pafp TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES - mentor & apprentice

Perhaps the penultimate experience of being an apprentice - other than the assessment that would determine whether she was ready to become a warrior in some moons - was the moment when she had been assigned to a mentor in Forestshade. She had thought, on that fateful day after the meeting, that she was a bit disappointed that she wasn't going to be able to train directly under Smogstar - she'd admired him for moons, looked up to him and hadn't even known she'd had the hope that he might be her mentor until after the fact. But she wasn't down in the dumps about it for long - Forestshade seemed like a nice cat, and a capable mentor, even if she was blind - heck, didn't that make her double impressive, having gotten to where she was while being blind?

"Forestshade! It's your apprentice, Gigglepaw," Gigglepaw chirped as she trotted up beside the older she-cat. It was early morning, and Gigglepaw had made sure to get up early so that she might impress Forestshade with her diligence. First impressions were everything, after all! "Are we going to go out today? Ooh, it would be so fun to see the territory! I've only heard stories." She grinned so hard that it made her cheeks hurt, and she hoped that her enthusiasm was palpable enough for Forestshade to recognize it. Or maybe she should try being more mature and stoic - GIgglepaw swiped the grin off of her maw and made a serious face, puffing out her chest.

Forestshade tilts her head slightly as the sound of bouncing pawsteps grows closer. A knowing smile grows on her lips and she shifts her muzzle towards her brand new apprentice. "Morning, Gigglepaw!" She trills warmly, her tail flicking high in the air. A chuckle leaves the stout torbie at the apprentice's clear excitement. "I appreciate the enthusiasm. You ready to work hard?" She is already walking towards the camp's exit, her tail now brushing against the youngster's shoulder.

The she-cat's ears flick towards Gigglepaw's voice, her chin lifting high with confidence. She missed this. She really, really missed this. With Sweetpaw gone...Orchidbloom dead...Flintwish graduated...her life has felt dull, numb, even. But teaching is her life's greatest passion in these difficult times and she is more than willing to dive back in and absorb herself within it. It's all she has. "Yep, we'll head out today. I'll be showing you the territory so you can experience it all firstpaw." She turns her head then so others can listen, "If anyone wants to come, we're leaving now!"

Gigglepaw's attitude has always been quite contagious, and it certainly does not evade Mirepurr today either. She passes them as they near the apprentices' den in hopes of catching Plumpaw there, and evidently she has the same thing on her mind, quick to approach Forestshade for a first outing. Thank the stars Smogstar has decided to grant them another apprentice... the startling lack of the routine Snowlark and Mirepurr had shared would be easier to handle with another 'paw to train.

"I'd love to accompany you," they say, trotting up to the pair once Plumpaw has been summoned. Mentoring has proven to be gratifying all around, but the beginning of it is surely the most exciting part — for warrior and apprentice both. Sharing that with others no doubt makes it even more fun. "Any place you two are specifically looking forward to?"

Going on a patrol with her daughter was a no-brainer to the cinnamon tabby, what better way to ensure she was being cared for than to see her training first-hand? Perhaps she'd be seen as interfering, but given what had happened the last two times she'd stayed on the sidelines (Bloodpaw's injury and Snowypaw's disapperance), she hoped the others would forgive her for her nosiness. Upon the Lead Warrior's call, Ferndance moved closer, a smile upon her muzzle. "Lets go," she whisper-mewed, mirth within her tone. The territory was dangerous but beautiful, but there would be something special about watching one of her little ones witness it for the first time. "There's so many fun things out there... you'll love it." Her tail lashed as she looked behind her, noticeably apprenticeless once more following Laurel's graduation. Perhaps the next meeting, she would get the chance to train a youngster again.
