She couldn't put her life on pause because of her own uncertainty, that much, she was certain about. Regardless of how Mushroompaw felt about being a warrior, the skills she would learn would be vital to adulthood no matter what ended up happening. She needed those skills, and perhaps learning them could be an apt distraction from...well...everything.

"Am I doing this right?" She calls down to Huckleberry, claws digging into a branch to try and scramble her back legs up onto it. It didn't feel like she was, but her most recent growth spurt had resulted in a longer torso and tail, barely stretching her legs. It left her currently quite inept for climbing, though most who looked could see that she had the strong back legs of her grandfather, more than fit for traversing the trees....should they only become the correct length.

  • you can post before huckleberry! just wanted the return to activity to be more lighthearted

Mushroompaw is generally a bleeding heart of an apprentice, and combined with her suspetibility to stress, causes her to be a little more on the numb side of things now that she's an apprentice. Though she tries to be kind and bubbly to everyone she meets, the comfortable hyperactive chaos that was once given to Skyclan's members has dwindled severely in recent weeks, culminating with her apprentice ceremony not long ago. Currently she's struggling to figure out if her friendships and familial figures are worth staying in the clans for, or if she's better off refusing a life of war for one of peace.

Aged emerald eyes looked with pride at the young apprentice above him, oaken fur almost blending in with the tree he was at the base of. Earthsoul had found time to retreat from his Twolegs, and was interested in the progress of the clan’s next generation. The elder’s graying features broke into a grin at Mushroompaw’s question, the uncertainty in her voice bringing back fond (if a little embarrassing) memories from adolescence.

Earthsoul wanted to see Mushroompaw succeed. The former kit seemed to have taken a liking to him (at least the Moggy assumed ‘grunkle’ was something good), so he hoped to help her in any way he could, even it was only moral. As the elder glanced sidelong at Huckleberry, he knew it would he bad form to mentor someone else’s apprentice. Mushroompaw was in capable hands with his similarly-accented acquaintance, so the old man was content to cheer from the sidelines.

A small huff of laughter left Earthsoul as he looked on. “You’re doing no better or worse than anyone does their first time” he called up with a jovial tone. “Just listen to what your mentor says ‘n everythin’ will work itself out!”

Sharpeye used to enjoy climbing, up until his accident a number of moons ago that had left him bed ridden due to his injuries. It left him feeling somewhat wary as he watched Mushroompaw ascend up into the canopy above and he dreaded the idea of her falling. Still, despite how he was feeling on the inside he didn't let it surface externally as he maintained his usual neutral composure as he came to sit near Earthsoul. "Keep your body low, it can help with balance once on the branches."

"They're both right." Orangeblossom calls up, something wistful tugging at her voice. If Mushroompaw didn't fall out of the tree, and got down safely without assistance from Huckleberry, she would be doing better than about half of the apprentices on their first climb. Cream-and-white flashes behind her vision when she blinks, and Orangeblossom shakes her head to clear the memory. She pauses beside Sharpeye and Earthsoul, though stays standing despite the ache in her bad leg.

"Pay attention to how much the branch sways under you. Your back legs will hold a lot of your weight as you climb up, but balance is how you stay up there."
