camp THE KIDS ARE TAKING THE STREETS [ ✦ ] bored kit

Boredom is dangerous in the paws of a kit like Halfkit. Boredom often leads her to try to find a solution, and usually the solution is something that the adults didn't usually like. Starting a fight with a ThunderClan kitten, sneaking into the elders den with a dead spider and placing it on one of them while they slept. She was very good at finding ways to entertain herself. Today was one of those days though. The kind where absolutely nothing sounded fun. She sits outside the nursery and with almost a depressed look on her face she rolls a moss ball around underneath one white tipped paw, gaze half-lidded and a sigh heavy on her lips. What she wouldn't give for anyone to be back in the nursery with her right now. After all of Brightshine and Wolfsong's kits had graduated, the only option for playtime was her sister. And Tanglekit wasn't exactly a bundle of energy and joy right now. She would much rather sulk and be sad and miserable then enjoy the time they were to spend here. Halfkit does not understand her right now.

It is when a cat finally walks past her that she springs to life. It doesn't matter who it is, Halfkit jumps to her feet and rushes to get in front of them, to block their path. "I'm bored!" She declares "Do you want to play a game with me?" her eyes are hopeful, gaze begging for relief from her self-induced solitude, from the sluggish feeling that is a clear indication that maybe she should be napping instead but that she stubbornly ignores.

──ᨒ↟↟ᨒ↟ᨒ↟↟ᨒ── He regards the kitten evenly as she boldly obstructs his way forward. Boredom seems easily cured by other kittens, but Larkkit is evidently alone for the moment— and outside of the nursery, where her highest chances of finding a proper playmate are. Unlike Sunstride, Wolfsong exercises greater wariness in interacting with Larkkit and Ouzelkit; his mate has a generous heart and Wolfsong admires that in him, but Wolfsong is not certain whether to trust Sootspot's description of events. Or Sootstar's, for that matter.

Since Weaselclaw's passing, her behavior has become far more erratic. For how long can Wolfsong feasibly describe it as grief?

He exhales slowly. Rather than immediately acquiesce to whatever game the child has in mind, Wolfsong instead asks, "Do the other kits not play with you?" He scrutinizes her small face. "Hm. You seem sleepy, Larkkit; perhaps a nap would be better."

WOLFSONG of WINDCLAN FORMER ROGUE TURNED MEDICINE CAT. 38 MOONS, HE/HIM, NPC X NPC. MATES WITH SUNSTRIDE (07/05/2023). BIOGRAPHY, PINTEREST, & PLAYLIST.
  • ★★★☆☆ WOUNDS: You're (mostly) in safe paws. You'll know if he's less experienced if he asks for your permission to try a treatment. No wound can scare him away from knowledge.
★★★☆☆ INFECTION: He can prevent most infections. If you feel feverish, let him know; he'll hum thoughtfully over herbs and sniff your wound before saying, "With your blessing..."
  • ★☆☆☆☆ ACHES & PAINS: If you complain to him of pain, he'll ask where. If it's a headache, you'll likely feel a bit better. For anything else, "Try this, if you'd like, and tell me how you feel."
★☆☆☆☆ BROKEN BONES: At best. he can ask you to remain lying down in the den. He may try to distract you with conversation while he considers what herb to feed you.
  • ★★★★★ TRAVELING HERBS: Going somewhere? No worries; Wolfsong knows just what you need to stay hale and healthy during your journey. The rest is up to you.
★★☆☆☆ KITTING: Thanks to Starlingheart, he's better prepared for the arrival of kits, but any complications will need a little faith and a lot of luck.
  • ★☆☆☆☆ POISONS: It's best if you avoid eating anything unfamiliar to you— it's probably just as unfamiliar to Wolfsong. The best he can do is offer you yarrow and sit with you.
★★☆☆☆ ILLNESS: If it's white or greencough, you'll likely recover. Otherwise, prepare for odd concoctions and the usual request that you consent to a little trial-and-error.

In spite of Rattleheart's anxiety over the circumstances that had brought both Halfkit and her sibling to Windclan, she had been trying her best not to make the pair feel ostracized, or neglected. She didn't believe for a second that Sootstar's story was true - and what she had heard about Smogmaw had practically confirmed that - but that didn't mean she wanted any tales of abuse coming from the children regarding Windclan's treatment of them. Hopefully, whenever they made it back to Shadowclan - which she prayed to Starclan would be something that happened soon - the other clan's ire would be focused on those directly responsible.

