It had been a few sunrises since Roepaw had been named an apprentice, a few days of moving through the territory to go towards borders and simply get used to walking, and Roepaw had been doing better. He no longer lagged behind Beefang as she moved quickly through reeds, instead the young apprentice was able to move alongside her now, growing more used to the territory as the days went by. He wasn't perfect, no, but the fact he had been carefully taken to the border so soon after he'd been made an apprentice by his mother alongside his siblings only made it easier. If Swiftfire had taken them to the border, had met up with Hush, then it meant that it was safer than he originally thought, it meant that he was going to be okay. It meant he had begun to feel more confident, and instead of needing to remind himself to hold his tail high in the air as a true proud RiverClanner would he instead began to do it without thought.

He had until his mentor had decided that with how quickly he was getting used to simply walking that he would be sent ahead alone to the border. She was behind him, watching from afar to come near in case anything were to happen but Beefang had wanted to see how he would handle himself, how he would mark the border if she weren't there. A small assessment of his skills as a new apprentice so that she knew what needed to be worked on, what needed to be hammered into his head so that he could be molded into the perfect RiverClanner. He had been hesitant at first to do so, ears pinned to his head at the thought of moving through the territory by himself, but he did so without asking if she was sure, carefully moving through reeds as he moved towards the border that marked the loner lands with the knowledge that he would be watched, that he would be okay.

When he parted through those final reeds so close to the spot that he had been taken only a few nights prior the familiar chimera pelt of the four-eared tom that he had learned was his father. Relief and fear flood over him as he saw the other, eyes widening as his ears pricked once more, head cocking slightly to the side as he moved forward. "D-dad?" The young feline would murmur out, reaching forward to place his head against the other for just a moment before backing away, realizing what him being at the border with Beefang so near could mean. "Y-you can't be here, sh-she'll find you." And just as the look of warmth and love melted into confusion on Hush's face the reeds behind Roepaw began to rustle.

AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A LEG FOR A LEG. A SHOT IN THE HEART DOESN'T MAKE IT UNBREAK

࿐ ࿔*:・゚ — tw for gore/blood in the 3rd paragraph & so on / permission to powerplay given

Beefang had been trailing behind her apprentice with her molten eye fixed on him and she isn't too afraid of losing him either due to how bright his coat is, she could easily spot him in a heartbeat. The bicolored molly twitching her whiskers as she keeps attentive of where they're approaching, for a heartbeat, she thinks nothing of it until she pauses abruptly seeing a small puddle of water. Her reflection staring back at her and the young warrior can't help but wince as she feels as if Smokestar were meeting her own gaze with his lone amber eye. A few thoughts muddling her mind, providing a distraction, and it makes an opening for the very same rogue that tore her eye out to meet with his child. Her head snaps in the direction where Roepaw had disappeared into some reeds, Beefang standing still in her tracks as the memory of herself clawing the ground and bleeding heavily into the soil plays out throughout her mind. A phantom pain on her left side where an eye used to be causes a growl to slip out from her throat, her blood beginning to boil knowing that Hush was still out there alive.

She draws closer prepared to call to her apprentice and praise him that he had done well today that they would head back to camp now but the soft murmurs cause her large ears to prick forward. Beefang remains still for a few heartbeats pondering over who Roepaw could be talking to and her pelt prickling as she realizes that Swiftfire had her brood with an outsider, she doesn't care at first... It isn't any of her business, after all, that was her initial thought until she caught sight of chocolate and dark fur meshed together through the reeds. Her singular pupil widening only to narrow into a thin line, her ears press flat against her skull as she hears her own apprentice warning Hush that she'll find him. A small part of her wants to break into a fit of laughter as if someone had told her a grand joke but instead she keeps silent and bids her time, the sides of her mouth twitching upwards into a rare grin as she sees Hush's face twist with confusion.

Without another moment of hesitance, she springs forward with claws outstretched and a snarl tears out of her throat as the burly molly slams into Hush's side to throw him off balance. She doesn't allow him to recover either as her paw reaches out to swipe and claw the two sets of ears on his left side to blind him with his own blood, the same trick he had used on her, and her jaws move to lock into his shoulder to throw him onto the ground where she wanted him. A few flashes of this happening to her flickering in her mind and how angry she had been that day, seething that she had fallen victim to this bastard. "Let me return the favor." Beefang rumbles with venom dripping from her jaws as her claws reach forth to tear further into flesh until blood coated her snowy paws, her apprentice completely forgotten as she tore through his father and mauled at him mercilessly like a starving hound.

