Twinklepaw knew how the ceremonies worked, at least they thought they did. As much as any other apprentice knew anyways, from passed down lessons taught to them in those early moons within the nursery. She had always wondered how leaders came up with names for the warrior ceremonies though, did they have them prepared in advance? Did Lichenstar just come across an older apprentice one morning and go oh! You look like a Pebbletail or did she decide when the to-be warriors were younger? Maybe she made it up, or StarClan told her? Curiosity burned within the young she-cat and they decided that they absolutely had to know right this second.

The fact that Lichenstar is their mother emboldens her to actually go ask about this question that danced in their mind. It was a dreary day, clouds blanketing the sky in a drab grey and puddles covering the ground. A drab landscape, one that naturally occurs after rainfall, one that even Twinklepaw struggled to romanticise. It wasn't impossible but it wasn't an easy task, marching through the mud and puddles she trots up to the RiverClan leader with a smile on her muzzle. "Hey muuummmm" she drawls out, something they tend to do whenever they want it to be known that they want something.

"Have you thought about our warrior names?" She wastes no time getting to the point, though it doesn't stop her from butting her head against Lichenstar's shoulder in greeting. Twinklepaw hoped that they knew what they meant by our warrior names but then again she rarely if ever doubted her. She can't help but be nosy both on her and her siblings behalf, with that they press on with their playful pestering. "Are they cool?" There's a glimmer of hope in her eye, even though they didn't really know what an uncool warrior name would be.

  • It should've been predictable... knowing who their mothers were and what kind of cats they'd been at a similar age. Mischievous, curious and driven by self interest... maybe that wasn't unique to a younger Lichenstar and Hazecloud but it was foretelling of such a prying grin that finds her. The long syllables are indicative of planned chaos, even if mostly harmless... Her brows lift in an amused stare, aiming to swipe her tongue between Twinklepaw's ears as the leggy apprentice butts her head into their shoulder.

"Mmm, hello... tiny blue..." It doesn't take much waiting to break the facade... an amused purr rumbling in her throat near immediately. Of course she was here for an interrogation... impatient and full of wonder... "Cool ones," she asks, feigning distressed shock, "I was just... going to name you... Twinklefur!... Do you think... Horizonpaw would like... being Horizonpelt? I was also... thinking maybe... Eveningears..." These are the blandest she can come up with on the spot.

She shakes her head, a teasing dismissal, "Why... would I tell," she prods, "And ruin... the surprise?"

Warrior names are a funny thing. As an apprentice, Turtledove felt like she would never receive her name. It felt ages away and the threat of not passing her warrior assessment had loomed over her. Then, on the day of her ceremony, it felt like it happened too fast. She still had so much to learn and experience, and she still felt so young. When Lichenstar had called out "Turtledove", though, it had felt so right. That was her name, and it had been her name all along. Lichenstar had just rubbed off the dirt hiding it from her.

The fresh warrior carried a bundle of reeds in her mouth past the parent-child pair and let out a hearty laugh at Lichenstar's reply. Turtledove set her bundle down and flicked an ear in greeting. "If you're lucky, you'll have a bird in your name like me! You could be Twinklehawk or Twinkleduck!" Turtledove laughed at her own joke and picked her bundle of reeds back up to resume her chore.

He'd been pretty set on the name Fernclaw, when he'd been an apprentice. It'd always just sounded right, at least off the tongue - but now, he thought of being Fernclaw and thought it didn't suit him at all. It was a bit like his sister being called Icicleblossom ... sounded good, but didn't fit. And he didn't know how leaders did it, really. Made every name perfectly suit a cat, well- he didn't think he'd ever be cut out for it.

Still, it must be a bit easier with your own kits. The fondness in Lichenstar's voice made Ferngill smile- he wandered close, giving Turtledove a blink of greeting, he swept a silken tail around his paws as he sat. If anyone asked him, he thought Horizonpelt and Twinklefur sounded quite nice, but Lichenstar didn't seem too sold... and neither would her children. "No matter what it is, it'll be you,' he purred, his own fondness seeping into fire-warm tones. "There's something so special about your warrior name. You won't be able to picture yourself as anything else once you have it."

Merlin is walking past on his way to drop off fresh-kill when Twinklepaw's question about warrior names reaches his ears. He'd... never really thought about it before. Honestly, he was more willing to take what anyone would give him - be that Lichenstar or whoever came after her. He shudders. Lichenstar being the one to give him his warrior name was the only correct option. He doesn't want to be named by another cat.

Twinklepaw might end up with a cool name, something that fit her and her personality, and her siblings would likely end up the same way. The question of if she would be happy with that wasn't one Merlinpaw considered, though he does wonder if this is the apprentice's way of trying to subtly pitch to the leader about names she has in mind for herself. Briefly, they consider making a teasing joke, something like 'maybe Twinklenose for how nosy you can be' but they hold their tongue. Teasing is not something they are good at, and their somewhat blunt tone often gets them into trouble with cats who don't understand the joke.

