camp Through any open door (Patrol assignments)

The morning had dawned bright and hot: not a single cloud disturbed the ocean of blue over the flower-studded moorland, and Badgermoon had risen early, his spirits uplifted by the fine weather. His paws tingled with pent-up energy and with a few bounds he made his way to the base of the Tallrock, yellow eyes flicking across the hollow which made up WindClan's heart. All around, cats were rousing themselves from sleep, grooming their coats in preparation for the day, greeting friends and rounding up apprentices...the routine was comforting, and he couldn't help a small smile from gracing his muzzle as he called out. "C'mere and get your patrol assignments, everyone - before sunhigh, if you please, thank you..." he waited for a few cats to assemble before him, casting a pointed look at a few cats dragging their feet with early-morning bleariness before continuing. "Bluepool, please take Periwinklepaw, Lemontongue, Runninghare, Silverpaw, Nightingalepaw, Sunstride, and Adderpaw to our border with ThunderClan."

That felt like a good group to him; he felt confident sending a number of apprentices along, if only because ThunderClan and WindClan seemed to have an uneasy but uneventful relationship.
"Snailstride, I'd like you to take Wolfsong, Sunflowerpaw, Mintshade, Azaleapaw, and Gravelsnap to ShadowClan." Badgermoon's face darkened at the thought of their former allies and he added, in a slightly warning tone, "Watch yourselves with those sludge-suckers." it did make him happy to assign a patrol to Snailstride, though: the warrior had proven themselves trustworthy and he wanted to reward that effort. "I'd like Firefang to take Harrierpaw, Tigerfrost, Moorpaw, Heathclaw, and Jaggedoak to patrol the RiverClan border." he flicked his dark tail in irritation at the thought of the river-rats. "I should hope that caution goes without saying for that particular border." he mrowed with a little huff! of amusement. "Don't start anything, either, or I'll toss you in the river myself."

"Weaelclaw, please take Sparkpaw, Sparrowpaw, and Crowpaw to patrol near the Horseplace. I'll be joining you with Snakepaw for that."
Badgermoon had gone to RiverClan last time, as the situation had felt too delicate to leave to anyone else. Now, though, he was comfortable enough to join a different patrol, and he was interested to see what the Twolegs were up to. Hopefully nothing. "Cloudedsky, I'd like you to take Lambcurl, Petalpaw, Scorchstreak, Redrumble, and Whitepaw to assess the integrity of the tunnels. Make sure you check the newly-discovered ones, too. Sootstar, please bring Bluepaw, Cottonpaw, Bunnypounce, Specklehen, and Shadowpaw on a hunting patrol through the tunnels." There, that was just about everything. Badgermoon twitched one white-tipped ear in satisfaction, waiting for any questions before setting off with Weaselclaw.

Bluepool was, admittedly, a little disappointed when she heard that someone was going to horseplace and it wasn't her. While there she could've stopped to grab some wool for her nest, and deliver on that promise she had made to Scorchstreak. Perhaps later she could go and take Periwinklepaw with her. They would have to go at the right time of day, when the twolegs and their dogs were not around. That was the most dangerous part of wool-gettin' after all! She supposes though, a trip to thunderclan could be fun too. She didn't know much about Lemontongue but she did know Sunstride and he was good company, if a little too serious sometimes but he would at least be a cool relief from all the apprentices she was about to be surrounded with. She nods her head in the deputies direction to show she understands her assignment. "We leave at dawn" she informs her assignees and then turns to leave, her half tail swishing as she goes.

The call for patrol assignments brings the calico tunneler striding over, her usual smooth gait broken now by a slight unbalance, an extra heaviness that was certainly not there before. Carrying her first kit, she had not been so round. But her queenhood is undeniable at this point, dappled flanks evidence of much more than just a hefty meal. She is assigned to a patrol checking the integrity of the tunnels, with the patrol leader being Cloudedsky. She’s pleased to see that Sootstar’s eldest is being assigned such a role, and she gets along well with all of her fellow tunnelers anyway.

She nods once, grateful that the tom hasn’t attempted to sideline her. She’ll continue to do her duties for as long as she’s able to fit into the tunnels; it’s a comfort to find that the deputy will not force her to sit in the nursery like a helpless fool, even given his unique situation. Surely, he must at least suspect something by now. She wonders, briefly, whether he’ll bring it up at any point. Until he does, she has no reason to confirm anything with him. So the calico glances around, hoping to catch sight of the younger tunneler who will lead her patrol.

Hearing that not only are they going on a patrol to ShadowClan’s border, but that the patrol lead is Snailstride, is enough to set a scowl flitting across the black and white warrior’s muzzle. They get along with Snailstride just fine, yes, but they aren’t friends. And Mintshade is, to put it lightly, a freak and a half. They wish they had been put on Firefang’s patrol instead; they may still feel that swirling anxiety in their gut when they think of the river territory, but at least they would be patrolling with their friend.

But alas, Gravelsnap resigns themself to a horrible patrol along the horrible border of a horrible clan. They don’t wait another moment before seeking out the other cats on their patrol. "Snailstride…" the mutter to themself, hazel eyes scanning the gathered cats for a familiar blue-striped pelt.

Weaselclaw draws close to sit attentively as the WindClan deputy doles out patrol assignments. He's surprised to hear Badgermoon gives Snailstride the ShadowClan patrol; his gaze wanders to where the spotted gray feline sits. It's a lot of trust, especially with the tension between the two Clans.

Then again, the tabby reflects, perhaps that's why. Snailstride surely isn't likely to instigate any fights.

He directs his attention back to Badgermoon when he hears his name. He dips his head, surprised but pleased the deputy is allowing him to lead a patrol instead of taking the lead himself. "Sure. I'll make sure everyone is prepared."

