Beetlepaw was sad because he had been forced to go on a hunt patrol today unable to escape from his evil mentor this time around. All they had been doing was scolding him over and over again. It had made him even more sad until he finally got some space after his mentor had disappeared off momently to hunt down something. Left stood Beetlepaw alone even if the rest of the patrol not was far away. He still hated it though. To be here. After the kit had wipped away a tear from the eye the apprentice started to walk around with anxious steps feeling like he was being watched even from the trees. His ears was pinned back, tail inbetween his legs as he moved forward in a crouched position. That was until that stupid nose of his catch up on a scent. It smelled like food. Beetlepaw decided to investigate and to his suprise found a dead mouse on the cold ground. Cause unkown for its dead but it was cold so it had probably been dead for a while. The sad boy's face actually shined up thinking he was so lucky to have found food out here. Maybe even Darkclaw would have something nice to say for once!.

Beetlepaw picked the mouse up by the scruff and started to make his way back to where the patrol was suppose to regroup but on his way back three apprentices showed up in his path. " Beetlepaw, wow!. Have you caught that mouse?" One of them asked. Corvidpaw. The kit froze up panic kicking his guts as he realized someone was actually talking to him, to him!. Beetlepaw was so paralyzed with anxiety that he couldn't even come up with something to say. His head was spinning round and round so all he ended up doing was giving a nod of his head, still with the mouse in his mouth. " That's so impressive Beetlepaw!. I always knew you would catch something one day. " The praise just keept on coming from the black and white spotted tom, and Beetlepaw didn't know what to do with himself. This sort of attention he was not used to...good with. So he just stared like a terrified rabbit, not even blinking.

Corvidpaw come closer to hover down the much smaller apprentice which in turn made Beetlepaw only crounch further down to the ground with wide eyes. " Could i ask for a favor though?. You see my mentor has been in such a foul mood with me recently and i really wanna impress them!. Would it be fine for me to take this mouse instead?. I'm sure you will catch a new one in no time!." Beetlepaw was not sure about this request. He looked hesitant, unsure even taking a step back like he was expecting something bad to happen. He did not have good experience with his denmates after all...or cats in general. Only Waspsting had ever been nice to him.

Corvidpaw seemed to notice but instead of turning his face into anger he only smiled. " Come on Bee, we are friends right?." That was the golden key word.Friend. Beetlepaw finally blinked looking shooked. There where friends, him and Corvidpaw?. He had a...friend?. Slowly the kit would drop the mouse on the ground to look up at them. " F-friends, you and me?." Corvidpaw nodded his head. " Of course we are!. And friends help each other out right?. So will you be my friend right now?." Beetlepaw was unable to see the true intentions behind this to realize what exactly was going on here. All he could think about was that he had finally got himself a friend. Him, the stupid and useless Beetlepaw!. His sad gloom eyes shine up, a brief second of light shinning inside of his green eyes.

He would nodd his head severely times before pushing the mouse forward looking at them with a new gained hope. He was not alone anymore!. " Thanks Bee!, you're the greatest pal!." the apprentice would grin through his teeth and put a paw over the smaller apprentices head to give a light ruffle to his head before they turned around now with the mouse in his mouth to run back to the other two, and together they would giggle and snicker over something that Beetlepaw was unable to hear.

Beetlepaw stood back with the closed to a smile he had ever mastered up since his brothers passing.

Now being on a bit better mood then from before Beetlepaw returned back to the group and spoted Corvidpaw presenting the mouse to his mentor which earned him that praise he had wanted. Beetlepaw would give the smallest of a smile, thinking he had done something good for his friend. That smile quickly faded away when he was forced to face his own mentor who looked at them with fury when seeing he had come back with nothing. " Again?!. You're hopeless!" Darkclaw growled before turning their back on them to walk off somewhere else not wanting to deal with their apprentice right now.

Beetlepaw had crouched down at bit when he got scolded but after she had walked away his gaze found his paws but for once he didn't care that he had got scolded. Today was a good day because he had got himself a friend.

Hunting would be putting what Loam does kindly. That word implies a lot of things: scenting, tracking, stalking, which are all things that Loam excels at, and then the killing part, which has proven to be insofar something beyond Loam's abilities. Her mentor would remind her of her weak jaw — a theory he came up with that Loam goes along with because she doesn't have a better explanation — and he would insist she work up that strength before she tries barreling through the marsh.

He is probably right, but sometimes Loam wants to try barreling through the marsh. Beats trying to touch her nose with her tongue, or whatever else inane exercises her mentor thinks up for her.

But then she sees an exchange of prey between two other apprentices that ends in one being scolded and the other praised — and why hadn't Loam thought of that?

"Mentors," Loam says by way of greeting, plopping herself at Beetlepaw's side, "Am I-eee-uh right?"

Her eyes blink rapidly as she speaks, an action that goes completely unnoticed by Loam. She's too focused — someone's day to ruin. "W-wuh-wish 'eh could be uh-uh-as smart as that — th-th-uh-that Corvidpaw." Better Beetlepaw learns now than later, Loam tells herself, "Say, did heh-he t-tuh-talk t-tuh-to you before? Don't yuh-you give your cuh-catch t-tuh-to anyone who pays y-youuu-you a compli-pli-pliment?"

Dogfur had no apprentice of their own. They did not think that they would be given one soon. He thought it was a shame—having an apprentice seemed like fun. He often watched how the other mentors treated their apprentices. And ShadowClan had quite the grisly mentors indeed! He watched without emotion when Lilacpaw's died, and now he watched without emotion as Beetlepaw's scolded him.

The tortoiseshell turned his head to an awkward angle to watch the other warrior stalk off, and he looked back at Beetlepaw who was being approached by Loam. A little bit of eavesdropping made him aware of the situation. His ear flicking and twitching erratically, Dogfur got up and approached the two with his head lowered below their bony shoulders.

"Don't do it again, Beetlepaw." Dogfur's voice is unnaturally serious, his pallid eyes gaining some light to them. "Don't do it, or I'll report it to Chilledgaze." He says Chilledgaze because he has little faith in Pitchstar. "Why, I just heard them punishing an apprentice earlier for doing the same thing." He lied.

So I walk alone down the darkest roads

Mentors, she never had good experiences with them when she was an apprentice, her having always left her on her own instead of teaching her and then turning out to be a complete traitor to the whole clan. Her tail swished a bit as she watched the entire interaction. She narrowed her eyes slightly, questioning how Darkclaw even allowed an apprentice if they were going to scold their own apprentice so cruelly instead of trying to help them. Loam puts their own inquiries in and Dogfur suggests Beetlepaw not to be so kind next time and give away their catch.

Ravenwatcher did not look forward to teaching an apprentice or becoming a mentor, it seemed like too much work, and she let a soft sigh out before coming to stand near Beetlepaw. "If...uh you ever need help, I can perhaps give you some tips" she offered monotonously before looking at Dogfur, "maybe even Dogfur could help you out" she prompted, not wanting the apprentice to always come to her about stuff like this.
