pafp these wings will perish 〰 squirrel hunt!

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 〰 "Come on then, we haven't got all day," they chirp, giving their den-mate the gentlest nudge they can manage while simultaneously rushing to get out of camp. They feel a bit like one of those dogs they see running around Twoleg back yards, chasing chickens to try to keep them in line or something... But instead, it's their clan-mates, their peers, that need herding into adventure and fun and the last licks of their lack of responsibility as apprentices. Besides.. they'd rather forget the humiliating taste of defeat by catching something now with more than just two pairs of eyes to witness it.

"Let's take bets on who'll catch the fattest squirrel," they suggest, turning towards Owlpaw with an encouraging grin. "And then we can all bring'em to miss Butterflytuft and her kittens! Fluffykit is just sooooo cute... I'm sure she'd love to have a whole one to herself. Those kittens are growing so fast they'll need all the food they can get!"

They trot a little further ahead with tail held high in thoughtless delight, bouncing their head side to side as if there were a catchy tune stuck somewhere between their ears that only they could hear. Edenpaw's first catch had been a squirrel... maybe StarClan would shed them some good luck so they could show off a little bit more to their friends! "What was your first catch Owlpaw?" They don't think it's easy to get her talking but... they'll give it a try again.

@Owlpaw!

Trying to get Owlpaw involved in anything outside of training, especially group activities, was like trying to push a boulder up a hill. She was aware of that, the fact that she was heavy and unyielding to previous attempts by her peers. The apprentice was grateful that they hadn't given up on her yet despite the gradual slow burn of her becoming social.

She's grateful that Edenpaw was attempting to push that metaphorical boulder up the hill again, there was apprehension still, fear that she would catch nothing and be a laughing stock had originally rooted her paws down. Edenpaw was careful in how they pushed her to do this, their encouragement focused on how it would be great for the camp and for their clan mates rather than focusing it all on Owlpaw.

It worked too, she frowned at Edenpaw but it wasn't anything serious “We shouldn't be betting… But I think you'll catch a fat one” the thought of helping Butterflytuft and her kittens had convinced her to keep pressing onward, her movements were still stiff and her strides were wide, always looking like she was in a hurry to get away from something. That anxious air that she usually carried was dissipating, with that there may have been a minuscule bounce in her walk as she thought about catching squirrels, courtesy of Edenpaw's influence.

What had been her first catch? “It was a mouse, it was… very small and slow. I was horrible with hunting during the first few moons so I was over the moon about it despite how easy it was to catch looking back on it” she laughed at the thought, a part of her always wondered if StarClan had taken pity on her and tried to offer encouragement through that small vessel. “Do you think there will be many squirrels around today?” She couldn't say that she personally takes note of every single prey animal that was around here but who knows, Edenpaw travels through the forest more than her so maybe they'd know.
