It was tiring to only be Puddlekit, she was slated for bigger things and she knew it. In her mind despite being only three moons old she was ready to become Puddlepaw. That was clearly enough time and as far she was concerned all the apprentices were practically kits. She had seen them in their bouts of tears, moments of shouting or overreacting in some manner. It was gross, why cry, scream or whoop in joy? There was truly nothing that bad to be upset about or anything that joyous to spark being so messy. If they could be dubbed paws then why couldn't she?

Shaking her slick pelted body she sets off on her mission for the day. Buzzardkit was by her side because why wouldn't he be? What could be a better way to spend her time then with her sister? The chimera couldn't list one and was confident that her littermate wouldn't be able to either. The clearing is bustling this morning, warriors and apprentices going on patrols or attending whatever duties they're obligated to participate in.

It would be more difficult than she imagined to find one by themself but she latches her sight on her prize easily enough. A warrior who didn't look awfully busy, granted, a warrior could be mid conversation and she would deem them not busy. Ears twitch with interest as she marches up to the warrior in question. “Buzzardkit and I want to be apprentices.” She blinks up at them, meow demanding in tone.

There is no interest if this warrior can provide such an honour to them or not. “Can you show us warrior moves so we can show we're ready?” Her purr is one that carries a saccharine tone. Too sweet to be genuine, a by-product of studying the queens and other adults around her and learning what tones are used to get what they want. She links her tail with her siblings' own, emphasising that this would be a joint venture as she wouldn't leave their side.

I SAW A PHOTO, YOU LOOK JOYOUS

they don't really know what to make of warriors. most of them do not interest buzzardkit. wormwatcher is cool enough but a lot of warriors lie. they hate liars. a lot of them don't answer their questions in a way they like. they hate that, too. theyve swore, at some point, they'd never in their life be like that. the truth comes first, even if it hurts. not that buzzardkit cares what hurts and what doesn't. feelings don't interest them all too much, but they curiously wish to know about them anyways. such is the life of a curious kitten.

he twitches his whiskers as he follows after puddlekit, careful to not wake his other siblings and his papa, his kinked tail twitching behind him as he walks beside her. he stops when she does, tilting his head as he looks at the warrior. puddlekit speaks and immediately an uninterested face twists his features.

"ugh. n....ot you."

she decides, as she turns to find a different warrior than the one her sister has happened upon. not good enough. she wants someone cool. better. if she gets a dud of a warrior again, she is going to be very upset. with a huff, she prods at the next warrior she sees, yellow eyes wide and staring. it might have been uncomfortable to look at but she didn't care.

"you w.....ill do. teach m,....e warrior stuff n....ow."

it demands with a twitch of crinkled whiskers. if this one didn't teach it what it wanted, it would find someone who would.

Despite how Puddlekit thinks of herself, Mirepurr only sees the opposite — a too-young kit for the harshness of life, perfectly suited for the safety and warmth of the nursery. It is difficult to look at cats her age and remember how Clans used to deem them ready for apprenticeship; even those two remaining moons means a lot in the long run. Mirepurr themself had been subjected to it... but back then, it had felt entirely normal, and like any other youngster, they had been thrilled to be given such an opportunity.

They are lucky to finish their conversation with a fellow warrior when Puddlekit approaches. She wastes no time and gets right to the point.

"Is that so?" She would make an excellent apprentice, just based on enthusiasm alone, when she is ready. "Why, of course!" Puddlekit does not need to know they are not the best choice to show off battle moves.

Buzzardkit, bless his heart, makes his opinion quite clear. It catches Mirepurr off-guard despite how obvious he's made his disdain towards them; at least there is no need to ponder, not when he straight out says what's on its mind. The rejection is sharp, but the abundant experience Mirepurr possesses about kits means it does not come across as too personal.

Mirepurr turns a faux-hurt expression towards Puddlekit. "I'm afraid Buzzardkit doesn't like me very much," they say, watching her tabby form leave out of the corner of their eyes. "So... our training montage is postponed, then?"

Unlike her sibling there is no immediate uninterest towards Mirepurr, if anything she had assumed that there would be an advantage to having someone who’s meant to be as impressive as them teach her warrior moves. To her delight they agree, nothing visible on her expression to show that she was delighted over this fact. The huff of air as she puffed her chest out was the closest indication that she was satisfied with this outcome. “Good. I want you to show me the best one you know” nothing would start simple for her, she wouldn’t have it.

