Scorchedkit bounds into the nursery with a bright grin plastered across her face. Her thick black tail waves behind her like a banner as he maw parts to gather her mother's attention. "Mama!" By the time Flamewhisker turns to acknowledge her daughter, the tortie is already standing before her. Stretching up on her toes she sought to butt her head against the queen's with a thunderous purr. "The other kits and I overheard some warriors talking about the second part of their name and its meaning." She exclaimed, clearly astonished over the newfound information. She never knew names held specific meanings. All this time she assumed cats were named after what sounded nice or cool.

Stepping closer the dark kitten allowed her flank to brush her mother's before settling beside her. "Does my name mean something special?" She inquired, leaning into plush ginger fur. From what she understood scorched must have been an uncommon name. After all, no one else in the clan had her name or anything close to it. That must have made her name extra special if anything. ⁺˚⋆。°✩₊ A pile of moss sat at the side of her nest as she worked on cleaning it out. Keeping a nest clean with two kits had been difficult the first time, with five it had seemed utterly impossible...but now that she had been doing it for several moons now it didn't seem quite as daunting. A pile of clean off was across from the used pile, and beside it was all the items her kits had collected over time. In the pile was various feathers that Falconheart had given them, flowers from another warrior, and one of them had found an odd shaped rock that they were keeping for the time being. She had assumed the kits would be out of the den for awhile, so when Scorchedkit came bounding in, her eyes widened slightly in surprise. The queen took a step forward, leaning her muzzle down so her daughter could reach her to head bump her. "Hello sweetie." she purred, attempting to swipe her tongue between her kit's ears. Scorchedkit continued, claiming that she overheard some warriors discussing the meanings of their names. "Does my name mean something special?" Something unreadable flashed in her eyes, and she lowered herself into a sitting position.

Scorchedkit leaned against her, and she would flick her large tail to curl around her kit. She had wondered when this day would come...Falconheart and Stormfeather had been younger when they had asked about their names. Her muzzle lifted upwards for a moment, glancing at the ceiling of the den, something she undeniably did often. "Well...when your father, Flycatcher, and I were talking about names before you were born...He really wanted to name a kit Firekit...if one looked like me." The last few words came out strained, but she tried to swallow back the lump that caused the tension. "When you were born, the flecks of red in your pelt reminded me of embers...so I named you after your father's wish."

Scorchedkit watched as Flamewhisker's gaze rose to skim the ceiling, possibly seeking to gaze beyond the leafy interior and into the heart of Starclan itself. Following her mother's line of sight, the little molly mirrored her movements, allowing her oddball gaze to peer past viridian foliage. A momentary veil of silence blankets them both, but she remains patient, waiting for her mother to continue. When she finally does Scorchedkit's eyes widen slightly. While she might not have been named after him, it was a gift bestowed to commemorate one of his final wishes. "Oh." She voiced softly, allowing the word to drift into silence. The lofty weight of her name grew heavier now as that realization settled in.

Bittersweet conversation and bright expectations were interwoven within her very namesake. It was more special than she could have imagined. Turning her attention back to the orange queen she spoke up again. "Then I will wear it well and make him proud." She murmured with a small smile that wavered on the cusp of something unreadable. Pressing closer against Flamewhisker's side, Scorchedkit studied her paws. Her brow pinched as she finally worked up the courage to ask something she'd been meaning to for a long time. "...What did Papa look like?" She whispered in a tone barely audible. Seeing some of her den mates parading around with their fathers sparked a sense of jealousy within her. But if she had an image to go by then she'd dream of moments when she wished could have met him. Or spend time imagining what could have been.

⁺˚⋆。°✩₊ There were reasonings tying each of their kit's names to their fallen father, except for Sunkit. Mothkit for his sister, Scorchedkit for his request, Squirrelkit for his love for trees. Perhaps she should have named Sunkit Firekit instead, but when he had been brought into the world, she had immediately thought of her friend, the very cat who gave his life for all of those in the nursery. Even though it had been an unpopular decision, she did not care even now. Thinking about it now only solidified her decision...if Flycatcher were here, he would approve and that was all that mattered to her.

She let out a soft purr as Scorchedkit pressed closer to her side, vowing to make her father proud. "Your father will always be proud of you." Her words were strained, but genuine. The edges of her eyes grew wet with held back tears, but she blinked them away. "He loved you all so much..." There was more she wished to say, she wanted to continue...but she couldn't. She could imagine him sitting here in front of them now, his eyes gleaming with the very love they had shone when she told them they would be parents again. The love they held when he talked about taking them to the Great Sycamore to learn to climb. Promises that would now go unfulfilled, all because of rogues. Anger started to boil inside her, envisioning his shredded body being brought back into the camp...

...What did Papa look like?

The question almost went unheard by how quiet she had asked. Flamewhisker blinked, the anger quickly dissipating as she lowered her gaze to meet her daughter's. Even though it had been moons since she had helped lay her mate to rest, she could remember him like she had only saw him yesterday. "Well.." she began, taking in a slow breath. "You know the grey on your sister, Squirrelkit's pelt? His fur was solid grey. He had kind green eyes like you, and he had a white locket on his chest...similar to your's." Her eyes swelled again, but this time she let a few tears fall before she caught herself. "He was a little shorter than I am, and built for speed. Your brother, Falconheart...I see your father in him more and more each day."

A few more seconds ticked by and Scorchedkit began to wonder if Flamewhisker heard her soft inquiry. Her mouth parted as if to speak, pondering the decision to ask again, albeit a little louder. However, it closed abruptly as she suffered from a change of heart. Perhaps it wouldn't be best to ask. Dredging up the past and making her mother relive fond memories could do more harm than good, and they wouldn't bring Flycatcher back. But the ginger queen faces her and begins after a slow breath.

Her words bring life and color to the black silhouette in her mind. A strong grey tabby with kind eyes fills the void as Scorchedkit's eyes close to piece the description together. A splash of white thuds against his chest and his statures shortens just a hair beneath Flamewhiskers own. A dashing grin, bright and pearly, ties it all together as he stands within her mind's eye proud and loving. "I can see him..." She purred softly, eyes slowly opening as the image began to fade and a bittersweet smile pulled at her lips.

Looking upon Flamewhisker's face and seeing the fine glistening of tears, Scorchedkit reached up to dry one of her eyes. "Thank you mama..." She murmured as moisture threatened to gather in her own eyes. It couldn't have been easy to talk about the loss of her father. But now her mother had provided her with a priceless gift. She might not have looked like him, but she carried parts of him in her and that was good enough.
