pafp TURN INTO SEEDS – KIT Q&A

──ᨒ↟↟ᨒ↟ᨒ↟↟ᨒ── The nursery is one of Wolfsong's most important stops on his rounds through camp, given the delicate and precious creatures inside— namely the kits, of course. He would not describe a WindClan queen as delicate by any measure of the word, especially not when he has such personal experience with bearing and delivering little ones into the world. It may be taken for granted by some, but never by Wolfsong, and so he likes to ensure that all the nursery's inhabitants are coming along well, keenly aware that they will one day be warriors and Wolfsong old.

In his checkup, he notices that some of the kits seem quite interested in him. He's reminded of Sunflowermask when they were small, and the thought is a twisting claw in his gut, winding him briefly. Wolfsong licks his lips and draws in a deep breath. Now is not the time to mourn, so he smiles at the curious kittens and beckons them closer with a gesturing tail. "You both look like you've a swarm of bees in your mouths you need to set free," he says, his sole eye appraising Vulturekit and Weepingkit warmly. "What can this medicine cat do for you?"

//please wait for @Vulturekit. and @weepingkit !

WOLFSONG of WINDCLAN FORMER ROGUE TURNED MEDICINE CAT. 46 MOONS, HE/HIM, NPC X NPC. MATES WITH SUNSTAR (07/05/2023). BIOGRAPHY, PINTEREST, & PLAYLIST.
  • ★★★☆☆ WOUNDS: You're (mostly) in safe paws. You'll know if he's less experienced if he asks for your permission to try a treatment. No wound can scare him away from knowledge.
★★★☆☆ INFECTION: He can prevent most infections. If you feel feverish, let him know; he'll hum thoughtfully over herbs and sniff your wound before saying, "With your blessing..."
  • ★☆☆☆☆ ACHES & PAINS: If you complain to him of pain, he'll ask where. If it's a headache, you'll likely feel a bit better. For anything else, "Try this, if you'd like, and tell me how you feel."
★☆☆☆☆ BROKEN BONES: At best. he can ask you to remain lying down in the den. He may try to distract you with conversation while he considers what herb to feed you.
  • ★★★★★ TRAVELING HERBS: Going somewhere? No worries; Wolfsong knows just what you need to stay hale and healthy during your journey. The rest is up to you.
★★★☆☆ KITTING: Thanks to Starlingheart and his own pregnancy, he's better prepared for the arrival of kits, but any complications will need a little faith and a lot of luck.
  • ★☆☆☆☆ POISONS: It's best if you avoid eating anything unfamiliar to you— it's probably just as unfamiliar to Wolfsong. The best he can do is offer you yarrow and sit with you.
★★☆☆☆ ILLNESS: If it's white or greencough, you'll likely recover. Otherwise, prepare for odd concoctions and the usual request that you consent to a little trial-and-error.

It takes some time for Weepingkit to adjust to the life of a Clan cat. There are the simplest of roles that can be explained with little effort: the kittens, the apprentices, and the warriors who teach them. But then.. there is the leader, a cat with nine lives (she can hardly believe it; she thinks she's being pranked), and their second-in-command.. and just alongside them in their little council, the medicine cats.

Weepingkit has watched them from afar as they go about their duties within camp. She saw Cottonsprig bring in a sick little kitten, and felt a pang of sympathy for the little one - forgetting for a moment that the medicine cats can heal. It is a process that she doesn't quite understand. She doesn't understand how eating leaves or wearing poultices can cure all; her mother, of course, wasn't quite well versed in such things.

But, meek as she was, she hasn't summoned the confidence to approach Wolfsong or Cottonsprig - or anyone, really. Her days are spent brooding, watching from a safe distance, and wishing she had the strength to speak.

As if her prayers were answered.. the older of the two visits the nursery today, and Weepingkit's eyes are round as she watches. From a ways away at first, of course, but gradually creeping closer when she thinks she isn't being seen. Like a little shadow, she soon finds herself in Wolfsong's pawprints, watching him perform his checkups with a keen curiosity. And, it seems she isn't the only one; for the scarred warrior's attention drifts to her, and another kitten alongside her, Vulturekit.