Yet it seems Buzzardkit had no interest in learning from them, quick to dismiss and turn to someone else. Her ear flicks in their direction, head swivelling so her eyes could follow the path her sister takes. Right to someone else… While she was proud of their sibling for going out of their way to follow after the best warrior for it there was also a bitter disappointment. They did everything together and she was a stubborn creature, refusing to part from Mirepurr after they had agreed to show her stuff. A neutral expression ticks to a frown for a split second before shifting back to its blank slate, this feeling would pass and she would never be upset with her sibling for long.

“You must have done something to deserve it” she speaks with a sympathetic nod, at least this is what she thinks sympathy is? In her mind there was no reason why Buzzardkit would just dislike another cat. She twitches her tail, kneading her paws against the muddy ground of the marsh. “But you can earn me liking you and maybe then she might like you too” truthfully she doubted it but she wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip by. She just might become an apprentice early over this after all! She stares up at the deputy with a frown “why would it be post… poned? What does that mean?” Maybe that meant that it would be sped up!

Reactions: BUZZARDKIT.
When she sees the pair of kits accost Mirepurr, her first thought is, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that.

So, naturally, as is the way of her life, Buzzardkit decides they are not satisfied with Mirepurr for whatever reason, and turns around to find another option. As it turns out, Sharpshadow is the other option. ( Though- that soundd a bit full of herself, didn't it? More accurately, he just so happened to be the closest warrior next to Mirepurr. ) For a kit, she was pretty damn good at being judgmental. Sharpshadow finds it a little difficult to meet her eyes, already. Who knows what this would spell would Buzzardkit's future...

" Wh- um- me? " Yes, her apparently. Warrior stuff now, the little hairball demands, and Sharpshadow finds herself blinking, jaw slightly agape. " Uhhh... " She feels like she hardly survived her first apprentice, and that's when she actually had time to think about what she was gonna say before she said it. She doesn't really know what to do being put on the spot like this...

A little ( or like, a lot ) aimless, Sharpshadow finds herself glancing to Mirepurr, and apparently, if the kits were not training as a group, that cancelled the cool warrior moves. Sharpshadow could offer to do joint training with them and Mirepurr. Or she could not. Not sounds pretty enticing, if he's honest.

You must have done something to deserve it, claims Puddlekit. Sharpshadow wonders what that could possible be, especially considering how aggravatingly nice Mirepurr generally was. Maybe the fact that they had so little about them to be angry at is what made Buzzardkit angry, and if that was the case, Sharpshadow supposes they'd have common ground... Was that a good or a bad thing? Earning a kits like probably involved a lot of fat marsh hare's and letting them go where they shouldn't be, she imagines. Luckily, she isn't the one on trial here.

" Postponed is when you say you're gonna do something later, but it actually means you're not gonna do it at all, " she says, and completely honestly, did not think of what threat this may pose to Mirepurr's livelihood until after she says it, but she already did, so, whatever. Should he make some attempt to save them? " But um, I mean... y'know you guys have a whole six moons of apprentice-ing, and then a whole, like, forever of warrior-ing coming up after that. No reason to hurry... "

Puddlekit is decisive. She demands the best out of Mirepurr, and perhaps if she was just a little bit older, they would feel nervous about whether they can give her their best or not. Buzzardkit, too, is quick to decide for itself: it is difficult to not erupt into a bark of laughter when they see Sharpshadow's face, or more specifically, the absolute desperation to get out of this new situation.

"I probably did," they agree whole-heartedly with Puddlekit's claim. The fact that Mirepurr does not know the reason is beside the point. Buzzardkit made a decision — now it is up to Mirepurr to live with it, or change it.

Mirepurr nods along Sharpshadow's explanation; it is easy to slip into their regular speech patterns and forget that such a word has likely not been used in the vicinity of these kittens yet. Battle training, expanding vocabulary... today is turning out to be quite the session for Mirepurr, and their official apprentice is not even nearby.

Sharpshadow is quick to throw Mirepurr under the bus. "Woah, hey-" They can't have Puddlekit dislike them too! "I don't mean I'm not going to do it at all! I just thought you wouldn't want me to show you moves if Buzzardkit doesn't want me to do it." It is comical, how quick they jump to defend themself. Being disliked by warriors their age is one thing... but if they have the chance to do so, they would like to remedy it at the kitten stage.
