private the accent off your lips // midnightash

The chaos, though explosive, was shortlived. Splashdance had not hung around to see the further aftermath once her leader began to speak, the other's blue glare having sent shivers down her spine. She had nudged her mate and tried to direct her away, quickly, before Lichenstar or Hazecloud could extend their fury beyond the apprentices.

Now, however, she walks alongside Midnightash in another lazy stroll. She thinks of Sunpaw and Owlpaw, what they had said, what Midnightash had said. Something claws in her chest and she turns her gaze slightly to the other, her paws stilling in their path. She doesn't wait for the other she-cat to notice she's paused at all.

"Y'know, you weren't much better." Splashdance's words come out wobbly, She straightens her posture and tries again, "Sunpaw... at least she has friends to support her, y'know? You may have followed your mentors every word but..." Her memories flash and there's discomfort, pain, a festering struggle that she's tried to ignore time and time again. "You weren't kind, Midnightash. Not to me. I never got an apology, y'know... for all that you said. For all you did." Her gaze hardens for a moment.

Just say sorry, she waits. You don't have to mean it. I'll pretend you do.

જ➶ If she has to be honest she is happy to get away from that scene. Something that could have been handled in private and now all the clan knows. It is even worse od a thing to have Lichenstar's eyes on them. The idea makes her fur curl and she hopes to never catch her ire like those apprentices did. So she easily lets Splashdance guide her out of camp on a walk. Her paws press against the dry ground, remnants of mud where the water had receded everywhere. She wonders when the next rain will come to get rid of the dull browns. Her gaze slowly lifts up and she does not even realize that the other has stopped walking till she hears her voice. Turning around she looks back to Splashdance then and slowly her ears begin to pull back against her skull. Where is all of this coming from? "Support?" Sure, Sunpaw has Owlpaw but look at where that landed them. Both in trouble and on tick duty and they have been separated. Doesn't sound very supportive to her but what got her is how it some how leads into her own behavior.

"You want me to apologize for being honest to you? So you want me to lie and tell you pretty nothings?" Her eyes narrow then and she debates. Thinking before her maw tenses in a firm frown. "Are you going to make the others apologize for their mean words too. Or because we are together I'm the primary target now?" She almost scoffs then and turns her head away. Anger is a smoke laden thing in her chest wanting to burst into flames but it quickly cools. She's tired of always arguing with others anyway. It's time consuming and bothersome and yet she snaps her eyes back to Splashdance almost accusatory. "I'll apologize if you keep your distance from Pebbletail unless I'm around."

The incredulous tone the other has sends a shiver down her spine. Splashdance holds her tongue from apologizing immediately, from attempting to silence the other and move on. Honesty is what Midnightash calls it. The black furred molly turns her hopeful blue gaze away in understanding - that all the other has said and done in their younger moons was purposeful and right. She was an outsider, the word only to be said with a hiss. She was pathetic when learning to swim moons later than the rest. She was, and still is... not one of them.

"Hey..." she hums in a soft tone, breathing in shakily, but her words don't reach Midnightash as the other continues. A fire burns in amber eyes as she narrows her eyes. Splashdance shakes her head loosely. No, apologies from others should come from them - (but should they come at all, now, she wonders distantly.) Midnightash stops looking at her, and Splashdance takes the moment to collect herself. She doesn't feel like arguing either, not after the mess that unfolded before them. But then, her mate looks at her sharply, and says -

"I'll apologize if you keep your distance from Pebbletail unless I'm around."

Shock is all that she can hold to as she tries to understand the request - no, demand. The quiet nature she tried to adopt for the moment immediately shatters and she spits out an incredulous, "I'm sorry!?" towards Midnightash. "What's the issue with him? He's my friend, Middy - he's always been my friend -"

The heartache. The sadness in his eyes, the sadness that bled into her every time she happened to glimpse it. His friend's indignance in trying to defend him - defend him from what... she now realizes what. She's known, but the longing looks have been written off for moons now. It's only this moment that confirms it and she rattles with the quiet thought of...

"He's just a friend," she sharply cuts that thought short. Her teeth grit together and she crumples beneath harsh golden eyes. Maybe distance from him would quash this feeling. Maybe distance from him would help her relationship with her mate. "I'll talk to him... later, okay? Let's just... let's enjoy right now." She doesn't agree verbally, but she takes the demand in stride, knowing that her reluctance to disagree could be answer enough.