Her sides are heaving unable to see anything but red, the very same that generously drips from every wound that she had inflicted upon Hush, and the same red that splattered on the white of her fur. She kicks away something small, round and wet away from her only to turn her focus to Roepaw as blood drips from her chest, claws, and chin. His face reminds her of her own when rogues had slipped into camp like snakes only to strike when everyone least expected it, the same horrified look when she watched rogues pile onto Cicadastar and tore in his own flesh and blood... She had been so helpless. Did Roepaw feel the same as her now? She could be different from the rogues... She could let Hush leave and threaten him to never come back or she would finish the job yet... She remembers how she had swore to her father that she would kill him the moment that she found him once again.

For whatever reason, her mind pushes forth the memory of her as a kitten watching as Smokethroat pointed to the vital areas of a squirrel to Cicadakit. How she had watched with big eyes, so curious, and innocent. Her eye focuses onto Roepaw once more seeing herself in him as she continues to stand there unmoving. "Roepaw... Come here. Do you know about the spots you must guard when in battle?" She echoes the same words that had been uttered by Smokestar that day as she coaxed him over with a flick of her tail, she could make this a lesson so that what happened to her would never occur to him. A paw extends forward as she claws down Hush's belly ignoring the shriek he may let out and stares at the red tabby tom in front of her "Here." Her paw travels upwards until it places weight on Hush's jugular and adds on in a softer voice, "And here."

Another memory flickers in her head, the day that her bond with Cicadaflight had grown stronger after finishing off a rogue and its blood spilled on their claws. A bond forged in blood. Her molten honey eye narrowing in on Roepaw once more, a bond could be forged here today. Mentor and apprentice. Beefang steps back as she takes breath and says finally.

"Kill. It. Kill this rogue."

Reactions: CICADASTAR
He had become soft, it was the only explanation for why Hush had stayed near the border when Swiftfire had been stuck within the RiverClan camp while she was pregnant, while she had been nursing the kits that, if the clan were to find out where they actually came from, could be shunned. He had been informed of the way RiverClan treated outsiders, had known due to blood being spilled around him not only when the clans were first beginning to be formed but when he had joined the others in trying to take back what was rightfully theirs. He still had that wish, to take back the territory so that he could have safety within land that was abundant with prey, enough to feed the family he had formed despite never thinking he would have one. It was that feeling of family, of needing to make sure things were fine, that had kept him so close to the border after the initial visit where he met his children.

It had been a joyous occasion for him, so when they had left and had promised to visit once again - though no one quite knew when the next visit would be - he had hung close to the border, ears pricked as he listened for cats to come near with hushed voices as they had few nights ago. When the sound of a singular cat moving through reeds reached his ears he didn't move away, sure that it was either Swiftfire or a cat that he could either run from or kill if it came to it, but when it was Roepaw all by himself he had been hit with surprise. Hush didn't know that apprentices weren't allowed out on their own, simply thought that it was possible that the fire-furred tom had come to the border to seek out his father and had simply been allowed to go. When he was told to go his face melt to confusion and concern before suddenly he was on his side and his face was being torn into.

A mix of pain and surprise left the tom yowling, claws lashing out as he tried to connect with anything he could as Roepaw backed up and out of the way. The anger that fueled Beefang was too much and eventually the rogue was overpowered, tired and bleeding out from wounds that left him blind, left his body stinging with pain. He expected to be spared, for the warrior to prove what he'd always known; that those that lived in the clans were soft from their lives of living together and not having to fend for themselves. His stomach was torn into by surprise and the pained screech left him once more before his son was turned to again and told to kill him. The words had been clear and the look of surprise through the blood on his face even clearer - not only was he going to die here but Hush was going to be killed by his own son.

It was then he'd look to the young tom, hoping that he'd do it. Whether it was because it was seen as a mercy or simply to save himself from the wrath of his mentor Hush only hoped to be put down so that his son could live. He didn't want to die, didn't want it to end this way but if he had to go for the sake of his children then he would do anything to protect them. He only hoped that it would be swift.

AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A LEG FOR A LEG. A SHOT IN THE HEART DOESN'T MAKE IT UNBREAK
jFAjt8v.png

࿐ ࿔*:・゚ — Beefang watches the exchange between father and kit, for a heartbeat, her stomach lurches as a small part of her wants to screech for her mind to be quiet and to absorb everything that's happening in front of her. To soak it up like her fur is lapping up the blood, her lone eye locking onto Roepaw once more and notices the hesitation. Once more, she sees herself in his position but she's draped over the limp body of Cicadastar letting out a painful wail along with the rest of her littermates. Her breath hitches for a second before parting her jaws to speak out once more though her voice is wavering but clears her throat despite how her mouth feels dry "Kill him." The damage is done, Hush is far from repair, and Moonbeam would never help the rogue that had hurt her mate. Her revenge has been paid in full and now, she must teach a valuable lesson to her apprentice that quivers before her.

She thinks of the squirrel once more and its lifeless eyes... How she thought that would've been her had she chose to be weak and let herself get shoved around by rogues, time after time again. It could be him if I don't prevent it. Beefang thinks silently to herself already knowing that Hush would bleed out from his wounds or die of infection, if anything, Roepaw's being merciful and putting his own father out of his misery. The black amoke tries to ignore the way that her fangs ache how they want to sink into the flesh of Hush to selfishly end him herself and the thought alone is nauseating. A quick shake of her helm as she uses a bloodied paw to force Hush's head down onto the ground, a forceful slam, and her claws dig into his skull.

"Roepaw." She repeats with a click of her tense jaws still continuing to watch him carefully with her lone eye, "Now." Or I'll do it myself. She refrains from adding on as her jaw clenched.

tw for gore in the last paragraph

It feels like everything happens quickly but at the same time he sees everything in slow motion. In one instance he's urging his father to move and get out before Beefang catches him and in the next moment he's watching as the warrior barrels down his father and begins hacking at his face. Flashes of claws and fangs bear down on him while anger and pain break through the air, Hush tries to slice through the air to get her off to be able to run free as Roepaw backs away, shrinking down by the reeds as his eyes widen in fear - not only for his father but for the fury Beefang showed in this moment. All he can think is that if this is how he was meant to deal with trespassers he could only hope that he'd never come across one with a patrol when he's older. He can taste bile as it built up in his throat before the noises die down and his name is being called.

Ringing. All he can hear is the ringing in his ears and the muffled sound of his name as Beefang asks - no, commands - him to come to her. He cannot force his fur to lie flat, he cannot calm the shaking in his limbs as he obeys the orders of what he now knew to be the scariest cat in the clan. She asks her question and he cannot force words out, tongue glued to the roof of his mouth as he tries his best to stay here in the moment, stay listening and awake so that he, too, would not have the chance to be left at the border, so he simply shakes his head. No, he does not know the information as it was never something that had been taught to him before, something that a kit didn't need to know but an apprentice would - a warrior would. He watches as claws rake at his father's stomach, the pained screech that erupted from the rogue's throat drowned out by Roepaw's own heartbeat and his own breathing.

The stomach and the throat, the stomach and the throat, it's on repeat in his mind as Beefang pauses to think before she speaks once more and the ringing stops immediately, he feels his stomach drop. "Wh-what?" It's spoken out, broken as tears well within his eyes and he stares at his father, stares just as he stares back before the silence is broken once more and Beefang says the orders once more and a small whine leaves the boy's throat before his name is said, tense and filled with an order. Now.

Paws move on their own, brain circling the need for it to be over, for Hush to go without malice but with what love the boy had grown to care for the other in the few moments he'd known him. A kind cat, it was how the boy knew his father, kind and full of love, and so as the lesson he'd just been taught clicks into place Roepaw's feet stop beside his father's head and he reaches down, a shutter of a breath wracking through his body before a soft ""I'm sorry." quickly leaves the apprentice's lips for just Hush to hear before the same maw that spoke these words into the universe bore down on Hush's throat and as quick as he could he ripped his head back so that the second vital part of a cat's body they needed to protect in order to not die was removed from the cat before him, and as quick as it had begun Roepaw was sobbing, tears running down his now blood-stained face before he moved away and pushed through the reeds the duo had come through originally before, waiting just on the other side.

Hush was dead, his father was dead, and Roepaw didn't know how he was supposed to tell his mother.
