Her mate is a warrior now, her mate is a warrior now! Even as grief clings to the edges of her pelt she practically trembles in excitement over the idea of being able to call Kitestorm her mate. She lingers behind at night, it's not safe to do so but she takes that risk for them gladly. She tries to not do it often but every so often after she dismisses Jellypaw to join the other daylighters on their retreat home she instead seeks out a black tabby pelt. It's done so with ease, it's light enough in the orange and pink of the sky for their pelt to contrast against the surroundings of SkyClan camp. She doesn't bother to announce her presence, the thunderous rumble of a purr from her is hopefully enough. The lead warrior finds herself falling into step with them, plumy tail seeking out the serpentine like one of their own. "Figured I'd stay back tonight, Kitestorm" she murmurs softly against their ear with a giggle.

It's easy to be affectionate with them, to lose herself against the warmth of their fur. "I thought about staying back tonight, if there's room in your nest for one more?" She's often pretty strict about not blending the lines between her two homes. Just one night wouldn't hurt, besides she knows that it would make them over the moon. Recalling their nest building fondly, even if the invitation had been just a platonic one. She's not here just for the pleasures of talking with Kitestorm, she's also here's for business. There had been talks of the rogues again, Kite's siblings, the two parties always just missing one another.

"I heard your siblings have left, for the mountains right?" She asks curiously, tilting her head and gesturing for them to join her in the quieter corners of camp. Deciding that this conversation would be better had between them in a less busy area, without risking leaving camp. "You don't talk about them much my dear" she avoids judgement, it's not her place after all. "I would love to hear about them, if you'd like to. We could trade stories about family" she doesn't mind that Kitestorm is a private cat, happy to take whatever she's willing to give.

Their new name cloaks them with a sense of pride, Kitestorm receives congratulations with their head held high and shoulders rolled back. They found themself pulled from their mate's side and as the crowd disperses (and the reality of the moments hits Kitestorm) they realize Florabreeze was not at their side any longer. Exhaustion from having to interact with so many of their clanmates washes over Kite as they search the camp for the familiarly large shape of Florabreeze. A prickle of worry begins as they worry Florabreeze may have left already, thinking Kitestorm was ignoring her as they got wrapped up too much with conversing- but this concern dissipates as they hear a boisterous purr from behind.

Kitestorm flips around and their eyes immediately soften at the sight of their mate. They close the gap between them and the Maine Coon, pressing their head firmly against the chest so they can feel the vibrations of Florabreeze's sweet purrs. Kitestorm straightens and stands on their toes to lap their tongue against Florabreeze's forehead before quickly bumping their head against Florabreeze's shoulder. When Florabreeze leans down to whisper something nearly indiscernible in their ear, Kitestorm could have sworn it was something about staying. With a start, Kitestorm pulls away slightly and raises their brow curiously, a silent request to repeat herself, which she does anyways.

"You are sure?" They're aware of Florabreeze's intentions to maintain their boundaries when it comes to their double life. The proposition to stay means much to the dark tabby, especially knowing these facts. Kitestorm's ear twitches with excitement though and this feeling surely bleeds into their airy words, "I always have room for you... my love." Kitestorm pulls away from Florabreeze and gestures for her to follow them to the den, but pauses at their mate's next words.

The mention of family, their siblings, force a slump upon Kitestorm's shoulders and they warily return to Florabreeze's side, reluctantly surrendering to letting Florabreeze guide them towards the stream near the elder's den- a quiet place, harboring them from eavesdroppers. Their mind flips and needles of worry seem to poke at the base of Kitestorm's neck... the tabby did not expect to be caught so off guard and a pinprick of frustration towards Florabreeze gathers in a furrow between their brows. This evening was supposed to be a moment of cheeriness, joy maybe, but even prior to Florabreeze's inquiries a cloak of stress clothed Kitestorm. This source of stress could never be spoken of to their mate, which bites at Kitestorm all hours of the day; and so after some lightning speed reflection, Kitestorm realizes it may do some good to shed at least a quarter of what eats at them. And so they they feel they must answer and lets the frustration they feel go, which is easy to do with when they finally raise their gaze from dark paws and focuses on Florabreeze's encouraging expression. Kitestorm could never harbor resentment to her love.

"The mountains... so Vixen says," Kitestorm murmurs. They try to focus on restraining their tail from whipping uneasily but with a huff resigns to the fact that sometimes emotions just... must be visible. Vixen, who may or may not have murdered some from this very clan... "I was closest with Shrike, one of my younger sisters..." They screw their eyes shut, remembering their last night in the Twolegplace with the blue, riddle-speaking cat. Their coconspirator in a violent, pointless killing. With this thought, Kitestorm bats open their eyes and shuffles closer to Florabreeze. "I just need a moment..." The whisper comes hollow, strained even, as it clicks within Kitestorm that there is so much of themself which they may never be able to fully show her mate.

