It is far from the first time Fleabounce has been asked what her mind has dubbed the question. Sometimes it is cruelly, other times curiously—but never is it dull. She had been grooming, one leg suspended, the fur of her heel pushed opposite to how it had grown, when it had been asked. Halfpaw, for her part, is impossibly young. Her curiosity would be forgiven, even if she wasn't. Fleabounce settles her leg down slowly—the cold has a way of aching her back, and even the smallest of movements could cause it to twinge painfully—and smiles.
"It isn't that exciting," Fleabounce starts, her monotone voice carrying, if not the sound of her smile, then the implications of it. Her tail really wasn't an exciting thing; she had less of a tail than the average cat but more of a tail than both her mother and her dear sister, "It was a few seasons ago when it happened. Someone startled me and my tail fell off, as a lizard's does when under the same duress." There isn't a hint of irony in her expression. She twists as if to touch her tail and then, thinking better of it, resettles, "These things happen as you age."
The something in her voice shifts. Just as carefully plucked and bell-like, but it's a wink now. A secret or a game—the subtle sign that Halfpaw can be in on it too, if she wished.