Weepingkit swallows down the jealousy that comes with having to share her space and her questions. She channels all of her attention on Wolfsong, instead. "My momma, um.. she never used herbs.." Weepingkit begins sheepishly, tracing her paw nervously across the ground, fiddling with the sparse blades of grass beneath her. "I just want to know.. how it all works. How do you know which plants do what? Who.. who discovered them?" There must have been a cat once upon a time, as avid a learner as she was, who stumbled upon these remedies. How long did it take to get it all so right?

˖⁺‧₊ ☽◯☾ ₊‧⁺˖ Vulturekit hardly knows more than his adoptive sister, although he joined the clan far earlier. It seems that the medicine cats are removed from all in WindClan's ranks, their practices a secret bordering on magic. It is as fascinating to Vulturekit as it is frustrating.

It is rare that Wolfsong visits. Once, not long ago, Cottonsprig had been a familiar face. She did not have the same mystique as her mentor, in part merely due to being an apprentice. Peppy, kind, chatting away with the queens like she was one of them - they did not view her with the same trepidation. Wolfsong, with his face torn and his voice laced with some impenetrable wisdom, seems like just the cat that would serve as a gaurdian of life and a medium to death. His very visage seems itself sun-dipped and holy, carried with gravitas and grace.

Well, at least he's still less intimidating than his mate.

Vulturekit watches with his tail flicking as Wolfsong tends to the queens, crouched as though the soft nursery-grass will hide him. He creep, slowly, after Weepingkit - but his attempted stealth does little to keep him from Wolfsong's watchful eye.

They startle as they are addressed, straightening up. Waits as Weepingkit asks her share of questions, hesitant but insistent. His ear swivels to hear, mulling the questions over in his mind. "There's been... A lot of medicine cats, I think... I d-d-d - I d-dunno who started it..." The kit mumbles, thinking aloud in response to the other's question, though he was not the intented recipient. "There was one Scorchstreak t-tuhh-told me about..." with my name, who died a grisly death. They swallow the words back thickly, gaze turning distant. Guilty eyes flicker away from Weepingkit, the knowledge sitting heavy in the back of her sibling's mind. She's already so fragile, so scared... They look to Wolfsong, instead.

And their eyes turn wide, owlish as if caught. "Um. I mean -" They have their share of questions, too - and the medicine cat asked after both them. Their tail curls close to their body, ears tilting backwards. "- it must be scary, right?" They blurt. It feels like an odd thing to ask, yet the words of Scorchstreak and Featherspine set their hairs on end. Tempting fate. "With - with all the b-blood... and the sickness, and the - the d-d-danger..." He can't imagine - he'd ran from the carnage of the battlefield. He would not dare get close when death was near.

And yet, looking at Wolfsong... They cannot imagine that kind of fear upon his face. "...Do you ever get scared?" Their voice turns small, entreating.

BUT MAYBE THAT'S A LIE

he doesn't know how to feel about wolfsong. more times than not, he's heard his voice be a lot more... soft than others. it's not like his own where he is soft-spoken due to timid nature– a nature he desperately wants to grow out of– but a softened tone due to patience and dolice nature. still, he's heard him raise it and he hates that. hates the loudness. sunstar is different. sunstar is always loud, and commanding. it's what he's supposed to he as a leader, right? weird. scorchstreak doesn't sound like that to him. maybe something changes when they become leaders but how would he know? he's only ever known sunstar as, well, sunstar. he stands closer to vulturekit, offering a gently tap of his paw to his friend– he can call him his friend, right?– just in greeting before turning his head back to wolfsong. he doesn't understand the questions. why does it matter what a medicine cat does? is this so interesting? he guesses they're important, as all clan members are, but he wants to be like his aunt.

"...v..vullie. can you ask him what's it like to be brave? please?"

his voice is so low, he's almost afraid that no one else would hear it. but he doesn't want to ask anyone else. vulturekit could ask for him... right? he won't be upset if vulturekit says no because it's up to him. he just doesn't wanna talk to anyone else.