"My love... I've heard you speak of Diddo before... is he sibling by blood?" Olive eyes stare up at Florabreeze, pleading the she-cat to entertain this question so the tabby may have time to compose themself. The gaze also comes as a promise: they'll share more about their family.

There's a belief that she's starting to be able to read Kitestorm better, what each micro expression could possibly be. She hopes the twitch of their ear would be an indication that they're elated over her suggestion. As they walk she tries to link their tails but Florabreeze knows the conversation she's bringing up is hard. As such her mate may just slip away from her tails grasp.

“You don't believe her then?” her mind catches that phrasing, so vixen says. Was there doubt in her beloved's mind? Her citrine gaze doesn't move anywhere then towards the black tabby, with a soft smile. Completely disarming, unaware of that slightest pin prick or frustration aimed towards her. Her feathery tail moves to curl around herself as she sits down against them. Looking around at the quiet corner of camp that surrounded the pair then back to the warrior beside her.

“Do you know if Shrike went with the others?” Biting her tongue before she can add ‘did you get to say goodbye?’ Instead she is aware of the thin ice she treads on. Kitestorm is secretive, they value their privacy and she respects that want to protect it. “Of course, take your time” she purrs comfortingly and aims to brush her cheek against theirs if they would allow it.

The question about her own family brings pause. A pink tongue darts to swipe against her white splotched maw in thought. “No, not by blood. He and her sister were introduced to my home after…” Her thoughts trail off to blue fur, of snapping fangs and a heated gaze of fury. “After Magnolia was taken” she concluded with a gulp of air.

“I call him my family though, that's my brother as far as I'm concerned” they're all the other had for a while. Sometimes she worries that Ditto doesn't have anyone now, even though she cares and makes time for them. “Why do you ask?” She presumes it's because her beloved mate is curious but she thought to ask just in case there's something deeper for reasoning.

Kitestorm does not believe Vixen lied to them about where she was going, but simply feels an unease surrounding the destination- perhaps they'd rather sound distrustful of Vixen instead of accepting that their family's path has diverted far from their reach. "I can't be sure... I- I think so?" They wonder too if Shrike had gone, Kitestorm struggles to remember exactly which siblings their sister claims to be going with her to the mountains. They're feeling lost, confused; hurt on behalf of their siblings for not explaining their own path led them into the heart of the forest. The heat of Florabreeze's breath rouses Kitestorm and though they feel they do not deserve affection from their mate they lean into her presence. They brush their cheek against hers, the contact pulls Kitestorm closer to the reality and they exhale deeply. Olive eyes sweep upwards to maintain eye contact with their mate as she speaks of Ditto.

The brief mention of Magnolia indicates to Kitestorm they must comfort Florabreeze and so they wriggle closer- closing the gap they had forcefully placed between themselves- and leans their weight into the white-splotched cat, twisting their neck to stare at her as she speaks. The sorrow surrounding the subject of Florabreeze's daughter scratches guilt and sympathy through themself, guilt that they can't somehow summon a successful reconciliation between the two. There's also a disconnect: Kitestorm can never truly understand their mate's feelings, or so they believe, as they've not experienced the deep-rooted love between mother and kit.

"I ask because... I just want to know your family..." Kitestorm explains. "As you're my family now, Flora... and someday I hope we can be one for Magnolia..." Their tail flips uncertainly as the words leave their maw. Was it presumptuous to insinuate they would like to be considered part of Florabreeze's family or would they remain on the fringes? Worse, would it be insolent to claim they could one day they'll... be a parent to Magnolia too? The tabby wishes so earnestly they've not overstepped in some way by suggesting they could construct their own family- blood or not, it would not matter to Kitestorm.

"Much of my siblings... struggle with... decency." They rapidly speak instead of letting their last words settle, instead they wish to share about their family as they had promised; Kitestorm is scared anyways that maybe they've tried to stick themself to Florabreeze's family too soon in their relationship. "I do not claim to be perfect-" They swallow harshly. "-but I joined to... become something more, do you understand? They chose to continue in their ways. I did not want to continue being so..."

Their voice uncharacteristically wobbles, sticks like sap to their tongue and oozes out, "So cruel." Kitestorm does not need to further explain, they already suspect Florabreeze must think about the life her mate led outside of the clan. The emotion in their voice insinuates all. Kitestorm hadn't been much different from their siblings. "I was at my wit's end, you see... if I remained with my family... I'd never live a life to be proud of."

"And so this is why I resist telling you about them, Florabreeze. They're not like Ditto or Sfogliatella."

Kitestorm exhales and shuffles their black paws. "I still love them all the same. Speaking of them makes me miss them... and- and it's filling me with guilt, guilt for abandoning them but also even loving... Coyote and Vixen too... and this looks bad upon me, hm?"