Was Ferngill's assertion correct? Would Merlinpaw believe themself to be anyone other than their warrior name? So they pitch an honest question instead. "Are you worried you won't like your names?"

"I bet Lichenstar has the coolest names for us! Like... Twinkle- uhhhhh, something really cool!" He confirms, excitedly as his ears swivel to catch wind of the conversation, before quickly approaching. He had never been good at naming, proven by his younger days. But the conversation brought memories to the forefront of his mind. "You could name her Twinklefish..." He offered, a light brown paw lifting to cover his snicker.

He wanted to get better at it though, just in case, but how would he ever do that if he didnt practice? He didn't think hed ever be a leader one day, but who says he couldnt imagine himself leading? He imagined Owlstar, one day, but would blink the thoughts away, frowning. That would mean the demise of Lichenstar! And he couldn't have that, at all! He cared about Riverclans leader, and he would much rather settle with being a lead warrior.

Owlpaw turned his scraggly head towards the grey apprentice, gazing over her for a second. "Did you know, my name suggestion for you was gonna be fishkit?" he said, head pulling back as he laughed loudly. "Then! you said fifsh- Shellpaw was sooooo mad!" He was mad back at her, but recalling the memory only brought humor to his gaze now. But he was a bit scared of the other even still, tending to stick closer to Pebbletail.

"Twinklefur!?" She yeowls in shock, the mirth in her gaze showing there's not real outrage over the concept. They had a feeling that it wouldn't be this easy to get a serious answer from their mother, unless Lichenstar actually considers Twinklefur to be a good name? It sounded like her littermates weren't going to have better luck with Horizonpelt and Eveningears... Though it was clear by the unrefined snort that escapes her that Twinklepaw found the latter name to be very funny. "You wouldn't! They're not cool at all" their lip trembles in an exaggerated pout, her lament is sorrowful. While they're sure that this was just a joke she couldn't imagine being subjected to being called Twinklefur for the rest of her life, even if at the time she would just smile and act like it's the coolest name ever since her mum got to be the one to name her. They understand that they would be luckier than most because of that, so even if it was... Twinkefur... She would be willing to accept it.

In comparison, Twinklehawk or Twinkleduck sounded really cool! "Can I have a bird in my name?" she jumps on the opportunity that is provided by the young warrior. Not catching the joke behind it, instead enraptured by the fantastical scenarios where she could have a bird name. Though she can't think of any beyond what has already been said, she thanks the stars it's not up to her to have to make such big choices like that. At least Ferngill was able to steer her mind back to the task that had preoccupied her mind up until getting distracted by thinking of bird names. "Do you like your name Ferngill? It's sooo cool, I don't think I could see you as like... Ferneyes or something" she realised now what Lichenstar had done, just associating them with the first descriptor they saw.

"Hey! Twinklefish is kinda neat actually" she nods at the idea, a grin on her maw as she squints at Owlpaw's snickering. She doesn't really remember her early attempts at speaking, kit memories already having a faint fog covering them much to her dismay. She remembers Shellpaw's reaction though and with a chuckle she can only nod to his question. They can't imagine a world where they were called Fishpaw right now, it just didn't carry the same charm to it at all! With a twitch of her nose she considers Merlinpaw's question, pushing fish adjacent memories aside. "No it's not that, I'm sure I'll like it" there's a pause as she glares at the RiverClan leader with yet another pout "as long as it's not Twinklefur."

"Being a warrior feels sooo far away you know? I just wanted a hint" it's a little silly to admit out loud but isn't that the joy of being an apprentice? To still be able to cling on to silly things like demanding hints about warrior names? Sure they still have to worry about some responsibilities but youth still clings to those who have the paw title and most of the time a youthful innocence is kept with it.

() "now i know we aren't insulting simple warrior names," the warning tone comes teasingly from the blue tabby as he halts beside his sister and lichenstar, nudging the latter with a grin. "lichentail, foxtail, pebbletail," he continues, and swishes his own tail back and forth. "sometimes simple is good."

amusement dances in the sunspark gaze of the new warrior, finding the optics of his fellow, turtledove, and the older ferngill. all cats he feels perfectly exemplify their warrior names to a degree. he glances then at twinklepaw, merlinpaw, owlpaw, still waiting for their full names, still in that state of limbo where they're not quite sure who they are yet. "what other names did you think about for me, mom?" he wonders aloud, finding lichenstar again. the pale she-cat had not been the one to dub him pebble - that had been smokestar, his uncle and discoverer. but that it was lichenstar to dub him pebbletail is just as meaningful to him. one family gave him his first name, the other his second. he is a merge between the two, honoring both.

"twinklefish would be so good," he tells his sister, grinning. "or uh, twinklemouth, 'cause you're such a chatterbox." his tone is warm, well meaning, but as he thinks, he wonders how anyone could ever be leader. it seems tougher than he had first anticipated. "twinkleshine, twinklepool... hm, owlfang, or owlclaw, for you owlie. 'cause you're fierce..." the white capped maw snaps shut, thoughtful eyes narrowing. "stars, this is hard. i dunno how leaders do it."