This meant that the tunneler wore a friendly smile on her muzzle as she approached where Halfkit and Wolfsong were, purring a warm greeting in the medicine cat's direction before she focused her attention on the poor bored kit. "Wolfsong might be right, I've always found getting some rest to be a good use of my time." Then again, she was a fully grown warrior - chances to just relax and rest for a while were few and far between when she wasn't deathly ill. Things weren't exactly the same for a little one like Halfkit, who probably thought she had spent more than enough time curled up in the nursery.

Unable to keep that twinge of sympathy from gripping her, Rattleheart spared a glance around camp before a sigh left her. "Though... if that doesn't sound that appealing, maybe we could convince some of the others over for a game of mossball." She could recall seeing some of the kits in the nursery playing before, enthusiastically batting the ball back and forth with such enthusiasm that one would've thought they were hunting a particularly juicy piece of prey. She didn't quite understand the enthusiasm, considering she hadn't ever really played it as a kit, but hopefully it was something Halfkit enjoyed.

Newly-made apprentice, and she's already doing chores - Finchpaw would stick her tongue out if her mouth weren't full of moss at the moment, carting it all around camp to make sure that all the various nests around camp were refreshed. Well, at least she still gets to go outside of camp and stuff, but that feels awfully far away right now, considering she's not outside right at that moment. Maybe if she begged Fogbound enough, he'd take her back out for...something, anything, after she finishes up here. A new pep in her step, she continues her trot across to camp, right up to the nursery, where she only just manages to draw up short before colliding right into the stopped Wolfsong, ducking to his side instead. Somehow, she manages to keep a steady hold on most of the moss, though it's quickly deposited onto the ground when she takes in the scene before her.

"Did somebody say a game? I just so happen to have some moss right here with me..." she trails off enticingly, leaving off the fact that the moss is actually probably supposed to be lining for Lark-kit's nest. It's fine, though, she's pretty sure, since the kits would probably end up pulling moss from nests within the nursery out for mossballs sooner or later, anyways. Even though she and Lark-kit are now separated by a whole different rank, it doesn't mean Finchpaw considers her all different now, or anything - mostly it's just that Lark-kit can't go out of camp yet, and that Finchpaw has to do chores and stuff now. Which, speaking of, maybe she should actually finish up what she was doing before abandoning the task entirely.

"I gotta take it into the nursery, you know, make sure everything is all good in there, but if a piece of it were to go missing - oh, say, mossball-sized - well, that'd sure be a shame, wouldn't it?" Mischief glimmering in her eyes, Finchpaw snatches up less moss than she'd started with and makes to slink her way towards the nursery entrance. It was a little emptier in there now, since Brightshine and all them have moved out, so it shouldn't take too long; maybe when she was done, she could go find Fogbound, report back, and add a new chore onto her list for the day. Entertaining the kits counts as a chore, right? It would sure reflect good on her to actually volunteer to do chores, she thinks, and anyways, it's not like playing with Lark-kit would actually be a chore - honestly, it might even be as fun as getting to go out with her mentor for the rest of the day. Well, maybe. Definitely fun, though.

Halfkit likes Sunstride a pretty big deal, but if she is honest she doesn't understand what he sees in a boring stick-in-the-mud like Wolfsong. Maybe Wolfsong is the reason why Featherpaw and Rivepaw are the way they are. She does not like the pair of siblings terribly much but she does like Bearpaw. They have other siblings too, she knows, but not enough is known about them to pass judgement and therefor she withholds it. It does make her wonder though, how much of her was Smogmaw and how much was Halfshade? She supposes that now she'll never know but it would be nice... To Wolfsong she makes a fake pouty face "Haha very funny" she says, except it isn't "All the other kits are apprentices now! And Tanglekit is being boring and taking a nap which I do not want!" thus leaving her to her own devices, to play by herself or turn to other more... desperate.. means of entertainment. "I'm a big girl and big girls don't need naps" she reaffirms, fighting back a yawn so hard that her eyes start to water.

Finally, a cat with some sense comes along. At first, Rattleheart is with Wolfsong and she opens her mouth in indignation, only to have her fiery retort die on her tongue when the black and white tom proposes a game of mossball instead. "Mossball sounds fun..." she agrees readily, just happy that no adult is going to force her into a nap she does not want to take. And then Finchpaw is there and Finchpaw is like super cool she thinks because she is Pinkpaw's sister and Halfkit loves Pinkpaw. "It would be!" she agrees with a giggle that matches the others mischievous tone. Yeah, Finchpaw was definitely cool in her book! "Tanglekit is in there sleeping right now so maybe you could play with us Finchpaw! Just like... until she wakes up?" it would be awesome if she could, because then at least she wouldn't have to go against only adults. That seemed like no fair.