If peri is being honest, he's more than a bit disappointed - both snailstride and gravelsnap are on the patrol to shadowclan while he... is not. Thunderclan is certainly the best of the options however - neutral to them now, and not yet antagonistic as far back as he can recall. Not the worst decision on earth he supposes. He gives a short nod when bluepool speaks, but otherwise cannot help but let his eyes linger on his friends. Well at least Snail is finally getting his chance to shine! The thought cheers him up a bit, and he wanders away in better spirits. Maybe he'll finally take a long-needed nap - if bluepool doesn't assign him anything else.

Sitting down and listening to the patrol announcements, Snailstride's whole body froze as Badgermoon spoke his name. "Huh? Me?" They swore the eyes on them were suspicious, nothing could compare to the surprise and doubt that pooled in the tabby the moment they heard such news though. Snailstride looked to Badgermoon for answers they weren't receiving by looking inwards. No explanation, only to be careful around the 'sludge-suckers' (he didn't need to be told twice). Confusing ratted Snailstride's head to the point where he had to tilt it, not quite smiling, not quite frowning either. Briefly, Periwinklepaw caught their eye, springing away like a newleaf fawn. 'Stars... I think you're happier for me than I am'. They inhaled and nodded sharply. No shenanigans on this patrol, not when a Lead Warrior's eyes would be on him - he didn't doubt Wolfsong's experience would reach Sootstar's ears one way or another. "Okie dokie. We'll go just before sunhigh, hopefully, ShadowClan'll be sluggish around then and we don't have to worry about any nasty surprises!" Snailstride would also be sluggish around then, they realised just moments are confirming the time. They cringed a little bit before turning away with their tail high, lumbering off to go prepare themselves for their first ever time leading a patrol.

Life doesn't discriminate
Heeding Badgermoon's call, Adderpaw makes his way closer to where everyone began to gather. He stands beside Weaselclaw briefly, silently disappointed that his father had not been assigned to accompany him to thunderclan's border. "Be careful out there." He calls over his shoulder, although he hardly believed the lead warrior needed the reminder. The tabby did not come to hold the title he has by being exclusively reckless. Turning to depart, he trots off and meets up with Bluepool and the rest of his assigned patrol. As she informs the group of their departure time he nods firmly, curious as to what the interaction will bring.
Between the sinners and the saints

Though Sunstride had thought himself prepared for anything, settled between his apprentice and his fellow members of Sootstar's council, he too must admit to a certain surprise at Snailstride's name. To think that such a newly named warrior should be made to lead a patrol after all that had happened...he wished nothing more than to trust Tigerfrost's former apprentice, and yet–

And yet, when he looks at him, he can see nothing but the apprentice he had briefly known. It was a simpler time then. He nearly wishes he could return. It takes a great deal of effort not to sigh deeply as the thought swells over him; instead, he looks at Snailstride with quiet concern and a tinge of wariness before returning his mind to the summons of others. It grates subtly against his pride, that he should not lead a patrol of his own. Though Bluepool is a fine enough warrior, and now a part of Sootstar's council, he could not help but find it nearly insulting to follow another. Such things were difficult to admit, and so he did not. Knowing that it was below him to feel such a way did not help the matter any. Better not to pass this part of him onto his apprentice.

"Take the time to ready yourself before this patrol. We will have little time for rest, and you should ensure your limbs have properly awoken by the time that we depart," he murmurs to @Adderpaw with his head ducked low.

  • ooc: ic opinions ofc, sun's pride is getting the better of him
  • SUNSTRIDE. named for his coloration and his bold chasing of fate.
—— cis male, he - him. thirty-eight moons old. lead warrior of windclan + former rogue.
—— gay, but somewhat closeted. will not be open about his interests.  single, will be so.
—— seems comparatively stranger than who he was some moons ago, serious and cool.

sunstride is broad and bold– a creature standing above most of windclan, though not a beast beyond its borders, with fur that flames red at its base and deepens to a burnt amber with every whorl and stripe. his eyes, in comparison, are a pale summer's blue, still as bold as the rest of him.
  • "speech"

( ) She hears the coming call of Badgermoon, his large frame noticeable amongst that of the others. Cloudedsky glides over to the gathering of warrior's, blue ears pulled forward to better hear for her name. She takes note mentally of who was going where, absent-mindedly locking it within her mind in case of anything. One couldn't be too careful lately, especially with rising tensions between WindClan with River and Shadow. As if they'd be met with nothing but failure as always. Her mother drew scars upon the ShadowClan deputy, having him turn tail like the coward he truly was. RiverClan would also fall, once again, to them as well.
The young tunneler nearly misses when her name is called out, the baritone of Badgermoon's voice reeling her back to reality. Cloudedsky, I'd like you to take Lambcurl, Petalpaw, Scorchstreak, Redrumble, and Whitepaw to assess the integrity of the tunnels. Make sure you check the newly-discovered ones, too. Pink lips couldn't help but be pulled back into a smile, excitement bursting within molten irises as she's called to not only be within a patrol—but to lead it. Her spine straightens and her chest puffs out in a prideful manner, nodding to the deputy with certain vigor. Scorchstreak would usually be one to lead a patrol, but with her pregnancy, it's up to her now. Sunburst eyes find the rounded tortoiseshell in the midst, casting her a smile before walking towards her. Her mother is also called after her, leading a hunting patrol and she searches for the blue smoke to meet her eye. Would she be proud of her as well? She had to be, right? Her first born daughter was leading a patrol! Realizing she couldn't find the WindClan leader, she looks back to Scorchstreak and dips her head. "I'll go gather the rest and meet you back at the entrance, okay?"

( You should see me in a crown ; I'm gonna run this nothing town )
