camp TOO MUCH LABOUR | moving into nursery

Half a moon. That was the time Ferndance had been given before she would give birth, but it was only being looked over for patrols that made the ticked tabby decide it was time to settle down. Her abdomen was swollen, she moved through camp as best she could, large wads of bedding being dragged toward the quiet nursery. Not safe. She dropped the nesting material, dried moss, just outside the thorn bush that hid their nursery, her tail lashing behind her. Flattened ears did their best to scan for sounds within, but heard nothing but the occasional rustle of a leaf as it was battered by a stream of wind. Claws unsheathed, defensively, before Ferndance began dragging the moss into the temporary den with large paw swipes. The nursery needs to be protected from the cats who protect the nursery. Giving birth in the Warrior's Den felt safer, Stars, giving birth outside the camp felt safer, she was certain she would rather face the horrors of the wild than try to decipher who had her kitten's best interests among her allies. So many had proven themselves untrustworthy and with two recent exiles on the she-cat's mind, it was difficult. She hated feeling as vulnerable as she did now.

Dumping the moss at the entrance, Ferndance chirped and ran across the camp, diving back into the Warrior's Den and emerging a good while later with a matted clump of fur and reeds. She pulled and pulled until she was halfway across her home with it, taking a deep breath as she assessed the throne and all the contents she'd placed upon it. Feathers pierced the knots, pebbles sat on top as if it were a hammock sinking beneath their weight, shiny trinkets from who knows where and leaves slept upon so frequently that their shapes had been shattered into unrecognisable pieces. Any who'd had the unfortunate privilege of seeing the other's nest in the Warrior Den knew that this was only a small part of a collection that had transcended her own living space and infiltrated her friends', and there would be much more to go before Ferndance was complete with her move.

DON'T YOU GIVE ME UP, PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP

the leader would not blame ferndance for being a little uneasy at the idea of being in the nursery, especially with it being so easily infiltrated by a spy to windclan's leader. they can't say they exactly felt safe either, a life being ripped from them inside of their own den by a lead warrior they'd appointed themself. they wonder, in the back of their mind, if some cats believe it was deserved. if this was some sort of karma for how it all went down in the first place. they wouldn't even be upset at such words because they believe it.

"...how are you doing?"

they asked her before looking at the things she's collected for her nest.

"looks... comfy."

stars, why was this so awkward? they used to be good enough friends until they'd demoted her. they'd barely even looked in her direction. they were sorry, sure, but this was not how they imagined it would be. they're not mad that she may be upset they're just... they have a lot on their mind anyways, and with a shake of their head they simply twitch their tail gently. hopefully ferndance didn't hate them.

Scalejaw let a ragged breath out as she stepped into camp, only to watch Ferndance dance across camp into the warrior's den. Her eyes blinked, staggered for a moment, before she shifted to stand near as Ferndance dragged her nest out into the open. Her mouth opened to speak to the warrior- now queen?- in reference to something before Chilledstar was speaking first upon their approach. A tiny chuckle left her mouth- shoulder bumping the other gently before her vision turned towards Ferndance.

"You shouldn't be overworking yourself." She stated to the other warrior, her tail twitching. "Do you want help?" Scalejaw questioned. She had been a queen herself once- Stars knew that Scalejaw had been hard to keep in one spot, too, but Ferndance was getting awful close to that point.

☾. . ° ✦ At least there was something positive shining through all of the recent negative; Ferndance's swollen belly was promise enough of a new set of paws that'd strengthen their numbers... although Mirepurr couldn't fault the newly-made queen for looking so on edge. It was like she ran from the nursery and what it all meant.

Will it be like this from now on? Mirepurr thought sadly. Feeling suspicious and second-guessing ourselves and one another?

The veil of gloom over ShadowClan's camp couldn't stay- not if they could help it.

"Right!" they echoed Scalejaw's offer, "we can collect all the little things you want for your nest and bring it here, and then all you have to do is decorate. Much comfier!"

This place were enough crowded as it was and now another queen would join them in here. Lividkit couldn't wait for the day he become an apprentice so he finally could leave this den. Until then he had to endure it just a bit longer. " It can become a bit noisy in here sometimes. You will get used to it over time i think." It was rare for Lividkit to come forth to willingly particate in a conversation held between his clanmates. It was better to not interfere in other cats business. With the current circumstances going on though Lividkit had noticed the uneasiness hanging in the air.

" I'm gonna become an apprentice soon so i cannot join you for long in here however i will always be ready to assist you with anything you need. One of many duties an apprentice have is to make sure the queens in this clan is provided with everything they need." He stared right at Ferndance after having made his way past the others who where in there. He held his head a bit taller than usual. With their very own leader's present in this den right now he wished nothing but to impress, to make a good first impression to show right here and then what a dedicated apprentice he was planning to be, how he was not afried of hardwork. Getting on their leaders good side was the first step to reach his goal to one day become a fearless and devoted warrior. He would become the greatest warrior any of the clans ever had seen. He would become a proper warrior that this clan always could trust and relay on which was something this clan seemed to be lacking today.

In the wake of Granitepelts revealed betrayal Halfkit finds herself often wishing she had never left WindClan. Sure, it was nice to see her ShadowClan friends again, her family, to meet her father, but the air here is thick with a heavy gloom that seems to settle like a fog over their heads. She can feel it even here in the nursery as a cat who she is unfamiliar with moves in, as glances of icy judgement are sent in her direction. Everyone was so mad at each other all the time and she wonders what Ferndance had done to earn her clans ire.

"Your nest looks funny" she observes from where she perches nearby, her mismatched eyes focusing in on a pebble that sticks out from the moss. There are all sorts of things in this new cats nest, things that Halfkit finds an interest in. That feather over there looked like it could be a worthy play thing, that feather too. Lividkit was talking now and Halfkit hates when he does. He always acted like he was so much better than everyone else with his big fancy words. "Apprentices also know when to be quiet!" she says with a giggle before turning back to Ferndance. Chilledstar was here, asking her how she was doing and Scalejaw was here warning her not to overwork herself. BORING! Adults had no idea how to talk sometimes she thinks and Lividkit talks just like them. It makes her want to fall right asleep.

Then finally, Mirepurr says something that sparks her interest. She suggests they go get more junk to fill the queens nest with and Halfkit cannot help the snort of laughter that escapes her nostrils. "Any more of this stuff and soon she wont have a nest to sleep in!" she says, reaching forward with a paw to swat at a feather that had gotten loose when the thing was being dragged over here.

You've wasted your life, but thanks for applying

Another would soon join the nursery, a queen expecting and bringing more kits into the clan. Yellow gaze shifting onto Ferndance and the others who followed, Chilledstar expressed concern and had been making sure that the newly made queen was alright while Scalejaw and Mirepur offer to help her. Lividkit expressed that they'll help keep the queen company until they were wn apprentice and Halfkit made comments about the nest and telling Lividkit that apprentices knew when to be quiet.

A frown crossed the kit's face, the nursery was already crowded as is, and they really did not need all this...stuff here, not to mentioj more noisey kits that would be crying for food or getting under the older kit's paws. "whatever it is, its taking a lost a space up" she remarked coolly before slipping to join the others while looking at the mess of a thing that Ferndance considered a nest. How exactly did one slept in such things. But, she guess one would need a lot of room when they had a belly as swollen as the newly aquainted queen. "When will the things be here?" she grumbled, mostly to herself of course, she just did not want to deal with anymore kits roaming about and was hoping they'd arrive after her departure of the nursery.