She wonders if there's a conscious choice to switch between calling her Flora and Florabreeze, or if it just the dips and rise of conversation. Either way what is the trigger for it? Does she feel more comfortable calling her any specific iteration? Is one a beacon of safety while one is stifling and formal. It's a quiet question, she doesn't wish to ruin their time together by asking about it. There's a spark between them as Kitestorm closes the gap once more, even as Florabreeze dwells and laments there is an instinctual purr rumbling from her. She drips her head to rest it ontop of the warriors for a brief moment, taking the time to enjoy the entwining of their body heat.

Kitestorm says that she's their family now, and that together they can be one for Magnolia. She hadn't thought about it, making a point to not get her hopes up over her daughter ever wanting anything to do with her or her mate after their first and possibly last conversation. I didn't even know her eyes weren't blue it's a troubling thought, only highlighting the gap between them. She couldn't force any interaction given that fact, that blood is the sole thing that ties them because otherwise that's a stranger who shares similar characteristics. Even then, if she's honest she can see more of the she-cats sire in her rather than herself.

"If she would... like that then I would like that too" she doesn't wish to sell false hopes. The pair can dream though, of being parents to her (even if she is an adult) and the group of them being a family. There's a tug at her heart, a longing she hadn't realised was present. That desire for familial ties with Kitestorm, it's not quite ravenous though, she's content with what they have.

She presses her nose to her mates cheek as they talk about their own family again, ears perked to show that she's listening to whatever it is that they would want to tell her. So cruel, is the words that Kitestorm uses. Florabreeze doesn't think of them as cruel, though there is an inherent cruelty one surely must have to survive in Twolegplace without Twolegs. She doesn't dwell on it, the Kite of the past doesn't make up the warrior laying beside her.

"You can still tell me about them, I'm sure not all memories are bad, right? Even if they're cruel?" She has a big heart, not naive by any means but she understands the bias of family. The black tabby wouldn't blame Kitestorm if they still held love for those who had been in their life for so long. It seems that they do still love them, which is good and it brings a smile to her face.

"I don't think this looks bad for you, they're still family. Just because your loyalities are with SkyClan now doesn't mean you can't miss or cherish those who had known you're whole life." With that she tilts her head to lick the top of the tabby's head, between their eyes and above their nose. "Guilt is normal, I feel guilt for Magnolia. Don't feel ashamed of your guilt, my love. That proves that you're alive and that you're feeling. Guilt shows you care."

It has always been a fact to Kitestorm they won't leave behind kits of their own, but there'd also been a prior acceptance they'd never fall in love. Life began to surprise them upon their arrival to the forest. These surprises prove to themself they do care, they do deserve more than a life of solitude outside of their direct family. The offer, its a veiled suggestion, that they may be a parent to Magnolia as well is first an effort to somehow comfort Florabreeze but admittedly it may be partially selfish. Topic of conversation has shifted but an aftertaste of desire lingers from it. There's such ease imagining themself beside Florabreeze with a kit between them, a perfect mix of both. Could they be a parent? Florabreeze would be such a fantastic mother... they'd be able to learn together, navigate parenthood together.

'Guilt shows you care.' It does... doesn't? Kitestorm's inscrutable features softer, revealing the relief these words must bring them. Their ivory fangs glint in the moonlit darkness as their maw warps into a slight smile as Florabreeze laps at their face, their nose tilting up to receive the lick. When Florabreeze withdraws Kitestorm's head cocks as she stares at her mate wondrously. "You, you always say the right thing... to make me feel better," she murmurs, shaking her head. "I've never thought that way, about guilt, before... but that..." There is a quick pause as they search for words before they continue, "...comforts me."

"One story," Kitestorm announces with a dramatic swish of their tail over the sandy ground, tossing themself into Florabreeze's downy chest. "Some Twolegs are very filthy. There are overfilled dumpsters... it attracts pest, which Towlegs don't like." An airy chuckle ruffles Florabreeze's chest when Kitestorm thinks about the absurdity of Twolegs disliking an abundant foodsource. "Me and my littermates found out about this and I swear, I've never felt so full...! One of us would scare them out and it would just be... a flood of mice, I never saw my parents so happy, or Vixen too. It's hard to believe we were so young."

It feels good to share something good with Florabreeze, instead of becoming wrapped up in their own guilty conscience. It isn't long when they share, "My most prized memory from then could be my siblings being born. Seeing them... so small and vulnerable, so fierce though... I was... always so scared for them when they were little." Kitestorm looks up at Florabreeze and smiles slightly, blinking slowly and affectionately as she basks in the dazzling glow of her gaze. "I love you so much... I'm happy to begin again with you."
