost everywhere in the territory, and often, they slept outside of camp. They wanted to show how loyal they were, so they would not return without the rat stopping its hungry rampage. Eventually, they find the hulking beast, and a fight begins. One of the warriors managed to claw it, but then, it had bitten all of them. Soon, they learned that the rat wanted to eat them!" He took a pause, wanting to see other's reactions to the tale so far.
