⊱⊰ His denmates are not Hopekit’s favorite cats within the clan. Coalkit and his other littermates have gained the little lilac tom’s affection, of course, but the rest are only given icy stares unless he’s in a particularly good mood.

Today is, unfortunately for Scarletkit, not one of the dayd where Hopekit is in a good mood. He’s upset because his nest had an uncomfortable lump in it, and every word that the she-kit says makes his ears pin themselves back tighter against his head. Eventually, he’s had enough. Maybe if he pretends she’s not there, she’ll go away. "Did somebody… hear something?" His deep copper gaze avoids landing on Scarletkit, and instead flutters around her edges like he really can’t see her standing there. When he does happen to look at her, he allows his eyes to go out of focus as though he’s looking through the other kit.

A large ear flicks, and he makes a show of looking over both his shoulders as he glances around. "It’s like somebody’s talking… but I don’t hear anything. That’s weird." His comment is made with a tone of boredom, and he raises a paw to wipe it languidly across his muzzle. As he looks past her once more, his eyes catch on Scarletkit’s, and the beginning of a smile touches at his muzzle—he’s quick to shove it back down, but the damage is already done.

Scarletkit likes her cousins well enough. It’s nice to have built-in companions, friends she can always count on to hang out. But the kits they share a nest with? Namely Hopekit…now that is a kitten she cannot stand. He is irritable, grouchy, and annoying, and seems to really have a special distaste for her in particular. She has no idea what she even did to him! It’s beyond frustrating, but like the mature kit she is, she decides to rise above and be the bigger cat. “Do you guys want to play something?” She mews to the other kits, eyes flicking towards Hopekit as he turns towards her suddenly. For a heartbeat, she thinks he may actually accept her offer, but her ears prick in surprise when he acts like he didn’t hear her!

Her bicolor eyes narrow and her ears pin to her skull in annoyance. “Hey!” She jabs, but he continues, eyes glazing right over her. Anger boils in her stomach as she gets to her paws furiously, huffing in his direction. “I’m right here, Hopekit! That’s not funny!” Her cheeks grow hot as slitted eyes sear into his pelt, her long tail lashing to and fro.

Scarletkit and Beetlekit, at least in the brutish tom's mind, were like peas in a pod. If he could count on any of his cousins first, it would be her. They had just finished a round of mossball, or maybe, Beetlekit had, and Scarletkit was mewing about starting another game. His mouth had opened to respond to her, but his ears twitched as Hopekit spoke in a dull tone. He exhaled hotly at his milk sibling, vision flashing at him .

Now, Beetlekit was stuck inbetween a rock and a hard place. Hopekit had grown up with him- but Scarletkit was acutally related by blood. Green eyes shifted between them, and it only took a few moments before it boiled over and Beetlekit snapped. "Come ON, Hopekit. Are you deaf, or something? Got mites in your ear?" Vision snapped to the dark-pelted cousin. "You aren't much better! He's just trying to get a rise out of you."

Beetlekit leapt to his paws, sticking his tongue out at both of them. "Your at... attit... your moods stink!"

Never before she moved to ThunderClan had Thundergleam ever heard the prattling arguments of kits. It was a wonderful sound! Life and passion, gleaming from each tiny soul... and how lucky they were to grow up in a place like this. With littermates, no less. Having denmates was a concept completely lost on Thundergleam; she was an only child, raised by a sole parent. Thus, equally lost on her was the concept of teasing one's denmates- teasing anyone, for that matter...

"Now, now, children..." she cooed softly, as knowing and present as the full moon, pale light beaming down upon them. That's not funny, flowed indignant magma from Scarletkit's mouth, and Beetlekit claimed their attitude was terrible- or tried to, at least. Oh, but she would alleviate this frustration! "You should not judge what another cat hears and sees... and frustration is natural, when one is misunderstood," she explained. "Meet your Clanmates with compassion. Like so... Hopekit, why is Scarletkit imperceivable to you?"

That should do the trick!

⊱⊰ The other kit doesn’t find his actions funny, and Hopekit is forced to disguise a self-satisfied grin. Scarletkit responds exactly how he wanted her to. She’s angry and all riled up, and the tomkit is free to continue ignoring her even as she begins to shout at him. That’s not funny, she protests, but Hopekit absolutely thinks it is. At last a smile slips across his muzzle, though he’s careful to avoid looking directly at her—the ruse is still up, after all. He tips his head back in a dramatic yawn, blinking slowly. But his fun is interrupted by Beetlekit, who starts yelling at him like the no-fun kit that he is.

Hopekit’s big ears swivel toward his black-furred cousin, disdain veiling his expression. He isn’t deaf, and he certainly doesn’t have any mites. Gentlestorm would have told him if he had any kind of hearing impediment (or is it impairment?), so he’s sure of it. "No, I just don’t know who you’re talking to," he responds once Beetlekit is finished scolding his tortoiseshell sister as well. But then the other kit declares that their moods stink! He protests, "My mood doesn’t stink, it smells perfectly fine!" He’s about to say more, but then someone else joins their little group.

The pale she-cat, the one with the creepy eyes and odd manner of speaking, turns those creepy eyes upon him. Hopekit grimaces. His gaze carefully dances around her face, avoiding meeting her eyes—and just as he had with Scarletkit, the boy pretends that he doesn’t see her at all. "Oh, Scarletkit, you’re finally here!" He chirps out, a faux smile spreading across his face. Now that he’s found someone even more uncool than his cousin, the lilac tom decides to change victims. "But now it’s like… someone else is gone."
