( 𖤓 ) there's an abundance of little kids in the nursery now, and frankly, basilkit is over it. yeah, he'd been a little kid once, and had chased his denmates' tails, pestered them with questions, and over all had treated the nursery like his own private kingdom, but seriously, he doubts he's ever been as annoying as these new guys. he supposes it does give him an opportunity to teach them how he sees fit and educate them in the ways of the thunderclan warrior, but it's exhausting to be around them all the time. the boy is ready to transition to the next phase of his life. apprenticehood can't come any sooner. at four moons, basilkit is itching to see the great outdoors, to move his nest to the big-kid's den, to finally sleep a night away from the kicking paws of his littermates. he's an independent boy, dang it!
so, it's not uncommon to see the little cream tabby frequenting the area around the apprentices' den, ambushing one or two of his former denmates to bombard them with questions. he reasons his questions are certainly less annoying than his current denmates' queries, purely because they're about warriorhood. he hungers for any knowledge on the idea of it, and has been perfecting his hunter's crouch for weeks now. today, the sun drifts low in the sky, filtering the air dusky and warm. it's a perfect summer's eve, low voices of cats sharing tongues accompanied by the soft hum of cicadas. basilkit finds himself engrossed in a conversation some cats are having about the most recent meeting. who's gotten an apprentice, who deserves one, who shouldn't be mentoring... all information he might find more interesting had he been slightly older.
he throws his voice into the conversation before he can stop himself, tail sticking straight up in the air. "how does howlingstar decide on mentors?" it's something he's always wondered, because based on what he can see, there are plenty of cats in camp who don't have apprentices. which ones get them? why doesn't everyone have one? what if your mentor is in the nursery? he's pretty sure swiftdawn wouldn't be able to train an apprentice right now. verdant eyes blink up at the older cats as they discuss, waiting for an answer.
