Budkit stalks toward a lonesome leaf, the subtle breeze making it skitter across camp inch by inch. With rear end high in the air and mittened paws wide set on the ground, the kitten’s movements are awkward but still somewhat effective in keeping pace with the runaway foliage. Her focus is locked so tightly on her plaything that Budkit does not realize her trajectory until it is too late.

Whump.

Her nose collides into the lead warrior’s leg, the rest of her body accordioning into her before slumping to the ground. Budkit releases a soft “eep,” at the action and she resigns to lying on the ground for a second to catch her bearings. Bright blue eyes are curious as to who she ran into though, so ebony face does tilt up enough to catch a glimpse of Howlfire. Oh! That’s Ghostpaw’s mentor! “Sowwy for bumping into you,” Budkit quickly apologizes. She ignores the scraping of her coveted leaf blowing far beyond her reach now. The seal point kitten can always find a new one. “Are you twaining Ghostpaw right now? Is she doing a good job? Do you wike her? Budkit wi-likes her,” she prattles off in quick succession as she gets back up and shakes the dust from her thin pelt.

Much like young Budkit, Howlfire's attention is elsewhere as she walks, so she does not spot Budkit approaching her until just before the young kit crashes into her leg. "Woah!" Howlfire chuckled softly, watching as Budkit tumble backwards. It took her a moment to regain her bearings but was quick to apologise for crashing into her. "That's okay, Budkit," Howlfire smiled down at her. "No harm done - see!" The lead warrior shook her leg out to show Budkit that all was okay and that she wasn't hurt.

"We're not training right now, but I'm planning to take her to the Sandy Ravine later to show her some fighting moves," Howlfire explained. She quickly realised that Budkit had never been outside of camp before and thus would not know about the Sandy Ravine nor where it was, so gave a quick explanation of such. After that, she considered Budkit's following question. "I think she's doing a good job, yes," She confirmed with another smile. "Ghostpaw is eager to learn and explore new things. I'm sure in time she will make a fine SkyClan warrior." Howlfire paused to lower herself closer to Budkit's level. "You'll be an apprentice before long too. Are you excited about that?"

Howlfire’s smile and demonstration of no harm done brings a wide grin to Budkit’s face. “Dats good,” she replies quickly, nodding fervently. Oh how embarrassing it would be to accidentally hurt a lead warrior. Budkit could only imagine how disappointed her mama’s face would be if such had occurred. That would not be good. Not at all.

Fortunately her busy mind does not linger on that thought for long. Already she moves on, asking a million questions to Howlfire and waiting with excitement over the million responses. She learns about a Sandy Raven… or something like that (Budkit may or may not have gotten distracted during that explanation). She does tune in at the mention of her friend’s name, followed by a question directed at her specifically. Oh! “Budkit is uhcited, yes! When Budkit is Budpaw den Budpaw can do wot-lots- of fi-things!” The point kitten nearly bounces on her large paws at the thought of being an apprentice. “Budkit can twain with Ghostpaw! Will you take Budkit and Ghostpaw to the Sandy… uh… Sandy Raven when Budkit is a pwentice?” Pleading sapphires almost dare Howlfire to say no to such an offer when that time comes (though how could anyone say no to the kitten’s face?)

She smiles fondly as Budkit expresses her excitement at becoming an apprentice and being able to do lots more things. Howlfire feels as though she can empathise. Thinking about how she was likely the same, excited to grow up and train and finally be able to do things that didn't involve being stuck in the nursery all day, or under the watchful gaze of her mother.

"You want me to take you to the Sandy Ravine?" Howlfire echoed, looking down at Budkit to make sure she heard correctly. Well, with a sweet little face like that, how could she possibly say no? "I'm sure I could do that one day, Budkit. So long as your mentor lets me steal you away for a while!"