──ᨒ↟↟ᨒ↟ᨒ↟↟ᨒ── Medicine certainly seemed an enigmatic practice for Wolfsong before Vulturemask began explaining its systems to him. As a warrior, it was his duty to bear wounds and return them in kind, never to mend or tend; and yet he was curious. He is always curious, quite frankly, a trait that has followed him throughout his life and ultimately led Wolfsong here, dreaming with StarClan and advising his mate. He has made mistakes he will carry with him, but he is grateful for this experience all the same.

Glad, too, that he needn't watch those he cares for suffer, capable of naught but fretting.

Weepingkit references her mother, and in that, he can sympathize with the young kit. At least a smalller Ellisif was not forced to acclimate to a world so different after his parents' deaths, and he was ever so fortunate to have Sunnvar with him. It is not a time for such heavy thoughts, however; she presents him with her wonderings, and he is, as always, happy to indulge the bright young minds around him. "Vulturekit is right. This knowledge was passed onto me, either from the medicine cat before me or a medicine cat from another clan. StarClan's wisdom is great, and we have them to thank for knowing which plants to use." He smiles a little mischievously. "Though a bit of...experimentation can do wonders as well."

The muscles above his eyes raise when the darker of the pair releases his question like a startled frog at the Sunwarmed Pool. And what a question it is, one that quickly spirals into uncomfortable memories for the kit, before reaching its crescendo of the true, final question. He lowers himself down into a crouch to be eye-level with the kits, and especially Vulturekit. "I was a warrior before I was a medicine cat. Sunstar and I come from a faraway place, and it was not easy journeying to WindClan— danger became normal." Wolfsong draws in a deep breath. "But yes, I do get scared, Vulturekit. I fear for the safety of my children, my mate, and my clanmates. If someone says they are never afraid, it is because they are afraid of seeming weak." Despite Splinterkit's soft voice, Wolfsong hears the timid kit all the same. These children have no mercy for their medicine cat, it seems.

He wouldn't have them any other way.

Still, he suspects he may overwhelm Splinterkit if he answers him directly, so he does not hold his stare, instead addressing the small group as a whole. "Being brave is being afraid. Perhaps other cats feel differently, but I am bravest when I worry the most for my family. That includes the three of you, by the way." He smiles, mostly with the crinkling of his sole eye. "I will be brave for you, and I hope you will be brave for me."

Wolfsong answers her question well, but Weepingkit only finds more within it. The other Clans have medicine cats, too? Did they have two like Wolfsong and Cottonsprig? Did they train apprentices, or only grown cats like the golden cat before her was? When did Cottonsprig start?

The biggest one of all, however, comes from StarClan's wisdom. Weepingkit had heard the term before, StarClan, and briefly understood what they were. They were the fallen cats of the past that lived within the stars, passing guidance to those they left behind. But she hadn't understood yet that it could be possible to receive wisdom from them. "StarClan.. do you.. talk to them?" she questions meekly, but with noticeably more bold curiosity this time. She was unsure yet, if she believed the words of her Clanmates yet.. if StarClan was really real.

Another kit joins them soon, but Weepingkit hardly minds their presence, just like he seems to not pay attention to hers. Two kittens both timid, co-existing in a conversation in which they did not feel pressured to speak to each other. It was peaceful.

The next answers are not directed towards her, but Weepingkit listens in regardless. After all, she wants to know too.. what made a cat brave, and if the fear of the world ever went away. Weepingkit carries a heavy burden on her shoulders, that of fear, that a tragedy could happen at any moment and she will be made to bare witness. It is comforting a little, to know that Wolfsong is scared like her when he sees these tragic scenarios all the time.. but a small part of her finds resentment in it, too, that not even he has found a way past it.

The answer to Splinterkit's question eases her worries, though she still has some inward doubts. Could Weepingkit be brave, too, even when she cries so much for her lost parents? Even when she follows her sister around, ever in her shadow? He is not speaking to her directly, but she can't help but quietly reply, in no more than a whisper: "I will try to be brave, too.."
