camp that girl is poison || unofficial meeting & medical lesson

While the medicine cat didn't jump upon Emberstar's usual post, she sat directly beneath. A somber voice chilled with cold authority called out to the clan, "Every cat currently within the confines of camp must gather for a mandatory meeting." Whether appropriate or not to host a meeting without the leader's permission didn't matter to the blue mink. A serious issue needed to be addressed. Emberstar could speak with her later if she disapproved but, right now, the clan needed to be educated.

Any complaints directed toward her announcement were promptly ignored. "Recent events have proven that this knowledge is absolutely necessary. All ThunderClan cats will be expected to memorize this information and pass it on to the next generation of apprentices." Each word was enunciated clearly. A subtle hint of concern broke through her statue-esque visage.

A shaky paw featured to bright red berries wrapped within the safe confines of a wad of moss. "Death berries can and will kill you within minutes. Every second counts when these are ingested. The only way to prevent death is to purge them from the system." She gestured to a bundle of black berries next. "Nightshade works the same way."

After giving the crowd a moment to digest the information, she pointed toward the last "display". The second red berry to be deemed dangerous, "Holly berries are poisonous but will only kill in large quantities. However, they can be fatal to kits."

"If a body part is exposed to any of these, cleanse yourself immediately. Especially if any juice is found on your paws. Do not consume prey if you believe they have recently eaten any of these berries. Instead, kill and bury them." One less belly fed was better than the alternative. "I urge patrols to keep an eye out and inform me when any are spotted. I wish to dispose of as many as possible so that no further accidents will occur."

Sharp, teal eyes scanned the audience. "Any questions?" she asked, tail curling around her injured forepaws.

☀ - WHILST MY HEART STILL BEATS
Sunnyday was no expert when it came to plants or herbs, and he certainly wouldn't be capable of telling the dangerous or the safe ones apart. However, deathberries were perhaps an exception to that. He knew they were dangerous and he actually knew what they looked like, but when it came to treating potential victims he knew nothing.

The tom listened and studied the berries on display, committing everything to memory the best he could. At least now he knew about the other berry related threats. How could such innocent looking things cause so much strife and misery? At the prompt for questions he decided to speak up. "If we discover someone who might have eaten any of these berries what should we do to help purge their gut? I understand that we should alert you in such situations, but if you are out of reach or unavailable I would feel better if we had a few tips for instant treatment." After witnessing what had happened with Rabbitnose he naturally wanted to broaden his understanding of useful herbs or general tricks.

Though she calls for everyone in ThunderClan's confines to gather, Finchcatcher isn't entirely sure her call includes him.

Because, while he's just as much a part of ThunderClan as Cinderfrost is - though, it doesn't feel like it sometimes, what with being new and all - the medicine cat holds a deserved hatred towards him.

However, the meeting is supposed to be mandatory, so Finchcatcher observes from afar as the medicine cat speaks of dangerous herbs and berries. Why the medicine cat would even have any in her possession, Finchcatcher isn't sure, but the thought of such deadly things potentially being stored within the medicine den sets him into a feeling of unease. Was she keeping them... for him?

The young warrior watches quietly, carefully, as Cinderfrost explains each berry, memorizing the best he can the shape and color of each of them.

It would be helpful, after all, to know what herbs were given to him. Especially with Cinderfrost as his medicine cat.

Dappled features steeled dusky with an expression of contemplation; had she asked to do this, pursued any sort of permission? He supposed with a star-chosen rank she needn't, yet it was still an... unconventional gathering. Nevertheless this meeting had been slated as an important one, and thus if she required those present in the camp to attend than he would be remiss to disobey. So he took his rank, green gaze spanning the array. For a moment Bouncy caught his gaze, head hung low in shame- what for he had heard along the creeper vine. Eavesdropping had its benefit- a grown cat, eating death berries. It was in the name. He supposed he could not expect everyone to keep as aware as he...

Still, those black ones he had not seen before- Nightshade, given a warrior name in its deadliness. And holly was a familiar sort, and one he knew too to be poisonous; still, it was wonderful to have the chance to refresh his memory. At Leggy's question- should anyone be foolish enough to eat unknown berried after this lecture- Berryheart nodded his head, usually dulled eyes aglow pale, fascinated by the knowledge. It would be good to know, just in case... some cats in the forest might even refuse to accept the Executioner's help.

At the sound of Cinderfrost's call, Flycatcher gathers below the highrock to hear what she has to say. It's an unconventional meeting to be sure. As Flycatcher takes his place looking up at the medicine cat, he wonders about whether Emberstar had given permission for such a meeting. Or if she knew about it at the very least. Still, given the subject matter, he can't imagine the leader would have much to complain about.

Flycatcher had heard whispers of Rabbitnose's meal of deathberries. He had heard about how dangerous they were but seeing them laid out by Cinderfrost, he could see how easy it would be to accidentally consume thinking they were something innocuous. Cinderfrost pushes on and shows the assembled cats nightshade and holly berries, the first of which seemed to act in much the same way as deathberries, and the latter was slightly less dangerous for an adult cat unless large amounts were consumed. He nodded along to each of the explanations, putting the image of the berries and what harm they could potentially do to his memory.

Unaware that this was all because of one of her fathers, Dewkit would find herself sitting between Rabbitnose and Sunfreckle, quietly listening as she was told to do. While all of this seemed boring and too much for her to understand, she knew there was some significance to this meeting. It'd be unlikely for her to be in attendance if it wasn't. Struggling to place the berries in her memory, she resorted to the thought: all berries must be bad.

Sunfreckle stared with a frown at the assorted berries, moving to sit next to his mate and loop his tail around him; making a neat nest between the two for the kits to sit in. A Dewkit settled in he leaned down to give her head a quick lick of affection before turning to regard Cinderfrost's lesson, "Try to remember our rule. We don't eat strange things off the ground." It was unclear whether or not he was talking to Dewkit or Rabbitnose at this point but frankly it could have been both of them. Sunnyday was asking directly how to help in that situation and he found himself leaning forward to listen in because, sadly, he had the feeling this was not going to be a one-off issue given his partner's penchant for shoving things into his mouth without thought or consideration. Before, starving and alone in the wild, it was a little more understanding but with an entire pile of freshkill and a clan that both provided and offered safety there was no point in such risks.
"....at the very least ask Cinderfrost if it's edible..." His tail flicked with exasperation that this lesson even had to be had at all. It was good to teach the kits, at least, not to mimic their silver father.

Eyes darted from clanmate to clanmate (albeit promptly skipping over her nephew's murderer). They all seemed to be closely examining the berries, etching the details into their brains. Good.

Sunnyday brought forth a valid question. A medicine cat didn't possess any special powers, especially ThunderClan's medicine cat given her disconnect from the stars. But even if the link was re-established that didn't change the fact that she possessed no magic powers; she could only be in so many places a time.

"Yarrow or stinging nettle." The latter she knew from the marshlands while the former knowledge blessed to her by a friend. Thankfully, the molly thought ahead and brought the actual herbs. "The seeds are the valuable and necessary parts of the nettle. Be careful not to use too much and, after the contents have been successfully purged, check their mouths to make sure there are no remnants."

Attentive ears caught Sunfreckle's exasperated advice to his family. A rare occurrence took place in a small chuckle and momentary tooth smile. "Yes, it'd be preferable if I was asked before ingesting berries that are not immediately identifiable." And for those she didn't recognize? Well, an educated guess could be made.. and she could always pester her fellow medicine cats who knew far more than her (disregarding Bone, of course).
